==We're all in this together - or not==

With thousands of competent writers who are perfectly willing to follow project norms, I see no reason to spend time rehabilitating miscreants. Just give them a choice of adhering to policy or leave. All must adhere to policy: bureaucrats, admins, users, IP's. The policies are designed to facilitate the organization and presentation of human knowledge for the benefit of all humankind. Those who want to help with this are welcome here, the rest can leave. [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:UninvitedCompany&curid=2474816&diff=21365544&oldid=21342682]

==My statement to the community==

Well, I've finally come to a decision. It's been hard, but I have had a lot of help. Many people spent long hours in IRC dialogue with me to help me understand the direction I need to go.

Then it took me quite some time to get myself actually attuned to this new direction. I've had some false starts, but I think I've finally settled into the new course.

Wikipedia is a flourishing democracy, so there is no place for people who flout the rules. I agree with this, and I shall from now on conduct myself as a model citizen - with or without 'crat or 'op rights. My devotion is equally to the project and the process.

I will no longer do zany or arrogant things like delete a major project page or defy consensus on a vote. Nor will I claim a right to "decide" such things; when it's close I will consult the others, abide by the consensus and let others make the final move.

But I'm also making this pledge unconditionally. I'm not going to run off and hide somewhere if the arbitration process results in an adverse decision. I must respect the process as well as the outcome, and I fully intend to do so.

[[user talk:Ed Poor|Leave me a message]]. I usually answer pretty quickly.

I've been [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Another_list_of_Wikipedians_in_order_of_arrival#November_2001 here since November 2001], and I can't quit or I get deluged with e-mails begging me to come back.

I helped establish the Mediation and Arbitration committees;
I set the precedent that Developers don't grant themselves admin or bureaucrat rights but run for election like anybody else;
and I am unquestionably Wikipedia's leading exponent of [[Wikipedia:NPOV]].

:Note: this doesn't mean all my contributions are ''de facto'' neutral. I'm sloppy and careless just as often as the next man, and I '''really appreciate''' your help correcting my errors of neutrality and accuracy.

Over the years, I've collected innumerable messages of thanks and support. I tend to archive these rather than show them off. But I keep them in my heart.
