NellaIn sua carriera giovanile,gioventù Harris hasuona suonatoin con moltivari gruppi musicali, cometra cui: i [[The Charmers|Charmers]], i [[The Teenagers (gruppo musicale statunitense)|Teenagers]], i [[The Jarmels|Jarmels]], e i [[Nat Turner's Rebellion (gruppo musicale)|Nat Turner's Rebellion]]. Negli [[Anni 1970|anni settanta]] fonda, insieme a [[Randy Cain]], i [[Delfonics]]; esceda dalcui gruppoesce nel 1974. CantandoIncidendo con la [[Atlantic Records]], Harris compone molte hits, come ad esempio il [[singolo]] "''[[Love Won't Let Me Wait]]"'', il quale è arrivato al 5°º posto nella [[Classifica musicale|classifica]]della [[Billboard Hot 100]].
