The '''University of Mannheim''' is one of the younger German universities. Though its roots go back to the ''Kurpfälzische Akademie der Wissenschaften'' of 1763, the actual university was founded in 1903 as college for [[economics]]. In the 1960s the university extended to the full university of today. [[Mannheim]] is a city in southwestern [[Germany]] with a population of nearly 300,000.

Today it has about 11.500 students. The university occupies large parts of the Mannheim castle, the world largest one of the baroque era, and some additional new-built lecture halls throughout the city. Some affiliated research institutes like the renowned "Centre for European Economic Research" (ZEW) and the "Mannheim Research Institute for the Economics of Aging" (MEA) are located on the campus.
