US House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, a powerful figure in Texas politics, advocated arresting the Texas Ten, telling reporters that he supported using FBI agents or U.S. marshals to arrest the runaway Democrats and bring them back to Austin, asserting that redistricting is a federal matter of federal concern.
I changed the logo here to a larger, slightly more professional one. The old logo was meant to be displayed as part of the WGN Radio site's design on a blue background. The text was slanted and difficult to read. This one is all straight and, as I said, a bit more professional.Tflynn17 15:55, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
A number of Democrats left the state, going to Oklahoma and later New Mexico, to deny a quorum for voting. The court ruled that the Attorney General signed letter was not a warrant (see call of the house), thereby stopping the Texas Rangers from arresting the legislators. Senator John Whitmire only then returned without fear of being arrested. The rest of the Democrats followed, complaining that they had to charge their credit cards to the limit to pay lawyers.
