A founding member of the [[K-League]] in [[1983]], Bucheon SK have undergone several hardships during the years and have struggled to make a serious impact on Korean football.

Originally called ''Yukong Elephants'', the club has lifted the Championship on only one occasion in [[1989]].

At the end of [[1995]] the side moved from the [[Dongdaemun Stadium]] in [[Seoul]] to the Mok-dong stadium on the very western edge of Seoul, and renamed themselves ''Bucheon Yukong'' after the city of [[Bucheon]], only 10 miles from the Mok-dong stadium.
