The Apprentice: Martha Stewart is the first spin-off from the American reality television series The Apprentice. The series premiered on September 21, 2005. The show is broadcast on NBC and is hosted by business tycoon Martha Stewart. The format of the show is tailored to suit Stewart's personality and brand identity. The tasks are centered around Stewart's areas of expertise: media, culinary arts, entertaining, decorating, crafts, design, merchandising, and style. Stewart brings her own sensibilities and creativity to the elimination process. Sometimes, but not always, she uses her catchphrase: "Good-bye." This is her equivalent to Donald Trump's catchphrase: "You're fired."
The following is a timeline of the 2005 French civil unrest that began Thursday, October 27, 2005. Where the source lists events as occuring in a night and following morning, this article lists them on the date of the night, not the following morning. The extent table in the main article does the opposite.
Earlier reports however frequently reported incorrectly that her phrase was "You just don't fit in" but this turned out to only be a commentary on the first eliminated contestant. She also writes a cordial letter to the candidate who is fired. Although the letter is designed to give comfort, many times she takes subtle jabs at the fired candidate and gives frank reasons for why the candidate did not succeed on the show.

Donald Trump and Mark Burnett are executive producers for the show. Businessman Charles Koppelman and Stewart's daughter, Alexis Stewart, are Martha Stewart's eyes and ears. They closely watch the two teams throught the week and report their observations to Stewart.
<!-- Discuss in Discussion first to justify putting this back. * Wendesday October 21 - French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy announced a crackdown on urban violence and black marketeers on Wednesday, ordering specially trained police to tackle 25 tough neighbourhoods across the country. Sarkozy, who has clearly stated his ambition to run for president in 2007, also announced plans to combat violence in football stadiums, including greater use of video surveillance and bans on hooligans caught on film. "This ... is a totally new strategy to push back urban violence and make life possible in a certain number of neighbourhoods where trafficking and the underground economy have infected daily life," Sarkozy said at the launch of his new initiative. "We absolutely have to re-establish a foothold in these neighbourhoods and obtain results," he said. -->

First week
The two teams are called Matchstick and Primarius.
* Thursday, October 27 - 1st night of rioting
** Gangs, mostly consisting of hundreds of youths, clashed with police, throwing rocks and Molotov cocktails at police forces and firefighters, setting cars on fire, and vandalizing buildings. A shot was reportedly fired at police.
** Police fired tear gas at the rioters. About 27 people were detained. 17 police officers and 3 journalists were wounded. The number of rioters and bystanders injured is not known.<br>

The show's theme song is "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" by the Eurythmics.
* Friday, October 28 - 2nd night of rioting
** Rioters in Clichy-sous-Bois apparently set more than 30 cars alight and made barricades of those cars, along with dustbins, which firefighters worked to clear away.
** At least 200 riot police and crowds of young rioters clashed in on-and-off, running battles, on the night of the 28th and the early morning of the 29th.

Despite the fairly big initial hype, ratings for this spinoff have been nothing short of weak. This show averages only 7 million viewers, and garners a mediocre 2.5 average in the very important demographic of 18-49 year old viewers. However, it should be noted that this program airs against very tough competition, including ABC's massive hit Lost. There have been numerous reasons thrown out as to why this show isn't doing as well as expected, including: "too much" Martha (daytime program and primetime), confusion between this version and Trump's version which airs the day after (on Thursday nights), and weak casting. Due to these factors, it is unlikely that this program will make it back for a second season, although NBC does have the option of bringing it back to air for Season #2 during the relatively slow summer TV season.
* Saturday, October 29 - 3rd night of rioting
** About 500 people took part in a silent march through Clichy-sous-Bois, in memory of the teenagers. Representatives of the Muslim community appealed for calm and dignity at the procession. Marchers wore t-shirts printed with the message mort pour rien <!-- sic, the singular--> "dead for nothing".

Candidates
* Sunday, October 30 - 4th night of rioting
See: The Apprentice: Martha Stewart Candidates
** A tear gas grenade was launched into the mosque of the Cité des Bousquets, on what for Muslims is the holiest night of the holy month of Ramadan. Police denied responsibility but acknowledged that it was the same type used by French riot police. Speaking to 170 police officers at Seine-Saint-Denis prefecture in Bobigny (the local authority overseeing Clichy-sous-Bois), Nicolas Sarkozy said, "I am, of course, available to the Imam of the Clichy mosque to let him have all the details in order to understand how and why a tear gas bomb was sent into this mosque." Eyewitnesses also reported that police called women emerging from the mosque "whores" and other names .
