David Icke (born April 29, 1952) is a former professional football player, reporter, BBC television sports commentator, and British Green Party national spokesperson. Since 1990, he has been what he calls a "full-time investigator into who and what is really controlling the world."

Defamer article
The Green Party distanced itself from him in 1991 after he announced during a television interview that he was a "son of the Godhead." He began to dress only in turquoise and maintained that the world was ruled by a secret group called "The Elite", or "Illuminati," which he linked to The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, an anti-Semitic tract. In 1999, he published a book claiming that the Illuminati consisted of a race of reptiles called the Babylonian Brotherhood, and that some prominent people were in fact lizards, including George Bush, Bill Clinton, the Queen Mother, and Kris Kristofferson.
From the Defamer article:
:Hours of tireless research and a few friendly e-mails from Black’s publicist have disabused us of the notion that any onanistic camera work exists, and that the Wikipedia submitter is having some fun at the actor’s expense. ($9.99? Nothing that good ever happens to us.)
:Yes, our thoughts on the truth-telling skills of celebrity publicists are well documented, but there’s no good reason to be skeptical in this instance. Black doesn’t even have a website (Tenacious D’s notwithstanding), unless he’s moonlighting in Arizona real estate, and the flack notes JB’s been in New Zealand shooting King Kong since August. While we’re pretty sure masturbation is legal in New Zealand, we imagine it would be exceedingly difficult to use one of Peter Jackson’s expensive movie cameras to shoot this kind of DVD bonus feature for the fans.

Another Jack Black
Icke has also claimed that a small group of Jews, particularly the Rothschild family, financed Hitler and supported the Holocaust. These claims have led to his speaking tours attracting the interest of British neo-Nazis, particularly Combat 18, as well as facing opposition from Jewish groups and anti-racism activists. In response to these allegations, Icke has strongly denied that he is an anti-Semite, and has stressed his belief that the Illuminati, which, he says, includes the Rothschild family, are lizards, not Jews.
There's a problem, there are two jack blacks. One that is an actor, and one that wrote the book You Can't Win
:Yes we know, that's why this article is called Jack Black <u>(actor)</u>

Dead Kennedy's
According to Political Research Associates, an American research group that tracks right-wing extremists, Icke's ideas are popular in Canada, where the New Age aspect of his philosophy overshadows his more controversial beliefs. He received a standing ovation after a five-hour speech to students at the University of Toronto in 1999. He is the author of ten books explaining his views.
Jack Black uses almost the same set of facial expressions as lead singer, Jello Biafra, of the Dead Kennedy's. Find some live footage, you'll see what I mean.

LifeReq. and careerImage
He was born in the city of Leicester in the English Midlands, into a working class family and raised on a council estate, or public housing, according to the biography on his website. He left school to play football for Coventry City and Hereford United in the English league, playing as a goalkeeper until forced to retire at the age of 21 because of arthritis.

<!-- Yes I realise I am top-posting-->Hi, the image on this article is fairly OK, but we need a bigger (and better!) one. It's on Wikipedia - Requested Images --Kilo-Lima 00:40, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
He found a job with a local newspaper in Leicester and became a reporter, moving on to local radio, regional television, and eventually national television with the BBC, where he became a sports presenter. He left the BBC to become an activist for the Green Party, rising swiftly to the position of national media spokesperson.
Jack Black - another movie appearence
Jack Black was in The Neverending Story 3 (1994). He played the character Slip, Leader of The Nasties. source - www.imdb.com
In his online autobiography, he writes that, in March 1990, he received a message from the spirit world through a medium. She told him that he was a healer sent to heal the earth, chosen for his courage, and had been directed into football to learn discipline. He was going to leave politics and would become famous, writing five books in three years. One day, there will be a great earthquake, and the "sea will reclaim land", because human beings are abusing the earth.

Anchorman
When Icke told the Green Party leadership what he had experienced, he was immediately banned from speaking at party public meetings. He began to wear only turquoise and in different interviews claimed that he was God or the son of God. In an interview on the Terry Wogan show in 1991, his announcement that he was "a son of the Godhead," and that Britain would be devastated by tidal waves and earthquakes, was met with laughter from the studio audience, derision in the press, and suggestions that he was mentally ill. His supporters say that he was fact describing all humans as children of God, or of some sort of deity, and that the confusion resulted from his scrambling to explain his spiritual apotheosis.

He also had a small role in Anchorman (2004)
After being widely ridiculed, he disappeared from public view for a short time. He has written that, for several years, he was unable to walk down the street without people pointing and laughing, and that this experience helped him find the courage to develop his reptilian ideas, because he was no longer afraid of what people thought of him.

<blockquote>[O]ne of my very greatest fears as a child was being ridiculed in public. And there it was coming true. As a television presenter, I'd been respected. People come up to you in the street and shake your hand and talk to you in a respectful way. And suddenly, overnight, this was transformed into 'Icke's a nutter'. I couldn't walk down any street in Britain without being laughed at. It was a nightmare. My children were devastated because their dad was a figure of ridicule. </blockquote>

:That role is uncredited
He lives in Ryde on the Isle of Wight, where he makes occasional public appearances. Some newspapers stated in 2004 that he might appear on the UK Big Brother television programme in 2005, but Icke later said that he was interested in "the REAL Big Brother, not adding to the diversions that allow him to operate unchallenged".

Conspiracy writingsPicture
Can we get a better picture? Something from Tenacious D, perhaps. Seems more fitting, given what hes better known for.
Icke has published ten books outlining his views, which are a mixture of New Age philosophy and apocalyptic conspiracism, combined with what many interpret as anti-Semitic views.

I agree, especially since that's what he most typically looks like anyway.
Michael Barkun, in his 2003 study of conspiracy theory subculture, A Culture of Conspiracy: Apocalyptic Visions in Contemporary America, writes that Icke is "the most fluent of conspiracy authors, which gives his writings a clarity rarely found in the genre."

X Files
At the heart of Icke's ideas is the belief that the world is being controlled by a secret government. In 1996, in his book ... and the truth will set you free, he claimed this government was financed by bankers and businessmen such as the Rothschilds and Rockefellers. According to British journalist Simon Jones, Icke claims that:

I'm watching the X Files now, with this lightning boy, and he looks like the owner of some video arcade in this episode. I'm not sure, but it sure looks like him. Not sure to put it in the article though, this is a very old episode and I'm not sure if it's exactly him.
<blockquote>Ordinary people are being massively duped into believing that the ordinary course of world events are the consequence of known political forces and random, uncontrollable events. However, the course of humanity is being manipulated at every level . . .</blockquote>

: Yes, he takes part in some episode of "The X Files" (episode # 3.3: "D.P.O.", acording to The Greatest Jack Black Site in the World, but I personally don't remember to have seen him, though it's possible, I didn't know him at the time when I've probably watched the episode. --Tzeck 11:10, 1 September 2005 (UTC)
<blockquote>Now you may be wondering just what nefarious activities these people could possibly get up to. Icke, of course, has the answer. These individuals arrange for incidents to occur around the world, which then elicit a response from the public ("something must be done"), and in turn allows those in power to do whatever they had planned to do in the first place. </blockquote>

I do confirm so, I've just watched the episode and he was in the credits
Icke cites the Holocaust, Oklahoma City bombing, the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, the war in Bosnia, and the September 11, 2001 attacks as examples of events caused by the secret government. Meanwhile, he has said, Jewish bankers are in control of the world's economy, stealing interest from the banks.

Tenacious D
The New-Age aspect of Icke's philosophy, writes Jones, argues that people live in a "multi-dimensional consciousness," and should abandon the false existence the world government provides, which will cause the heirarchy to collapse.
This makes no mention of perhaps the single most responsible role for his current stardom, and that is the one of himself in the HBO show "Tenacious D."

: So tell us about it! The great thing about Wikipedia is that anyone, yes anyone, even you, can add information. I know next to nothing about that, so why don't you enlighten us? --Jacqui M Schedler 04:43, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
In 1999, Icke wrote and published The Biggest Secret: The Book That Will Change the World, in which he said the planet was being run by a New World Order controlled by a race of reptilian humanoids called the "Babylonian Brotherhood". He wrote:

Projects in the mill
<blockquote>My own resaerch [sic] suggests that it is from another dimension, the lower fourth dimension, that the reptilian control and manipulation is primarily orchestrated. Other people know this as the lower astral dimension, the legendary home of demons and malevolent antities [sic] in their black magic rituals ... </blockquote>
So, does anyone else have information regarding Black's upcoming projects? It feels unfair to single a couple of them out by name in the article, when there are 5 or so in the pipeline for the next two years. --Jacqui M Schedler 05:09, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

: With respect, an encycopedia doesn't give out this kind of information. People should see links to his IMDB page or whatever if they want that sort of information.
According to Icke, the reptiles' "hybrid reptilian-human DNA" allows them to change from reptilian to human form if they consume human blood. He has drawn parallels with the 1980s science-fiction series V, in which the earth is taken over by reptiloid aliens disguised as humans.

:: (please sign your comments) I agree, and with that, I am taking the section with new projects that have not yet been released, out. --Jacquelyn Marie 18:23, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
The reptilian group involves many prominent people and practically every world leader from Britain's late Queen Mother to George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Bob Hope. These people are either themselves reptilian, or work for the reptiles as what Icke calls slave-like victims of multiple personality disorder:

::: i don't agree as some of the future work is about set in stone, he will star in the king kong remake, why is it so wrong to show that on wiki. once the movie has been released the piece could be added to the article.
<blockquote>The Rothschilds, Rockefellers, the British royal family, and the ruling political and economic families of the U.S. and the rest of the world come from these SAME bloodlines.</blockquote>
<blockquote>It is not because of snobbery, it is to hold as best they can a genetic structure &mdash; the reptilian-mammalian DNA combination which allows them to "shape-shift".</blockquote>

Animated image
Icke describes "shape-shifting" as "the phenomena in which witnesses have reported seeing people (most often those in positions of power), transform before their eyes, from a human form to a reptilian one and then back again". According to Christine Fitzgerald, a confidante of Diana, Princess of Wales, Diana believed that the British royal family was connected to reptiles and said that they could shape-shift.

The animated image here is awfully distracting. Perhaps another still image would be a better in its place. Meeve 08:54, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
Icke has since published a number of additional books on the same theme. His latest work sees George W. Bush, also a reptiloid, playing a key role in what Icke alleges is a September 11, 2001 conspiracy. (See also Bush family conspiracy theory.)
:hmmm, after looking at the context, it seems that a still image wouldn't work in this case. The animation can make it difficult to read the page, though. Meeve 08:57, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

POV Issue
Anti-Semitism and the far right
"Black is perhaps best-known in for his role as the greedy 1930s-era film director Carl Denham in Peter Jackson's remake of King Kong."
Icke's theories have been attacked as anti-Semitic because his views of a reptilian takeover amid references to international bankers have echoes of conspiracy theories involving Jews.

This seems to have a conflict in POV to me. Not only do I disagree with the statement (School of Rock was definitively Black's rise to being a household name) but it's got definitive POV.
Icke has strongly denied that his reptiles represent Jews. "I am not an anti-Semite!", he told The Guardian, "I have a great respect for the Jewish people." He maintains that the reptilians are not human, and therefore not Jewish, but are "extra-dimensional entities" that enter and control human minds. He also says that what he calls the "white race" is most susceptible to reptilian influence, particularly white people with blue eyes.
:It does say "perhaps". But if you disagree go ahead and change it. A good idea would be to list a few of his roles. JackO&#39;Lantern 05:21, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

PitFall!
However, Icke's statements that a cabal of Jewish bankers planned the Holocaust and financed Hitler's rise to power are regarded as anti-Semitic by Jewish groups and others. Icke has cited white supremacist, neo-Nazi and other far-right publications in his books. Simon Jones notes that the bibliography of ... and the truth will set you free lists The Spotlight, formerly published by the now-defunct Liberty Lobby, and which Icke calls "excellent," and On Target, published by the Australian League of Rights, which has organized speaking tours for Holocaust denier David Irving. Jones writes:

According on the Pitfall! article, his first acting job was a commercial for the game. The game is quite popular, so prehaps this should be added to the article?
<blockquote>It's tempting to dismiss David Icke as a confused and ignorant man, manipulated by extremists in order to present their philosophy in a socially acceptable format. But Icke clearly understands the implications of his words. </blockquote>

Vandalism
During a question-and-answer session after one of his lectures, Icke told Jones:

--Black was born in Richard King's basement under Studio 8H to a middle-class Jewish family. His parents, George Washington and Martha Stewart, were Janitors and members of a naturist group, Family Synergy . They divorced when he was -0.
<blockquote>I believe that people have a right to believe, to read, and have access to all information, so that they can then make up their own minds what to think. In 1999, Icke's books were removed from Indigo stores across Ontario, and several venues on his speaking tour were cancelled, after protests from the Canadian Jewish Congress. The University of Toronto allowed his planned speech there to go ahead, despite the presence of 70 protesters, including the Green Party of Ontario, outside the Hart House Theatre. Icke received a standing ovation from the audience after speaking for five hours.

<blockquote>I dispute the anti-Semite issue because the Jewish community has chosen to isolate anti-Semitic quotes in David's books which he himself uses quotes from Jewish authors to prove his theories. == Acting career ==
British journalist Louis Theroux, reviewing Jon Ronson's Them: Adventures with Extremists, cautioned against accusing Icke of anti-Semitism:

In a few of his songs he can be quoted as saying "Dianetics junior much better than krishna...Dianetics Junior much better indeed" (another city hall lyric i believe). == Marijuana ==

In the article it says, "Black supports the legalization of marijuana and referred to those who wished to keep it banned as 'old fucking shrivs' in the Tenacious D song, 'City Hall'." This seems a little slack to me. Although I'm not saying I don't believe that Jack Black supports the legalization of Marijuana, there should be a citation other than the lyrics of a commedy song. In the same song, Black calls for such things as riots to tear down society and for public and private transportation to be replaced by "tube" travelling. However, the article doesn't state these as opinions. If Black supports the legalization of Marijuana, we should have a better source than this.

Second, if you check what links to the plain Jack Black ->Black, you'll notice virtually ALL refer to the actor. *Oppose Though I plan to name my first three kids after him, Jack Black may not be the biggest Jack Black ten years from now. We should stick with the normal format--it doesn't diminish his prowess. For that matter, I wouldn't give Michael Jackson (twisted, attention-starved "adult" vestige of the popular child singer) the exclusive MJ page either. Not a battle I'd engage in, though--it'd just give him more attention, which is a mistake. Exclusive ownership of a name page on Wikipedia should be reserved for people like Benjamin Franklin and Marie Curie. -Eric (talk) 14:07, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
** I'm sorry, "how they got famous" is not a reason for rejecting the move. Just because you don't like what Michael Jackson has done, it shouldn't affect what his article title is. Similarly, it doesn't matter that Jack Black may not be the biggest Jack Black 10 years from now. Benjamin Franklin may not be the most famous one 10 years from now either. And if and when that happens, we can deal with it then. - Bssc81 14:11, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

*Support. The issue is relative noteworthiness not absolute (i.e., what would most users be seeking when typing a particular name). And no need to try and predict the future fame of persons of the same name; the change can be made then if needed. — <span style="border:1px solid blue;padding:1px;"><font style="color:#fef;background:navy;">&nbsp;AjaxSmack&nbsp;</font></span> 10:25, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Discussion
Add any additional comments:
* Response to some people above - he may not be as famous as Michael Jackson, but it's pretty close when you consider his fame relative to other people named Jack Black. Nobody else comes close - as I mentioned, look at how few links there are to the "secondary" Jack Blacks. Consider John Adams (and see John Adams (disambiguation)). Far more people are named "John Adams" than "Jack Black", yet the fact that one single John Adams is far more popular than the others is why the article is not named "John Adams (former U.S. president)". I'm not sure what the rule of thumb is, but the fact that 90%+ links to "Jack Black" are intended for the actor should mean something. As a secondary reason, it's a lot less work to move this page than to change every single link to "Jack Black". --Bssc81 23:46, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
** Response to above "I'm sorry...": Don't be sorry. I'm not opposing it for that reason; I don't think we should create precedents that might spawn time-consuming discussions like this over every famous person whose fans want them to have a Wiki-exclusive on their name. I certainly was not saying that my opinion of MJ's antics should be the determining factor in titling his article. I also think it's a safe bet that Ben Franklin will still be a household name in ten years. -Eric (talk) 14:50, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Award Winning?
The main description of this article claims that Black is award winning. However, the rest of the article fails to detail what awards he has won. Can anyone add that? Mmeyers 22:30, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

:Hmm, according to IMDB he won a Blockbuster Entertainment Award, a DVD Exclusive Award and a MTV Movie Award. All three aren't very big awards or that notable that we should mention this in the lead paragraph, so I'm removing the "award-winning" bit. --Conti|&#9993; 22:38, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

::Actually, I think an MTV Movie Award is notable enough. I'd be for including "award-winning" as long as which awards he received is included later in the article. Mmeyers 17:17, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Jack Black was not the lead in Saving Silverman, that would be Jason Biggs. Regarding the statement in the trivia section that JB made a cameo in Arrested Development episode 302, "For British Eyes Only": none of the darts players look that much like JB. Does someone have a cite for this? If not, I would vote to remove it, as much as I wish it were true.

:Right after the barkeep tells Michael "unless you're just here for the Poppins", Jack looks almost directly at the camera. He's wearing a beret, and clean-shaven, but it's him, all right. I don't think it was a credited role, so citing it may be tricky...though it seems a moot point as the trivia section is gone now.
