The Black console is a limited edition. I've re-edited it again with the source. WILL IDIOTS STOP CHANGING IT TO NOT LIMITED WITH NO FRIGGIN SOURCE TO BACK IT UP!!!
An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, :Image:Purple-DiamondsTransparent.png, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH OKAY GUY http://www.gamespot.com/news/6168182.html
Since you felt that the ad tag should be removed, I have had no choice but to list the article for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Novogradac & Company LLP. Corvus cornix 22:36, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
As for the fate of the current hard-drive-less $299 Core Xbox 360 and 360-equipped Pro Xbox 360 models, Penello said they would continue to be offered. He also confirmed that the new model would be a permanent addition to the 360 product line and not a limited edition.

Removal of an Articles for Deletion tag is considered vandalism. If you disagree with the article's listing, discuss it at the linked page. Corvus cornix 23:06, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
:: Hmmm, well as it stands now that paragraph doesn't really make sense, because here on Wiki it's now stating that it will be a third model, yet the reference link points to a source saying that it WILL be limited edition, and once it's sold out the premium will just mirror the Elite's specification. I think either the article or the source should be changed (whichever turns out to be true) but I don't want to piss anyone off so I'll just leave it for someone else ;) Paulfp 08:36, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

:::Uh, that reference link most certainly does not point to a source saying it will be a limited edition. You must have misread it. As such, I don't think it needs correction. Michael.A.Anthony 17:34, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Whatever you are meaning to do, you are writing an advertisement which in no way mirrors the style of the articles that you mentioned in my Talk page. Corvus cornix 23:16, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
:::: Sorry, I got mixed up when I was writing that comment... the bit I'm referring to in that quote is this: "Eventually Elite hardware (in white plastics) will take the role of the Xbox Premium. That is to say, after the Elite is launched and sold out, future Xbox Premiums will have 120GB / HDMI." which is in contradiction to what this article says: "The black-cased console [...] will feature as a third SKU alongside the Core and Premium bundles and will always be available for purchase, rather than being a limited edition model." am I right? <small>—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Paulfp (talk • contribs) 20:58, 29 March 2007 (UTC).</small><!-- HagermanBot Auto-Unsigned -->

Plus, repeated deletion of cleanup tags, which has been done throughout the edit history of this article without any discussion, is extremely rude. Corvus cornix 23:17, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
The is seriously screwed up. It says it wont be a limited edition in the article then the source says it will be. Im sick of having to repeatedly change this article. THE BLACK IS LIMITED. ONCE IT RUNS OUT IT WILL STILL BE ELITE, BUT IT WILL BE WHITE!!!! GET IT NOW?? ARGH!

I most certainly have. I went and looked around, and their articles are not advertisement. Please also read WP:COI. Corvus cornix 23:32, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
It is not limited, that source is not credible. I say somebody should find a new source from either ign.com, gamespot.com, or xbox.com, because it has been stated on all these websites that it is indeed not limited, and will always be available for purchase.

Criticisms?
Would it be fair to add a list of common criticisms to the article? In particular, I wanted to mention that because the 1080p signal that the X360 sends is upscaled on the console end, the HDMI cables give no visual advantage while playing X 360 games and that DVD-9 does not have the storage capacity for digital audio, and as such there is no audio advantage either. These are all verifiable claims, but would this be appropriate? I think it would be, but I'm looking for a second opinion. Michael.A.Anthony 17:37, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

: I think a bit of criticism would be nice, as similar articles have them as well. Although not necessarily the ones you mentioned. (Myscrnnm 01:17, 31 March 2007 (UTC))

You have no knowledge of this console. It only upscales game that are rendered it 720p. Games such as Virtua Tennis 3 are RENDERED IN 1080p. No upscaling. PS fans are so naive. MOst games on that are 720p. At least we can scale games :P172.141.11.243 13:02, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Ignore the ignorant person above. A criticism's section would nice. Hempeater 21:53, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Separate Article?
Is the Elite really notable enough to earn its own article or would a section on the main XBOX 360 page be more appropriate? I am not aware of another Wikipedia page devoted to what is essentially a minor revision of an existing product, the PS2 slim doesn't have its own page. I cannot see there being much more information released on the Elite to add to the article and the information there is could easily be included on the main page. SkorponokX 18:25, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
:: I'd have no problems with it being merged into the main article Paulfp 20:55, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
::: I think it should have it's own article just as the Nintendo DS Lite has it's own. Silver Sonic Shadow 20:58, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

:::: I think this should have its own article. I agree with Silver Sonic Shadow. And if the PS2 SLim doesnt have an article, it should. i'm not gonna make it since i dont know much about it though. --Nick Scratch 20:44, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

::::: I also agree that the PlayStation 2 SCPH-70000 series should have its own article. However, this Xbox 360 Elite article is just so justified because whereas when SCEI releases a hardware revision, it's not supposed to be an upgrade. But with the Xbox 360 Elite, Microsoft is basically screwing over the early adopters who bought the Xbox 360 Premium assuming they were getting the highest-end Xbox 360, but have now been screwed over by Microsoft. (Myscrnnm 01:20, 31 March 2007 (UTC))

:::::: Hmmm - POV, lads, POV. You can get the main advantage of the Elite separately in the white 360 scheme in the form of the 120GB HDD. Also, HDMI is aimed solely at the American market - the only main 360 market where HDMI is in common usage. There is no practical advantage to having an Elite over a previous model unless you have a HDTV - and the quality difference between HD-Composite and HDMI is miniscule. No - it is the Elite owners who will be royally screwed for paying out extra for a new colour scheme.--JavaJawaUK 19:37, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

::::::: Actually, the quality difference between composite and HDMI is huge. Composite has a maximum output of 480i (480 lines interlaced) while HDMI has up to 1080p (1,080 lines progressive). Not to mention composite is analog while HDMI is digital. Also, HDMI is NOT aimed solely at the American market. Sure, the French still use SCART, but Japan and others use HDMI. (Myscrnnm 19:07, 1 April 2007 (UTC))

:::::::: I think the poster was referring to component output, which he is correct in saying that when done correctly is almost identical to HDMI. --Ray andrew 19:41, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

format war
I've reinstated the little section about the Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD format war, as I think this is a very interesting point (the point I found most interesting when I first read this article) and is very relevant to the Xbox's market position. I have, however, made the title of this slightly more minor, so it's not a whole big section in itself. Paulfp 11:18, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

:I think the section is misleading. Microsoft has always stated that they would not include a HD DVD drive in future revisions, as they do not want to force expensive technology on people. Furthermore, there would be technical problems adding a HD DVD drive (or a Blu-ray drive for that matter) as they are not yet able to read normal DVD's at the same 16x speed as the current drive, possibly creating incompatibilities with several games, and slowing down others. Furthermore, to be honest the analyst that is quoted is a hack :). I will edit accordingly. --Ray andrew 13:03, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

:: "do not want to force expensive technology on people" Well thats a first :) *COUGH*DVD PLAYING ON THE ORIGINAL XBOX *COUGH COUGH*. Sorry about that, i got an irratible throat :) --Nick Scratch 20:48, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

:::WHAT? The first DVD players were released in November 1996, five years later the Xbox was released in November 2001. By that time DVD players could easily be had for less then $100. In fact back then Microsoft didn't even force people to pay for DVD-video royalties if they didn't want to (the royalties were associated with the required remote). I really don't see how the situation can even be compared. --Ray andrew 21:24, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

:::: I agree with this Ray Andrew. Not to mention during the sixth-generation era, both Microsoft and Sony Computer Entertainment were using standard DVD media while Nintendo (and arguably Sega) were using low-capacity proprietary media. Plus, why is there any mention of Blu-ray disc at all in this article? Microsoft is officially backing the HD DVD format (not that I support it, I actually support BD, but I just thought I'd point this out). (Myscrnnm 01:22, 31 March 2007 (UTC))

:: I think the entire section should be left out. It is based on one, overly-critical article that is rather silly. MS stated all along that they would NEVER put an internal HD-DVD drive inside any xbox 360 SKU. The Elite is perfectly inline with this policy, unlike Sony who force users to have the blu-ray drive. And how are they dealing a blow to toshiba NOW, when they have been making 360s sans internal HDDVD drive for over a year and a half? RC Master 13:54, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

::: Ah, another Sony player-hater. SCEI is by no means forcing users to use Blu-ray disc. I am proud to use a PlayStation 3 because SCEI gives me more choices as to what I can do with my system. I can use CDs, DVDs, SACDs, and BD. On the other hand, Microsoft limits you to only CD and DVD with with Xbox 360, and you have to pay $199 to use HD DVD, which isn't even that good (15GB per layer). In short, HD DVD is just a DVD 1.5. With the PlayStation 3, you get integration. (Myscrnnm 19:10, 1 April 2007 (UTC))
