Vijay started off in [[1992]] under his father's direction in the flop film ''Naalaya Theerpu''. As his father was a director, his entry into the industry wasnt tough at all, but sustaining himself and becoming a star was a challenge for him. He was in various flop and average ran movies before establishing himself as a star, with ''Poove Unakkaga''. In ''Once More'', he had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to act with [[Thespian Shivaji Ganesan]], which Vijay considers himself lucky for. Unfortunately, the film did poorly at the box office. In ''Naerukku Naer'', he acted under Vasanth's direction along with Surya, Simran, Kausalya, and others. Despite such a high profile production house, this film too did poorly. By now, Vijay was stuck with the low-budget star image.

==Becoming a star==

He was a native of [[Eguisheim]], Upper [[Alsace]]. The family to which he belonged was of noble rank, and through his father he was related to the emperor [[Conrad II]]. He was educated at [[Toul]], where he successively became [[canon (priest)|canon]] and, in [[1026]], [[bishop]]; in the latter capacity he rendered important political services to his relative Conrad II, and afterwards to [[Henry III, Holy Roman Emperor]], and at the same time he became widely known as an earnest and reforming ecclesiastic by the zeal he showed in spreading the rule of the order of [[Cluny]].

''Poove Unakkaga'' with Vikraman was a surprise hit and established Vijay as a bankable star, often considered second only to [[Ajith]]. Producers took notice of this man who was fast becoming a star to reckon with. ''Poove Unakkaga'' was a story about the feud between two religions - Hindu and Christians who were good friends first but became enemies due to the love between their children, and did well. Vijay had Sangeetha and Anju Arvind for company.

''Thullatha Manamum Thullum'' was another movie where he paired with Simran, and caused the pairing of Vijay-Simran to became a regular event. This movie also had Dhamu, Balaji, Vaiyapuri, and other well-known actors. Then came movies like ''Ninaithen Vandhai'', where he acted with Rambha and Deiyavani, and were flops. Again he had a downslide when his movies like ''Nenjinile'' and ''Minsara Kanna'' bit the dust.

On the death of [[Pope Damasus II]], Bruno was selected his successor by an assembly at [[Worms, Germany|Worms]] in December [[1048]]. Both the emperor and the Roman delegates concurred. However, Bruno apparently favored democracy as a means of Papal election, as he stipulated as a condition of his acceptance that he should first proceed to Rome and be canonically elected by the voice of clergy and people. Setting out shortly after Christmas, he met with abbot [[Hugo of Cluny]] at [[Besancon]], where he was joined by the young monk Hildebrand, who afterwards became [[Pope Gregory VII]]; arriving in pilgrim garb at Rome in the following February, he was received with much cordiality, and at his consecration assumed the name of Leo IX.

But just then, SJ Suryah came up with another turning point for Vijay with the hit ''Kushi'', which changed the career graph of Vijay. This movie played continually for over 100 days in some theatres. Vijay was paired up in this movie with Jyothika, who also became a star with Kushi, and their pairing was one of the highlights of this highly successful movie. The songs of this movie were a hit, and the song "Katipudida" with Vijay and sex bomb Mumtaj was considered to "hog the limelight for all the wrong reasons", with the song being too vulgar for the screen. The song had lot of cuts and was made passive later, but Mumtaz was made to be a star with this song from Kushi. This film was marketed as a soft porn A-film in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala.

Leo IX favored traditional morality in his reformation of the Catholic Church. One of his first public acts was to hold the well-known [[Easter]] synod of [[1049]], at which celibacy of the clergy (down to the rank of [[subdeacon]]) was required anew. Also, the Easter synod was where Leo IX at least succeeded in making clear his own convictions against every kind of [[simony]]. The greater part of the year that followed was occupied in one of those progresses through [[Italy]], [[Germany]], and [[France]] which form a marked feature in Leo's pontificate. After presiding over a synod at [[Pavia]], he joined Henry III in [[Saxony]], and accompanied him to [[Cologne]] and [[Aix-la-Chapelle]]; to [[Reims]] he also summoned a meeting of the higher clergy, by which several important reforming decrees were passed. At [[Mainz]] also he held a council, at which the Italian and French as well as the German clergy were represented, and ambassadors of the Greek emperor were present; here too simony and the marriage of the clergy were the principal matters dealt with.

''Priyamanavale'' had Vijay again pairing with Simran. This movie had a then vulgar peculiar subject of an agreement marriage where the hero gets into wedlock, on the agreement of being with his wife for one year, and then having the option of divorcing her if he didn't find the marriage to be interesting. Simran and Vijay had another successful pairing in this movie and were regarded as having terrific chemistry between them. The comedy between Vijay and Vivek was at its comic best in this movie.

After his return to Rome he held ([[April 29]], [[1050]]) another [[Easter]] synod, which was occupied largely with the controversy about the teachings of [[Berengar of Tours]]; in the same year he presided over provincial synods at [[Salerno]], [[Siponto]], and [[Vercelli]], and in September revisited Germany, returning to Rome in time for a third Easter synod, at which the question of the reordination of those who had been ordained by simonists was considered.

''Badhri'' had Vijay playing a carefree youth who later becomes a kick boxer, due to his brother's failure at kick boxing. Vijay had taken a lot of risks in the stunts of the film, such as where he has a car run over his fingers, the stunt master break marble over his stomach, and other dangerous activities. He was paired with Bhoomika and Monal (sister of Simran who committed suicide a few years back after an affair with Vijay's cousin brother Vikranth). However, the movie was a flop. In '''Friends''', he had acted with current popular hero Surya. However, this was followed by several consecutive flops like ''Shajahan'', ''Thamizhan'', ''Youth'', ''Bagavathy'', ''Vaseegara'' and ''Pudhiya Geethai'', that brought heavy loss to the producers. ''Thamizhan'' alone is said to have driven noted producer G. Venkateswaran into suicide with debts amounting to Rs7 crores.

In [[1052]] he joined the emperor at [[Bratislava]] (Pressburg), and vainly sought to secure the submission of the [[Hungary|Hungarians]]; and at [[Regensburg]], [[Bamberg]], and [[Worms]] the papal presence was marked by various ecclesiastical solemnities.

Then came his next turning point - ''THIRUMALAI''. Thirumalai breathed a fresh lease of life into Vijay's career. Produced by Kavithalaya productions, who had just produced the Vikram blockbuster Saamy, Thirumalai was a average movie which again established Vijay as an also-ran star. Thirumalai was directed by Ramana, a newcomer director and Vijay was once again paired with his successful 'Kushi' heroine Jyothika. The songs from this film are said to have made the audience stand up and dance. This was follwed by the biggest flop of his career - ''Udaya'', which did not run even for two weeks.

Unthinkably for popes of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, Leo IX went to war with other countries. After a fourth Easter synod in [[1053]] Leo set out against the [[Normans]] in the south with an army of Italians and German volunteers, but his forces sustained a total defeat at the [[Battle of Civitate]] on [[June 15]], [[1053]]; on going out, however, from the city to meet the enemy he was received with every token of submission, relief from the pressure of his ban was implored and fidelity and homage were sworn. From June [[1053]] to March [[1054]] he was nevertheless detained at [[Benevento]] in honourable captivity; he did not long survive his return to Rome, where he died on [[April 19]], [[1054]].

Then came another average film, ''GHILLI''! Directed by Dharani, who has given blockbusters like Dhill and Dhool, Ghilli was a masala tale of a kabaddi player who rescues a sexy girl from the trap of a Don in Madurai, who is hell bent on marrying her. Trisha was paired with Vijay for the first time. After this film, he started a new affair with Trisha, but she was not interested in him. As retribution, he caught her bathing naked on video and published it on the Internet. She filed a criminal case against him, which is awaiting judgement next year.

Vijay then had a series of flops, like ''Madurey'' and ''Sachin''. In ''Madurey'', he played a vegetable vendor and a collector, and was paired with a timid actress Sonia Agarwal and sex bomb Rakshita in. His latest movie is ''Sachin'', whose cast includes ''Boys'' fame Harini (Genelia de Souza) and dark skinned sex bomb Bipasha Basu, but it again did poorly.

Vijay is now acting in ''Sivakasi'', directed by his Thirupachi director Perarasu. Sivakasi is produced by AM Rathnam and stars Asin with Vijay for the first time. Sex bomb Nayanthara makes a cameo appearence in a song. ''Sivakasi'' is a make or break film for him. It has been given A-certificate which should please front benchers.
