I [[Minnesota Timberwolves]] lo selezionano come quinta scelta assoluta alle spalle di [[Allen Iverson]], [[Marcus Camby]], [[Shareef Abdur-Rahim]] e [[Stephon Marbury]]; i T'wolves sono però interessati in modo particolare al [[playmaker]] scelto dai [[Milwaukee Bucks]] Stephon Marbury: Allen viene così immediatamente girato ai Bucks insieme al [[pivot (pallacanestro)|pivot]] [[Andrew Lang (cestista)|Andrew Lang]].
