Carnival Cruise Lines (NYSE: CCL) is a cruise line operating a large number of cruise ships. It originally was an independent company founded in 1972 by Ted Arison. It is now a branded division within Carnival Corporation & plc, a publicly traded company with Micky Arison as the Chairman. Carnival Corporation & plc owns a number of different cruise lines and has become the largest corporation in the cruise industry. Carnival was a pioneer in the concept of cheaper and shorter cruises. Its ships are known for their Las Vegas-style decor and entertainment. The line calls its ships The Fun Ships and there is a wide range of activities offered on board. Its trademark is the smoke stack, or funnel, which is red, white and blue and shaped like a whale's tail. The mascot for Carnival is "Fun Ship Freddy", a character in the shape of Carnival's distinctive funnel.

In 1996 the Carnival Destiny of 101,000 gross tons became the largest passenger ship in the world at the time. As of 2007, the latest and largest ship in the Carnival Fleet is the Carnival Freedom, a Conquest Class ship and Carnival's second ship to be based in Europe. The company announced three new ships in early 2007: the Carnival Splendor, to debut July 13, 2008, the Carnival Dream, set to debut in October 2009, and the Carnival Magic, set to debut in June 2011.

Thank you for your help with the disambiguation page Nomenclature. However, please don't change the link count when you move a page from the "To do" section to the "Done" section. We keep track of the original number of links to see how close we have come to completing the dump. Also, I noticed that there are still about 40 pages with links to nomenclature in the article namespace. We usually don't move a page to done when there are that many remaining, even though 42 is a lot less than 100. Even though this ship is actually a sister ship to all the ships in the Conquest Class, this ship is actually quite unique in the Carnival fleet, offering facilities other ships don't have. This is due to the fact that the ship was originally designed for Carnival's sister company Costa Cruises. Its inaugural voyage will be on 13 July 2008 from London (Dover), and will be Carnival's first of five voyages to Northern Europe.

Hurricane Katrina charters
Re Cultural mediation
Three of the Carnival cruise ships were chartered by the United States government for six months to serve as temporary housing in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The Holiday was originally docked in Mobile, Alabama and later Pascagoula, MS, and the Ecstasy and Sensation were docked at New Orleans, Louisiana. The six-month contract cost $236 million. The contract was widely criticized because the vessels were never fully utilized, and Carnival received more money than it would have earned by using the ships in their normal rotation. Carnival did not have the same fuel, entertainment, staffing, and other expenses they would have incurred had the ships been on their normal routes, but the line also did not receive revenues from on-board gambling, alcoholic beverages, and other product and service sales that would have been generated had the vessels been engaged in cruising.
Thanks for looking at the article. I was wondering if you could give specific advice on how to make the article conform with wikipedia standartds so I can get the tags removed. Important note. As a graduate student of Vygotsky, I have found that the birthday cake example is a very powerful way of explaining the theory of cultural mediation. Without it, most people under-estimate the power and all encompassing nature of cultural mediation. So I wopuld like to keep the example while mmeeting wiki standards. Hi ClicketyClack. I noticed you made a minor edit to Cathay Camera Club. I'm actually a member of this club. Can you tell me how I can stop the page being classed as a 'notability problem' ?
Hkrick 15:13, 25 March 2007 (GMT)
:Hello Hkrick, the best advice can be found in Wikipedia:Notability, including in some of the links on that page. I recently found this essay useful too.
:In a nutshell, articles need to cite reliable, external sources to demonstrate notability. For the CCC, this might include citations in the news, or in online histories, or some other source (I'm not a photographer myself, so you'd be the best judge of that) that demonstrates the club's notability in the photography world. Searching for "Cathay Camera Club" in several English-language search engines may be helpful with this.
:Bear in mind that the admins evaluating it for deletion are probably not photographers, and probably not from Hong Kong, so try to let the evidence require as little local or specialist knowledge as possible. Good luck! Clicketyclack 08:10, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Elementary School
I was just in the middle of creating a stub page for the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic School. It has taken me an hour or so. In the middle of my editing, you marked it with a "This article or section is written like an advertisement." Please point me to an elementary school article that doesn't sound like an advertisement. It's an elementary school, for crying out loud, not a government!<br>
I don't know whether you looked at the awards or not, but this is one of the top schools in the country. I know. They all say that. But it has made "the" lists during the years. I have moved around the country a LOT and this is the best I have ever seen.<br>
I think you should cut schools, particularly the lower grade ones, a little slack. I have worked with colleges and high schools and this is no worse, and in some ways a lot better than most of them. It is also (to tell the truth) more distinguished, relatively speaking, than most of them.<br>
If you're looking to pick on an article, try the United States Navy. They could use a little criticism! The US Navy has never done anything wrong! Try picking on those adults for awhile and see where it gets you!<br>
If your job as an admin requires you to bully grade school articles, I apologize! Student7 23:51, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

:Hello. I've edited it to make it sound less like an ad, and remove the advertising tag. By the way, what would you like to see changed on the US Navy page? Have you considered editing it yourself to improve it? Thanks, Clicketyclack 00:09, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

::Yes. You've improved it. Thanks.

::I still don't see what set you off, though. What set me off is I was in the middle of creating the article out of nothing. It was (and is) a stub. I have to take the info from somewheres. At this level and this subject, it's usually done from material that may well be advertising. I try to trim it down. While it may not have been enough, I still don't see why this article was singled out from among all the schools in the United States which sound pretty much the same.
