Evesham Township is a township located in Burlington County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 42,275.
Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport SRQ is located in both Sarasota, Florida (terminal) and Bradenton, Florida (airfield). Part of the airfield is in Manatee County and part in Sarasota County. Most airlines refer to the airport on destination maps and flight status displays as just "Sarasota", as that is the larger and more widely known city. The airport is usually referred to locally as "SRQ" (the airport code).
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 76.9 km² (29.7 mi²). 76.5 km² (29.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.57% water.
Financial Troubles
Evesham Township borders Mount Laurel Township, Medford Township, and Camden County.
The airport was in financial probems after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, as people were weary about flying, and 2 airlines servicing SRQ went bankrupt, Canada 3000 and Canadian Airlines. But in 2003, Airways decided to begin service, as a nationwide poll chose Sarasota/Bradenton as one of the top ariports that they would like AirTran to add. AirTran added service to Atlanta, and Baltimore, and now they have added 3 more destinations since then. AirTran has arguably revitalized the airport. Also in 2003, international service was resumed, with Canadian airlines CanJet (and the later defunct Jetsgo) providing seasonal service out of SRQ.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 42,275 people, 15,712 households, and 11,344 families residing in the township. The population density is 552.6/km² (1,431.1/mi²). There are 16,324 housing units at an average density of 213.4/km² (552.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 91.26% White, 3.11% African American, 0.07% Native American, 4.07% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.48% from other races, and 0.99% from two or more races. 1.96% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
It is unclear whether the bankruptcy filings of Delta Air Lines (the main carrier out of SRQ) will affect the airport in the near future.
There are 15,712 households out of which 38.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.2% are married couples living together, 8.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.8% are non-families. 22.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The area now known as Evesham Township was originally settled by Quakers in 1672. The Township was named either for the town of the same name in England, or for prominent English settler Thomas Eves. The township was divided twice, once in 1847, and again in 1872. These splits formed Medford and Mount Laurel, respectively. Full-time police services began in 1966. The current form of government, a council-manager system, was established in 1969.
Commuter Gates - (D Gates)
In 1955, the United States Army opened the PH-32 Nike Zuess facility on Tomlinson Mill Road. This battery was one of twelve used to shield Philadelphia from aerial assault during the Cold War. The base was decommissioned in the mid-60s and used for various functions, including a civil defense center.

Politics
The township is run by a mayor and town council, which are chosen through non-partisan elections. As of the 2004 elections, these were filled by Mayor Augustus (Gus) Tamburro, Deputy Mayor Kenneth D'Andrea, Councilman Salvatore Cardillo, Councilman Jud Hanlon, and Councilwoman Jamie Montgomery. After Montgomery stepped down unexpectantly in September, 2005, a special election was held on November 8, 2005 to occupy the open seat. School board president Bonnie Olt defeated Camden police lieutenant Mike Lynch and will complete Montgomery's term.
Marlton CDP
Within Evesham is the census-designated place (CDP), Marlton. Likely due to the influence of the local post office (which is within the CDP), the name of the CDP is often used in place of the township's name, even when referring to locations beyond the boundaries of the CDP.
