This is a list of temples operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in chronological order. In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Church"), a temple is a building dedicated to be a House of the Lord, and considered by Church members to be the most sacred structures on earth. Upon completion, temples are usually open to the public for a short period of time (the "Open House"), and then they are dedicated as a "House of the Lord," after which only members in good standing are permitted. Currently there are 123 operating temples, 6 under construction, and 6 announced but construction has not started.

LeRoy Butler, III (born July 19, 1968) is a former American football strong safety who played his entire career with the Green Bay Packers (1990-2001). He spent his childhood in Jacksonville, Florida, challenged by physical problems that forced him to wear leg braces and use a wheelchair at times while undergoing therapy .
Within temples, members of the Church make covenants, receive instructions, and perform rituals and ordinances, such as: baptism for the dead, washing and anointing (or "initiatory" ordinances), the "endowment," and eternal marriage sealings. Ordinances are a vital part of the theology of the Church, which teaches that they were practiced by the Lord's covenant people in all dispensations. Additionally, members consider the temple a place to commune with God, seek God’s aid, understand His will, and receive personal revelation.

HistoryCollege career
Butler played under head coach Bobby Bowden at Florida State University. He was a three-year starter, collecting 194 tackles and 9 interceptions, but he's most remembered by FSU fans for his role in the "puntrooskie". In 1988, against rival Clemson, FSU was backed up to its own 21-yard line on fourth down with 1:30 left to play and the score tied at 21. Bowden called the famous trick play, a fake punt. The snap went to upback Dayne Williams and he slipped the ball to Butler, who ran 78 yards to set up the game-winning field goal.

In 1832, shortly after the formation of the Church, Joseph Smith, Jr. said the Lord wanted the saints to build a temple (); and they completed the Kirtland Temple in 1836. Initially, the Church constructed temples in areas where there were large concentrations of members: Utah, Idaho, Arizona, Hawai'i (all in the USA), and Alberta (Canada). However, because of the importance of temples in the theology, in the mid 20th century, the Church tried to balance density with the travel requirements attending the temple imposed upon members. Thus, temples were built in Europe (Switzerland-1955 and England-1958); the Pacific Islands (New Zealand-1958); <!-- should we include Wash DC? -->and Washington, D.C. (1974 - first temple East of Utah since Nauvoo in 1846) when membership alone might not have justified the effort.

NFL career
In the 1980s, Spencer W. Kimball directed the Church to build temples smaller and according to standardized plans allowing temples to be built where there were fewer members. As a result the first temples in South America (Brazil-1978); Asia (Japan-1980); and Central America (Mexico City-1983) were built and the number of temples doubled from 15 to 36. Current Church president and prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley, has also accelerated the construction of temples through the construction of temples based on an even smaller standardized base design. In 1998 when there were only 51 temples, Hinckley set a goal to have 100 temples before 2001. He succeeded and the number of temples doubled again from 47 to 123 during his service as President.
Butler was selected by the Packers in the second round of the 1990 draft. He played in 181 games, earned a Super Bowl ring after the 1996 season and was selected to the Pro Bowl four times(1993, 1996, 1997, and 1998). He was named to the NFL 1990s All-Decade Team by the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

After being selected to his first Pro Bowl, he changed the emphasis on his first name from Leroy (LEEroy) to LeRoy (l'ROY) because it sounded classier. During his 12 seasons with the Packers, he recorded 953 tackles, 38 interceptions, and 20 1/2 sacks. He led or tied for the team lead in interceptions in five different seasons.

Butler is credited with inventing the Lambeau Leap - a touchdown celebration in which the scoring player leaps into the arms of awaiting fans in the stands near the end zone. On December 26, 1993, the Packers were playing the visiting Los Angeles Raiders. On a second-down swing pass to running back Randy Jordan, Butler forced a fumble that was recovered by Reggie White at the Raiders' 35. After running with the ball for 10 yards, White lateraled to Butler, who ran the remaining 25 yards into the end zone and then made a spontaneous leap into the arms of fans in the south bleachers. The Packers went on to win 28-0 to clinch what would be the first of six consecutive playoff berths. The move was later popularized by wide receiver Robert Brooks, who carried it a step further by leaping completely into the stands. This move is called the Lambeau Leap and now is used after many Packer touchdowns.
