Distilled water is water that has virtually all of its impurities removed through distillation. Distillation involves boiling the water and re-condensing the steam into a clean container, leaving most contaminants behind.
This is a list of one-hit wonders in the United States whose one hit came out in the 2000s.
Applications
It is important to note that this list contains artists who reached the top 40 of the U.S. pop chart (Billboard Hot 100) with just one single, and had two or less albums on the top 40 of the album chart (Billboard 200). Artists included here have released two or more singles in the United States.

In chemical and biological laboratories, as well as industry, cheaper alternatives such as deionized water are preferred over distilled water. However, if these alternatives are not sufficiently pure, distilled water is used. Where exceptionally high purity water is required, double distilled water is used.
Distilled water is also commonly used to top up lead acid batteries used in cars and trucks. The presence of other ions commonly found in tap water will cause a drastic reduction in its lifespan.
Archetypal 2000s one-hit wonders
These are recording artists who fit the classic archetype of a one-hit wonder (i.e. a musician or band that comes out of nowhere to have one big hit, then just as suddenly either quits, breaks up or fades back into obscurity).
Distilled water is preferable to tap water for use in automotive cooling systems. The minerals and ions typically found in tap water can be corrosive to internal engine components, and can cause a more rapid depletion of the anti-corrosion additives found in most antifreeze formulations.

Using distilled water in steam irons for pressing clothes can help reduce mineral build-up and make the iron last longer. However, many iron manufacturers say that distilled water is no longer necessary in their irons.
Some people use distilled water for household aquariums because it lacks the chemicals found in tap water supplies. It is important to supplement distilled water when using it for fishkeeping; it is too pure to sustain proper chemistry to support an aquarium ecosystem.

Many beverage manufacturers use distilled water to ensure a drink's purity and taste. Bottled distilled water is sold as well, and can usually be found in supermarkets. Water purification, such as distillation, is especially important in regions where water resources or tap water is not suitable for ingesting without boiling or chemical treatment.
One-hit wonders that don't fit the rule
More than one hit album
Water filtration devices are common in many households. Most of these devices do not distill water, though there continues to be an increase in consumer-oriented water distillers and reverse osmosis machines being sold and used. Municipal water supplies often add or have trace impurities at levels which are regulated to be safe for consumption. Much of these additional impurities, such as volatile organic compounds, fluoride, and an estimated 75,000+ other chemical compounds are not removed through conventional filtration; however, distillation does eliminate nearly all of these impurities.
Some artists are considered one-hit wonders despite having more than one hit single or album. This is when a band or artist has only one song that becomes hugely popular and/or generate massive media coverage.
*"Back Here" by BBMak (Sooner or Later (#38) and Into Your Head (#25))
*"Gettin' Some" by Shawnna (Worth Tha Weight (#22) and Block Music (#13))
*"Maybe I Deserve" by Tank (Force of Nature (#7) and One Man (#20))
*"Miss Murder" by AFI (Sing The Sorrow (#5) and Decemberunderground (#1))
*"My Baby" by Lil' Romeo (Lil' Romeo (#6) and Game Time (#33))
*"Po' Folks" by Nappy Roots featuring Anthony Hamilton (Watermelon, Chicken & Gritz, and Wooden Leather (#12))
*"Who I Am" by Jessica Andrews (Who I Am (#22) and Now (#34))
Distilled water is also used as drinking water in arid seaside areas which do not have sufficient freshwater, by distilling seawater. It is quite common on ships, especially nuclear powered ships, which require a large supply of distilled water as coolant. The drinking water is produced in desalination plants, although it is very expensive due to the large amount of fuel needed to boil water. Alternative technologies like reverse osmosis are becoming increasingly important in this regard due to their greatly reduced costs.
Below Top 40
Some artists' one popular song missed the Top 40.
*"Breathe (2 AM)" by Anna Nalick (#45)
*"Like Wow" by Leslie Carter (#99)
*"My Neck, My Back (Lick It)" by Khia (#42)
*"Nothing Left To Lose" by Mat Kearney (#41)
Pros and cons
Non-archetypal 2000s one-hit wonders
The drinking of distilled water has been both advocated and discouraged for health reasons. The lack of naturally-occurring minerals in distilled water has raised some concerns.
Artists with one hit that are not considered one-hit wonders
Some artists with only one Top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, while they may be considered one-hit wonders by the public at large, are not necessarily one-hit wonders because of their distinguished careers within their own respective musical genres long before and/or after their one mainstream hit:
*"Miss Murder" by AFI (one of the leading artists of the San Fransisco Bay Area Hardcore scene of the 1990's. Have had other hits on rock specific charts)
*"Aaron's Party" (Come Get It) by Aaron Carter (launched an acting career and had other hits worldwide)
*"B.Y.O.B." by System of a Down (one of the biggest metal acts of the 2000's, including two #1 hits on the US Modern Rock chart. "B.Y.O.B." is still their only Top-40 hit)
*"Beautiful Soul" by Jesse McCartney (one of a successful teen idol)
*"Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol (had other hits on rock-specific charts)
*"Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley (a side project between producer Danger Mouse and single Cee-Lo)
*"Did My Time" by Korn (one the pioneers of the rap-rock and nu metal genres)
*"Drive" by Incubus (the song was off of the 1999 album Make Yourself, but did not chart until 2001. The band has also had a long string of top 10 hits on the Modern Rock chart, including the #1 Anna-Molly in 2006)
*"The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World (one of the pioneers of the emo sub-genre of alternative rock. Had other hits on rock specific charts including Sweetness, Bleed American, and Pain, the latter of which was a #1 hit on the US Modern Rock Chart.)
*"Feel Good Inc." by Gorillaz (not only successful on other charts since 2002, but is a project between Blur frontman Damon Albarn, cartoonist Jamie Hewlett, the afformentioned Danger Mouse, various musicians - including Tina Weymouth and Chris Franz of Talking Heads - and others. This song also features a guest apperence by rap act De La Soul, who had a successful string of hits in the early '90's)
*"Heaven" by Los Lonely Boys (has had several hits on the mainstream rock charts)
*"I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack with Sons of the Desert (both Womack and Sons of the Desert had many other country hits; this was the most successful crossover for either artist, however)
*"No Letting Go" by Wayne Wonder (has had other hits internationally since the late 1980's)
*"Ocean Avenue by Yellowcard (Their song "Lights and Sounds" received attention in a Vcast commercial even though it wasn't a hit. They also had moderate hits with "Only One", and "Way Away" from their 'Ocean Avenue' album.)
*"Never Had a Dream Come True" by S Club 7 (only American hit (despite a TV show on Fox), hugely successful pop group in the U.K. before breaking up in 2003)
*"Ordinary People" by John Legend (winner of the 2006 Grammy for Best New Artist and success on R&B charts)
*"Rehab" by Amy Winehouse (Has had several hits in the United Kingdom)
*"The Remedy (I Won't Worry)" by Jason Mraz (has had several hits on the Adult Alternative charts and on college radio)
*"Stacy's Mom" by Fountains of Wayne (this band has had several hits on the Modern Rock charts and in England (where two other songs charted in 1996 and 1997) before and after the release of the song)
*"Swear It Again" by Westlife (only American hit, one of the biggest boy bands in the U.K.)
*"(There's Gotta Be) More to Life" by Stacie Orrico (has had a radio hit with "Stuck" and several Christian Rock hits)

The study concluded, "drinking water sources available to North Americans may contain high levels of Calcium, Magnesium, and Sodium and may provide clinically important portions of the recommended dietary intake of these minerals. Physicians should encourage patients to check the mineral content of their drinking water, whether tap or bottled, and choose water most appropriate for their needs." Since distilled water doesn't contain minerals, supplemental mineral intake through diet is needed to maintain proper health.
It is often observed that consumption of "hard" water, or water that has some minerals, may have beneficial cardiovascular effects. As noted in the American Journal of Epidemiology, consumption of hard drinking water is negatively correlated with atherosclerotic heart disease.<ref>{{Citation

Myths
A popular myth about distilled water is that it has the dangerous property of being more easily heated above its normal boiling point without actually boiling (as seen in "Mythbusters") in a process known as superheating. When superheated water is disturbed or has impurities added to it, a nucleation center for bubbles form. These bubbles are then new nucleation centers, and a sudden, explosive boiling can occur, possibly causing serious injury to those nearby. However, distilled water and tap water do not differ in their ease of or danger in being superheated. The dissolved impurities in motionless tap water do not present enough disturbance to inhibit superheating.
