He found a job with a local newspaper in Leicester and became a reporter, moving on to local radio, regional television, and eventually national television with the [[BBC]], where he became a sports presenter. Icke has published ten books outlining his views, which are a mixture of [[New Age]] philosophy and apocalyptic [[conspiracism]], combined with what many interpret as [[anti-Semitism|anti-Semitic]] views.

I agree, especially since that's what he most typically looks like anyway.

Michael Barkun, in his [[2003]] study of [[conspiracy theory]] [[subculture]], ''A Culture of Conspiracy: Apocalyptic Visions in Contemporary America'', writes that Icke is "the most fluent of conspiracy authors, which gives his writings a clarity rarely found in the genre."

At the heart of Icke's ideas is the belief that the world is being controlled by a secret government. In [[1996]], in his book '' ... and the truth will set you free'', he claimed this government was financed by bankers and businessmen such as the [[Rothschild]]s and [[Rockefeller]]s. According to British journalist Simon Jones, Icke claims that:

Icke cites [[the Holocaust]], [[Oklahoma City bombing]], the bombing of [[Pan Am Flight 103]], the [[Yugoslav wars|war in Bosnia]], and the [[September 11, 2001 attacks]] as examples of events caused by the secret government. Meanwhile, he has said, Jewish bankers are in control of the world's economy, stealing interest from the banks.

==Tenacious D==

The New-Age aspect of Icke's philosophy, writes Jones, argues that people live in a "multi-dimensional consciousness," and should abandon the false existence the world government provides, which will cause the heirarchy to collapse.

This makes no mention of perhaps the single most responsible role for his current stardom, and that is the one of himself in the HBO show "Tenacious D."

In [[1999]], Icke wrote and published ''The Biggest Secret: The Book That Will Change the World'', in which he said the planet was being run by a [[New World Order (conspiracy)|New World Order]] controlled by a race of [[reptilian humanoid]]s called the "Babylonian Brotherhood". He wrote:

According to Icke, the reptiles' "hybrid reptilian-human DNA" allows them to change from reptilian to human form if they consume human blood. He has drawn parallels with the [[1980s]] science-fiction series [[V (television series)|V]], in which the earth is taken over by reptiloid aliens disguised as humans.

The reptilian group involves many prominent people and practically every world leader from Britain's late [[Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon|Queen Mother]] to [[George H.W. Bush]], [[Bill Clinton]], and [[Bob Hope]]. These people are either themselves reptilian, or work for the reptiles as what Icke calls slave-like victims of [[multiple personality disorder]]:

Icke describes "shape-shifting" as "the phenomena in which witnesses have reported seeing people (most often those in positions of power), transform before their eyes, from a human form to a reptilian one and then back again". According to Christine Fitzgerald, a confidante of [[Diana, Princess of Wales]], Diana believed that the British royal family was connected to reptiles and said that they could shape-shift.

Icke's theories have been attacked as [[anti-Semitic]] because his views of a reptilian takeover amid references to international bankers have echoes of conspiracy theories involving [[Jews]].

This seems to have a conflict in POV to me. Not only do I disagree with the statement (School of Rock was definitively Black's rise to being a household name) but it's got definitive POV.

Icke has strongly denied that his reptiles represent Jews. "I am not an anti-Semite!", he told ''The Guardian'', "I have a great respect for the Jewish people." In [[1999]], Icke's books were removed from [[Indigo Books and Music|Indigo]] stores across [[Ontario]], and several venues on his speaking tour were cancelled, after protests from the [[Canadian Jewish Congress]]. The [[University of Toronto]] allowed his planned speech there to go ahead, despite the presence of 70 protesters, including the [[Green Party of Ontario]], outside the Hart House Theatre. Icke received a standing ovation from the audience after speaking for five hours.

In a few of his songs he can be quoted as saying "Dianetics junior much better than krishna...Dianetics Junior much better indeed" (another city hall lyric i believe). Is Jack Black a practioner of Dianetics or Scientology? or are they simply lyrics. A google search had not yielded any results, can anyone clarify and possibly update this in the wiki? == Marijuana ==

In the article it says, "Black supports the legalization of marijuana and referred to those who wished to keep it banned as 'old fucking shrivs' in the Tenacious D song, 'City Hall'." This seems a little slack to me. Although I'm not saying I don't believe that Jack Black supports the legalization of Marijuana, there should be a citation other than the lyrics of a commedy song. In the same song, Black calls for such things as riots to tear down society and for public and private transportation to be replaced by "tube" travelling. However, the article doesn't state these as opinions. If Black supports the legalization of Marijuana, we should have a better source than this.

Nobody else comes close - as I mentioned, look at how few links there are to the "secondary" Jack Blacks. Consider [[John Adams]] (and see [[John Adams (disambiguation)]]). Far more people are named "John Adams" than "Jack Black", yet the fact that one single John Adams is far more popular than the others is why the article is not named "John Adams (former U.S. president)". I'm not sure what the rule of thumb is, but the fact that 90%+ links to "Jack Black" are intended for the actor should mean something. :Right after the barkeep tells Michael "unless you're just here for the Poppins", Jack looks almost directly at the camera. He's wearing a beret, and clean-shaven, but it's him, all right. I don't think it was a credited role, so citing it may be tricky...though it seems a moot point as the trivia section is gone now.
