When Italy came under the direct control of the [[Holy Roman Empire]] in 962, Aleramo's titles were confirmed by the Emperor [[Otto I, Holy Roman Emperor|Otto I]].
 
He married Gerberga, a daughter of [[Berengar of Ivrea]], the last [[King of Italy]] before it was united with the [[Holy Roman Empire]]. They had two sons:
