It is sometimes informally known as the [[Las Vegas, Nevada|Las Vegas]] of [[Malaysia]] as it is the only legal land-based [[casino]] in [[Malaysia]], run by [[Resorts World Bhd]], a sub-company of [[Genting Group]], and [[First World Hotel and Resort Sdn Bhd]]. The resort, [[Genting Highlands Resort]], also features many [[hotels]] owned by Genting subsidiaries including [[Genting Hotel]], [[Highlands Hotel]], [[Resort Hotel]], [[Theme Park Hotel]] and [[Awana Genting]]. Genting Highlands functions every year as the finish point of a stage in the [[Tour de Langkawi]] cycling race. It is one of the longest (30 km) climbs featured in a cycling event. Below the hill is the Chinese temple called [[Chin Swee Temple]] for Chinese and the mosque called [[Masjid Yayasan Mohammad Noah]] for Muslims.
Genting casino was voted the World's Leading Casino Resort in Nov 2005 by the [[World Travel Awards]].
