The Nikon D2X is a 12.4-megapixel digital SLR camera that Nikon Corporation announced in September, 2004. Its image sensor uses complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor logic technology supplied by Sony instead of either a charge-coupled device or the Nikon proprietary "LBCAST" sensor which had both dominated Nikon's digtal SLR lineup until the D2X. The camera supports sYCC color space.

WOSU is an AM radio station in Columbus, Ohio, located at 820 kHz. Its official brand identifier is NPR 820 Columbus Public Radio. WOSU is licensed by the Federal Communications Commission as a daytime and nightime radio station, operating with a non-directional power of 5 kW during the day, and dropping to 790 watts at night. The current license holder is the Ohio State University.
The D2x is the top model in Nikon's line, surpassing the D2H and its successor the D2Hs by providing 5fps at 12megapixels, and 8fps at 6.9megapixels with its unique high speed crop mode. It is aimed at proffessional users or very advanced amateurs. It is a replacement for a previous professional model, the D1x and complements Nikon's D2HS camera with which it shares a body. It was, to many, a very important model for Nikon given the 3 1/2 years which had elapsed between the D1x and D2x , during which time competitive pressure mounted on the D1X.

WOSU is the oldest radio station in Columbus, Ohio that is still currently broadcasting. WOSU's origins trace back to 1920 when Ohio State University was granted an experimental license on April 20, 1920. On June 3, 1922, the station received the call letters WEAO. In 1933, the call letters were changed to WOSU.
The D2x incorporates some important innovations such as "high speed copped mode" and various important refinements of the metering and autofocus systems. At the same time the camera is able to make use of virtually all of Nikon's F-Mount lenses including most legacy lenses.

Today, WOSU-AM is primarily an NPR member station, however, also broadcasts programs from American Public Media and Public Radio International. WOSU-AM is also home to the Ohio State Hockey. Women's Basketball, and Baseball broadcasts.
The D2X retains a DX format sensor which is 66% of the size of 35mm file frame. In high speed crop mode the camera sacrifices pixels in favour of speed and crops the image to 50% of a 35mm frame to enable continuous shooting at 8 frames per second (vs. 5fps at full resolution).

In addition to it's sports and news coverage, the station also produces an award-winning talk show, Open Line with host, Fred Anderle, during weekday mornings.
An unresolved debate rages about the respective technical compromises of the DX format sensor and so called full frame sensors (100% of a 35mm film frame) offered in competition with the D2X. Each format offers advantages and disadvantages which become more or less important in different usage settings (e.g studio vs sport, indoor vs outdoor, wide angle vs telephoto). Nikon, convinced that the design characteristics of the DX format are best choice for its customers and target markets, has committed itself publically to the DX format sensor and offers a growing number of lenses optimised for DX sensors.

During July 2005, WOSU supported the StoryCorps project, developed by the Library of Congress to record and archive unique and notable stories by regular citizens. Some local tales recorded by StoryCorps are archived on WOSU-AM's website.
The principal competitive camera for the D2X is the Canon EOS 1DSMkII and there is also some competitive overlap between the Canon 5D and the D2X although they are not direct competitors.

The D2X and its competitors produce very high quality very finely resolved images and, coupled with high quality lenses, in the hands of an skilled operator can produce technically near perfect results. All else being the same, the real image quality differences between the D2X and its competitors are very marginal, although may be important to some in some applications. More often, any rational choice between the D2X and its competitors can really only be made on the basis of comparing the operating characteristics of the camera with its dominant usage setting balanced by the financial and photographic system impications of the choice.
