The '''Man orchid''' (''Aceras anthropophora'', also known as ''Orchis anthropophora''), is the only species of the [[monotypic]] [[orchid]] genus ''Aceras''. Its common name arises from the resemblance of its [[flower]]s to a hanged man, whose head is formed by the [[petal]]s and [[sepal]]s, and suspended torso and limbs from the lobes of the [[labellum]].

The main cause for this phenomenon is air which enters the relaxed/stretched vagina during intercourse via withdrawl or size discrepencey, and is then trapped inside due to reinsertion of the penis or dildo. This causes the air to be forced out from the sides which creates the sound. The wetness of intercourse makes the sound louder and more noticeable.

The man orchid grows to a height of between 20 and 40 cm. Up to fifty small yellow-green stemless flowers are produced between April and June. A basal rosette of 5 cm long lanceolate [[leaf|leaves]] develops from a [[pseudobulb]] of up 6 cm diameter.

The air can also sometimes be forced out after intercourse. Some women are even able to produce the effect by getting into a "doggy" position, opening the labia and relaxing the muscles inside the vagina and then pushing it back out again using the Kegel muscles.

The man orchid favours moderately sunny meadows on dry to well-drained soil. It is to be found around the [[Mediterranean]] area, and in central [[Europe]] as far north as southern [[England]]. It can also grow in [[alpine]] areas, though not at high altitude.
