The '''Open Notebook Science Challenge''' is a [[Crowdsourcingcrowdsourcing]] research project<ref name="ONS Challenge">[http://onschallenge.wikispaces.com/ Open Notebook Science Challenge]</ref> which collects measurements of the non-aqueous solubility of organic compounds and publishes these as [[Openopen Datadata]]; findings are reported in an [[Openopen Notebooknotebook Sciencescience]] manner. Although anyone may contribute research data, the competition is only open to post-secondary students in the USAUS and UK.

The challenge in turn forms part of the UsefulChem project, an ongoing [[Openopen Notebooknotebook Sciencescience]] effort to synthesize and screen potential new anti-malarial drugs.<ref name="UsefulChem">[http://usefulchem.wikispaces.com/ UsefulChem]</ref>. == Prizes ==

To encourage participation, each month an award<ref name="award">[http://www.oru.edu/news/view_news.php?id=1010 A News Story Discussing the Awards]</ref> is given to the student who does, in the opinion of the judges,<ref name="judges">[http://onschallenge.wikispaces.com/judges ONS Challenge judges]</ref>, the best work. The first three winners also received a year's subscription to the journal ''[[Nature (journal)|Nature]]''.
