Buttrock legit?
To my surprise, it looks like Buttrock is a legitimate term. Could you check my reasoning and let me know if I'm being too generous? Thanks, --William Pietri 16:21, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
*Response: I would tend to suggest an AfD, and let the community at large decide. I still think it's undeserving of an entry, but maybe others actually find it useful.
**I just realized this already was AfD, so I posted a comment to the article's AfD page. Cheers! --Alan 04:33, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
Have you dealt with MostWanted05 or the 86.xxxx user?
I have no choice, I will report this person to the Wikipedia commitee. He choose to continue the "think I own this site" excuse "over-and-over" again! Wikipedia:Requests for comment/user:MostWanted05 Any thoughts? Thanks.

*Response: I seem to vaguely remember this user, but not enough to be able to comment on him. Wish I would be of more help.
Plentyoffish
Per comments already posted (I'm not sure how TALK works) this does read like an ad. It speaks about nothing but the good, and how much income the author makes. Any attempt to focus even the slightest bit of negativity, and the entries are deleted by an IP located in British Columbia. Sugest POF ad be deleted or allow both pro and con entires to stand.

*Response: I'm not sure if you're approving or rejecting my Prod tag, but in any case, the article seems without merit. If you have any complaint with my prod tag, I would suggest you change it to an AfD and allow the community at large to discuss it. As far as I'm concerned, it's an extremely short article with little relevance to anything. Cheers! --Alan 11:07, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
Manitoba disambiguation page
Hi, there's 1+ problem user on the Manitoba disambiguation page (I think you may be aware of this). I (and several others) repeatedly add an entry (for musician Dan Snaith's former recording moniker ("Manitoba")) but it is as frequently deleted. What's the appropriate way to deal with this? I posted a similr query on a 3-revert rule page a couple of days ago but haven;t seen a reply. Thanks Hu Gadarn 16:10, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
*Response: I noticed that it is always an unregistered IP, and they were even deleting the hyperlink markup that I was adding to their OWN entries! The only suggestion I could make is to have it protected from non-registered users' edits, but I don't know if an admin will go for it. Here's the link to that policy: Wikipedia:Protection policy. Cheers! --Alan 02:34, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. I did this (request protection), which seems to work for the unregistered vandal. However, "Urbanshocker" is now vandalising the Caribou (musician) page in a similar vein as the previous vandalism on the two pages (Manitoba (disambiguation) and Caribou (musician). Perhaps this is the same person as the unregistered vandal.Hu Gadarn 07:12, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

fahrenheit 9/11
Alan,
Please do not call the movie a documentary in the first line. Let's stick to comedy. Calling it a documentary is an insult to too many *serious* documentary makers, because a documentary must *first and foremost* be factual and truthful, and it is very clear that there are *way too many* issues with this work. But it is undeniably funny, and this is an effect that Moore has sought, and undeniably succeeded at. I insist on using something along the following lines:
Fahrenheit 9/11 is an award-winning comedy by American filmmaker and liberal activist Michael Moore, which had a general release in the United States and Canada on June 25, 2004 in the run up to that year's presidential election. Though sometimes classified as a documentary, the film steps away from the conventions of this genre and employs a heavy dose of satirical black humour, but there are also, arguably, misrepresentations and hyperbole in this work. Moore himself has called the film as an "op-ed piece" while vehemently defending its factual accuracy. "
Let's not try to have it both ways, first calling it a documentary, and then saying it steps away from the conventions of the genre!!
Thank you for your help. I think my proposal is very balanced and reasonable for "both sides", which is a requirement for a good encyclopedia.
Best regards,
Michael Ausems,
Paris, France
*Response: I reverted your first edit because it was entirely in French, in the English Wikipedia, which for obvious reasons is inappropriate. Second, if you wish to consider it a comedy, that's fine. But it is generally classified as a documentary, no matter what your political persuasion. We need to keep within the guidelines of wp:npov, and as such, calling something a comedy when it's classified otherwise strays from that guideline. Therefore, I stand by my decision, but I also abide by wp:3rr, so I will let someone else intervene if necessary. Thank you for your comment, and as always, I appreciate any feedback you have to offer. Cheers! --Alan 09:31, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
Overzealous use of VandalProof
I was browsing through RC when I noticed that both you and Winhunter reverted edits by an anonymous poster to the page Analogman using that program. The problem is, that was a perfectly legitimate edit he/she was making, deleting a spurious refference to some troll on a Wilco messageboard that had no place in the article. I don't know just how much info the program gives you on the nature of the post you're reverting. If you really looked at it, and think that sort of thing belongs there, than that's one thing. Otherwise you're just replacing garbage left their by a different anonymous poster in a snowballing effect. Icelight 15:25, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Wait, you just added a tag, giving the reason for the deletion. Its a bit confusing. It say:
*It is a talk page of a page which does not exist (CSD G8).
What were you refering to? The article? Zos 02:07, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

A short Esperanzial update
As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.
As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. == Religious view-tainted changes?... ==
Deleting the H. Ray Collver article was a big mistake. Keep your religious views out of your editing changes in Wikipedia, please. It is quite clear that you're not really religious, but that does not mean you are allowed to callously select articles for deletion. Please think again next time. 12.40.161.138
*Response: My decision to nominate the article for deletion had nothing to do with my religious views. The article only made two main points regarding the subject: he was a pastor and a veteran. While this is admirable, it's not necessarily notable. Please see Wikipedia:Notability (people) for more info. Thanks! --NMChico24 21:50, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
David Devenish
Hello. You tagged the above article for speedy deletion. Unfortunately, it does not qualify for speedy deletion, as it asserts a claim to notability, and is not a repost of deleted material. If you believe the article does not belong on Wikipedia, please consider going via WP:PROD or WP:AFD. Regards, <span style="text-decoration:none">Proto</span><I><B>/</B>/<B>/</B></I><small><span style="text-decoration:none">type</span></small> 23:13, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
*Response: Actually, according to the deletion log, this article was deleted with the following note: 15:37, 24 June 2006 Royboycrashfan deleted "David Devenish" (A7). Therefore, it technically was reposted content, although it had been speedily deleted, which may or may not always count. Hi, I notice you left a warning on User:M1ss1ontomars2k4's talk page stating that M1ss1ontomars2k4 had removed vandalism warnings from the talk page. I can see no evidence of this. In addition the warning itself was malformed. Could you point me to specific diffs that show the alleged removal of warnings from M1ss1ontomars2k4's talk page? == Othernames (disambiguation) ==
I think this page was created by a user who meant to create Michael Neary (disambiguation) and user othernames on the main Michael Neary article, but got confused somehow. I thought moving the page in line with what was likely intended was a better solution than deleting it (which I couldn't technically do within WP:CSD anyway). Note that it's just fine to have redlinks on disambiguation pages, because now we know there's a Michael Neary we don't have an article on yet and a little bit of information to get started. In general, please do try to fix up problem articles if at all possible, rather than get rid of them. -- SCZenz 22:54, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
*My Response: The response I get to this sort of thing always seems to depend on which admin reviews it. I personally see no reason to have a disambiguation page for articles that don't exist. It would be better to submit a request for the redlinked article, have it be written, and then create a disambiguation page when true ambiguity finally exists. But, of course, that's just my humble opinion on the matter, which may or may not relate to reality in any way :-) --NMChico24 23:07, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
**It's a legitimate point of disagreement, which is why speedy deletion would have been a bad thing, because the chance to discuss would have been lost. Fortunately, in their wisdom the writers of WP:CSD did not include either "disambig page with mostly redlinks" or "misnamed page" among the criteria. Treatment of speedy deletion does vary by admin, but I like to follow the letter of the law, and I send polite reminders to other admins to do the same; I do this because borderline cases benefit from further input and discussion, and we're generally not in a hurry to delete such articles. You're welcome, of course, to put the article in question up for AfD or used proposed deletion. -- SCZenz 06:05, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

*Response: You're comparing apples and oranges. What is appropriate for a User page may not be appropriate for the main encyclopedia. The links I provide on my User page give others an idea of what kind of material I find interesting, which gives relevant info about myself as a contributor. ***You don't have to be an admin to request that deficient articles be deleted. Part of how a Wiki works is that content is being constantly scrutinized by many different people, which results in some of it being updated/corrected/improved, and an awful lot of it being thrown out. Wikipedia has events listed that happened today. Many listings on this website don’t deserve to be listed in the 'history books' Furthermore, who are you to judge whether listings should be removed? Others will do the same, and depending on community consensus, the article will either stay or go. As for my comment, I simply believe the brewery has not had time to establish wide notability, which is what is necessary to be included in an encyclopedia in my (and many others') opinion. --NMChico24 03:43, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
**Also, I have revised the wording in my comment on your article's deletion discussion to be clearer and more appropriate. --NMChico24 04:09, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
RE: Wintermute Music
Did you even read my reasoning before you deleted my entry? I do not mean to be a pain here, but I do intend to further pursue this. I have lost respect for the Wiki, which I thought was a continuation of the revolution in media and how people obtain knowledge. While you are very open in some area and I do fully appricate your concerns you are censoring an Artist that is played all over the Internet is a first page hit on a search for "Wintermute Music" and a 2nd page for Wintermute and has been making and distributing music on the Internet for over 6 years... Wintermute0010 09:07, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
*I am not the one who deleted your entry. I simply nominated it. The entry was reviewed by myself and others, found to be lacking in the credibility and noteworthiness for inclusion in an encyclopedia, and then reviewed again by an administrator prior to deletion. If you have a problem with the way the deletion was handled, feel free to visit Wikipedia:Deletion review. Thanks! --NMChico24 04:09, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
**My apologies, I did not mean to be so quick to point the finger. I am just frustrated by your ( Wiki's ) critrea for Notabily in regards to Music/Musical groups. I will take this up with the page you referenced. I do not know what the answer is in regards to recognizing legitimate Internet Musical artist, but I do know, myself included, that there are a great many who do deserve mention/entry into the Wikipedia. Wintermute0010 09:07, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
***What you have to bear in mind is that artists must already have an established following before they can be listed here. I realize that you may know of a really great up-and-coming artist, or may be one yourself. But until the artist becomes known among a large following and receives some national attention, an article about that artist is most likely going to be deleted. This article may help, as it describes what Wikipedia is and is not: Wikipedia:Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. --NMChico24 04:34, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
**So national attention, meaning that they are part of the same musical system that mp3.com and others that are trying to change how things in the music world work wanted absolutely no part of and are currently still fighting? Is the Internet not it's own nation? Explain to me how this line of reasoning ( that an artist doesn't deserve recognition unless they are "nationally" recognized ) When the very _existence_ of the Wikipedia is because you and ppl who follow you are trying to change the way knowledge is gathered and published. You are doing the _exact_ same thing that mp3.com ( which has a very large entry here ). Should I even bother trying to write an article about the new music revolution, or is that event not going to be concidered "significant"?<br><br>Your criteria completely plays into the RIAA and the recording industies wishes, that only Artists that they support ( and therefore control ) are the only "legitimate" music ppl should listen to. Because short of being on NPR that is the only way I know to get "National" recognition of an artist in the USA. Wintermute0010 09:07, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
***You're not writing about a revolution, you're promoting an unknown band. Of course the band does not have to have renown via the traditional "get a recording contract, make records, go on tour" route. Perhaps the band will become well known as one that defied the RIAA standard and became famous despite it. But it does need to become famous to be present in an encyclopedia. --NMChico24 05:01, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
**Of course the band does not have to have renown via the traditional "get a recording contract, make records, go on tour" route, ok, then based on your critera mentioned in WP:Music what would be another way(route) to get you to recognize an Internet band? Do you need to have all the fans flood you with requests? I am honestly curious and not trying to cause a problem because I do not see what your critera is here when you say the band is "unknown". The The Residents are an example of a band that would be "unknown" to a majority of the general public but yet have a 30 year careeer and a very large entry on here. Please realize, nothing in the article was even close to "promotion" there were no links to sites or anything like that it was just information that fans would find interesting. I am glad I didn't write more as it would have been demoralizing to talk about the band in detail only to have it deleted. Please understand, I appreciate your time in this, and in no way am I trying to be a problem. Wintermute0010 09:07, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
***I believe I've made my position on this fairly clear. If no one has heard of you, there's no reason for you to be chronicled in an encyclopedia. I'm going to go ahead and end this discussion now. Good luck! --NMChico24 21:27, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
**No one has heard of Wintermute?... ummm check out the charts on tagworld.com ( over 2 million ppl are there and over 8,000 bands have posted songs and websites there--it is social web like myspace ( you have heard of myspace, yes? ) Tagworld was a major sponser of SXSW. Wintermute is charting in the top 40-60 out of 8,000 bands. Look and see what "notable" bands and acts are in that top 100... www.tagworld.com and click on the "Music" tab at the top and then hit the "All" link under the Browse by Artist/Band on the left hand side of the page. Wintermute has been in that top 20-60 chart position since December of last year--that has been because tens of thousands of ppl in that community have heard Wintermute and added Wintermute music to their sites there. You didn't answer my question about if I should bother writing an article about the "New Music Revolution". I do not want to spend a long time writing an article on something if this is how it is going to be treated ( the reason I only did a stub for Wintermute ).<br><br>I really am not trying to ruffle feathers here, I am just trying to make a case that your critera for notably music/artists is--ironically--competely ignoring the Internet community as a source of music and musical artists. I would like to know what research was done before you decided that "no on has heard of you" was your reasoning. I know you said you consulted with other editors, but what research was done? outside of your WP:Music page?--which you said above ( and is said in the page itself that the critera is a more or less guide line--This page gives some rough guidelines which we might use to decide if a musical topic is notable.;Important note: Failing to satisfy the notability guidelines is not a criterion for speedy deletion. An article that fails to even claim that the subject of the article is notable can be speedy deleted under criterion A7, however. A mere claim of notability, even if contested, may avoid deletion under A7 and require a full Article for Deletion process to determine if the subject of the article is notable. I couldn't even protest in the "Article for Deletion" process as the Talk page was gone as well. I feel like I am being treated like a 14 year old kid here ( am nearly 40 btw ) I have tried to be nothing but respectful in this dialog and have provided lenghtly arugments to try and discuss this. I have been met with short answers that boarder on quips: "If you have a problem with the way the deletion was handled, feel free to visit...", "...I'm going to go ahead and end this discussion now. Good luck!...", "You're not writing about a revolution, you're promoting an unknown band..." To me,these responses are short and show little-to-no tolerance. Honestly, at this point, I would be amazed if you didn't just drop this and never answer any of the questions I have respectfully asked. Hi, you voted recently to delete this article. The final outcome of that AfD was no consensus. There were several mentions of merging the two articles together and I originally placed a merge tag on the article as disputed (due to several people voting to delete it). In the discussion of that article recently, an editor has shown the desire to merge the two articles. I am letting you know because the status of the merge tag is no longer disputed, and I am advising all of the editors who voted against that. Thanks. Ste4k 01:45, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Hey, how's it goin'? I'm gathering support from Wikipedian Democrats to help bring the 2008 DNC to my hometown of Denver. If your interested, just post User Denver2008 on your page. Anyhow, have a good one. Editor19841 23:53, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
*Response: Denver is one of my favorite cities, so I've posted your userbox to my page. Especially since it tends to be a "red" state, I can think of no more appropriate place for it... cept maybe Kansas... --NMChico24 11:53, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
::Rocky Mountain High! It's great to have your support in the effort to bring the DNC home to the west in 2008. Believe me, I'm a native Denverite, and I can tell you that Denver is the best place for the centennial convention (Denver first and last hosted the DNC in 1908, and Colorado is the Centennial State). It would greatly help the efforts of the campaign if you can help us out at all with the promotion of "Wikipedians for Denver 2008" any way you can. If you've got any questions or comments, I can always be reached through my talk page. Anyhow, thanks for your support, have a good one. == Steve Schuh ==
The bio i have listed for Steve Schuh is not publicizing he is running for political office. While his bio has been slated for deletion there are other candidates both elected officials and those running for first time who have NOT BEEN marked for deletion.
*Response: It's true that there are tonnes of junk on here that need to be marked for deletion. Give me time to get around to it all! :-) Cheers! --NMChico24 11:49, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
Mr. Schuh is a noted authority nationally on health industry finance. I respectfully request that his bio with no political reference remain listed.
*Reponse: Then post your arguments to the AFD page. Your input will be reviewed before a decision is made on the article, and if you're persuasive enough, you might get people to change their minds. I've done it before. --NMChico24 11:49, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
