The first Amigo Restaurant opened in [[Causeway Bay]] in the middle of the [[Hong Kong 1967 riots|1967 riots]]. It survived that traumatic time and went on to be wildly successful within its first year of operation. It then bought its own premises at [[Amigo Mansion]] in Happy Valley in [[1976]]. The mansion and the restaurant were designed and built together.
