Professor Newlands has held the Chair of [[Divinity]] at the [[University of Glasgow]] since 1986, before then he was a University Lecturer at the [[University of Cambridge]] and [[Dean (education)|Dean]] of [[Trinity Hall]]. Sometime Dean of the [[Faculty]] of [[Divinity]] and Head of the Department of [[Theology]] and Religious Studies, he is currently Principal of [[Trinity College, Glasgow]].
