The [[population density]] is 26/km&sup2; (66/mi&sup2;). There are 11,076 housing units at an average density of 10/km&sup2; (27/mi&sup2;). The racial makeup of the county is 97.97% [[Race (U.S. census)|White]], 0.86% [[Race (U.S. census)|Black]] or [[Race (U.S. census)|African American]], 0.27% [[Race (U.S. census)|Native American]], 0.16% [[Race (U.S. census)|Asian]], 0.00% [[Race (U.S. census)|Pacific Islander]], 0.16% from [[race (U.S. census)|other races]], and 0.58% from two or more races. 0.44% of the population are [[Race (U.S. census)|Hispanic]] or [[Race (U.S. census)|Latino]] of any race.

There are 10,205 households out of which 36.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.50% are married couples living together, 7.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.40% are non-families. 22.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.63 and the average family size is 3.08.

In the county the population is spread out with 27.30% under the age of 18, 7.40% from 18 to 24, 29.00% from 25 to 44, 23.90% from 45 to 64, and 12.40% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 99.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.30 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $44,209, and the median income for a family is $53,737. Males have a median income of $39,084 versus $23,996 for females. The per capita income for the county is $19,516. 7.40% of the population and 6.00% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 8.50% are under the age of 18 and 10.00% are 65 or older.
