Swans usually mate for life, though "divorce" does sometimes occur, particularly following nesting failure or the death of a partner (this can be due to 'capsizing': overturned swans lack the ability to right themselves and therefore drown). The number of eggs in each clutch varies both within and among swan species, typically between 3&ndash;8 eggs.

Young swans are known as cygnets, from the Latin word for swan, cygnus. The male and female adults are known as cob and pen.
Franchise History
The Celtics were formed in 1946 as a team in the Basketball Association of America. After the merger of the BAA and the National Basketball League to form the National Basketball Association, the Celtics acquired rookie Bill Russell in 1956. Russell had an immediate impact; that year, the Celtics advanced to the NBA Finals and defeated the then St. Louis Hawks in seven games, giving the Celtics the first of a record 16 NBA Championships. In 1957, the Celtics again advanced to the NBA Finals, this time losing to the Hawks in 6 games. However, with the acquisition of K.C. Jones, the Celtics began a dynasty that would last 8 seasons.

The Northern Hemisphere species of swan all have pure white plumage, but the Southern Hemisphere species are all patterned with various amounts of black. The Australian Black Swan (Cygnus atratus) is black all over except for the white flight feathers on its wings, and the South American Black-necked Swan has, as its name suggests, a black neck; finally, the Coscoroba Swan, also from southern South America, has black tips to the primary feathers.
In 1959, with Russell and Jones, the Celtics won the NBA Championship with the sweep of the Minneapolis Lakers. Under coach Red Auerbach, the Celtics won another seven championships for eight championships in a row. During that timespan, the Celtics met the Lakers in the Finals six times, starting an intense- and sometimes bitter- rivalry. The Celtics would eventually meet the Lakers a total of 10 times in the NBA Finals. After the 1966 championship, though, Auerbach retired. Russell took over as a player and coach. However, that year the Celtics' string of NBA titles was broken. The aging team managed two more championships, though, in 1968 and 1969, each against the Lakers in the NBA Finals. Russell retired after the 1969 season, effectively ending a dominant Celtics dynasty that had garnered 11 NBA titles. The streak of 8 consecutive NBA championships is the longest streak of consecutive championships in U.S. sports history.

The legs of all swans are dark blackish grey, except for the two South American species, which have pink legs. Bill colour varies rather more; the three far northern species have black bills with varying amounts of yellow, and all the others varyingly patterned red and black. The Mute Swan and Black-necked Swan have a lump at the base of the bill on the upper mandible.
The next season was one of rebuilding as the Celtics had their first losing record in a long time. However, with Dave Cowens, Paul Silas, and Jo Jo White, the Celtics became dominant again. In 1974 the team bested the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Finals, and in 1976 the team won yet another championship after defeating the Phoenix Suns. After the 1976 victory, though, Boston went into another phase of rebuilding.

Species of swan
The rebuilding phase only lasted two years. With the acquisition of NBA legend Larry Bird, Robert Parish, and Kevin McHale, the Celtics yet again became a dominant team in the NBA, playing in 5 NBA Finals in the 1980s. The team won a title in 1981, and the following year K.C. Jones was named head coach. Jones led the Celtics to four consecutive NBA Finals appearances against the Lakers and the Houston Rockets between 1984 and 1987, winning championships in 1984 and 1986. The three Finals where the Celtics played the Lakers featured the matchup of Bird versus NBA great Magic Johnson.

Genus Cygnus <small>Bechstein 1803</small>
After the retirement of Bird, the Celtics yet again went into rebuilding. In 1994 the Celtics moved from the Boston Garden into the Fleet Center. Under current general manager Danny Ainge and coach Doc Rivers, the Celtics won the division championship in the 2004-2005 season, but lost to the Indiana Pacers in game 7 in the postseason. As of 2005 the Celtics are the only team in NBA history to have never lost a Game 7 in the NBA Finals. They are a perfect 7-0 in these games, winning in 1957, 1960, 1962, 1966, 1969, 1974, and 1984.
*Whooper Swan, Cygnus cygnus breeds in Iceland and subarctic Europe and Asia, migrating to temperate Europe and Asia in winter. Whooper Swan is Finland`s national bird.
*Trumpeter Swan, Cygnus buccinator is a North American species very similar to the Whooper Swan (and sometimes treated as a subspecies of it), which was hunted almost to extinction but has since recovered: it is one of the heaviest flying animals, at up to 17 kilograms (38 pounds).
*Whistling Swan, Cygnus columbianus is a relatively small swan which breeds on the North American tundra, further north than other swans. It winters in the USA.
*Bewick's Swan, Cygnus bewickii is the Eurasian form which migrates from Arctic Russia to western Europe and eastern Asia (China, Japan) in winter. The reserves of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and of the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust in Britain are important for Bewick's and Whooper Swans. It is often considered a subspecies of C. columbianus, creating the species Tundra Swan.
*Black Swan, Cygnus atratus of Australia, and introduced in New Zealand. The Black Swan is the official state emblem of Western Australia, and is also the symbol of the Sydney beachside suburb of Dee Why.
**New Zealand Swan, Cygnus atratus sumnerensis StatusPrehistoric
*Black-necked Swan, Cygnus melancoryphus of South America, formerly Sthenelides melanocorypha.
*Mute Swan, Cygnus olor, is a common temperate Eurasian species, often semi-domesticated; descendants of domestic flocks are naturalized in the United States and elsewhere.

Historical Rivalries
*Coscoroba Swan, Coscoroba coscoroba, also of South America
The Boston Celtics have had a longstanding rivalry, especially throughout the 80s, with the Los Angeles Lakers. At the height of the rivalry, the Lakers and Celtics would win 8 NBA Championships in the decade (The Lakers won 5 while the Celtics won 3), and would play each other in the NBA Finals 3 different times. The rivalry was cooled off as the Celtics slipped into mediocrity in the 90s, but Lakers-Celtics is considered by many NBA fans to be the league's greatest rivalry. The Celtics also have historical ties with the Philadelphia 76ers, who played with the Celtics in tense playoff series in the 60s and 80s.

Trivia
Not to be forgotten:
*Swans are revered in many religions and cultures, especially Hinduism. The Sanskrit word for swan is hamsa or hansa, and it is the vehicle of many deities like the goddess Saraswati. It is mentioned several times in the Vedic literature, and some swans have also been said to have the knowledge of the Supreme Being Brahman. They are said to reside in the summers in the Manasarovar lake and migrate to Indian lakes for the winter, eat pearls, and separate milk from water in a mixture of both. Hindu iconography typically shows the Mute Swan. It is wrongly supposed by many Historians that the word hamsa only means a goose, since today swans are no more found in India, not even in most zoos. However, ornithological checklists like this clearly classify several species of swans as vagrant birds in India.
*Danny Ainge
*It is almost a taboo to kill a swan in some countries since they had been used as a symbols or weapon insignia for important families (England for example has a written law against killing swans), if a swan was deliberately killed that perpetrator will be seriously prosecuted.
*Don Chaney
*In the Greek mythology epic Helen of Troy. Helen is half swan half human due to that her parents was an union of a swan ([Zeus] in swan disguise) and a human female. Helen is said to be so beautiful that she was the reason a 10 year long siege war started in Troy.
*Paul Silas
*One Chinese idiom about swan is "You are a scoundrel who wants to eat swan meat!" . This idiom refer to people who are rude and ask/demand a reward they shouldn't deserve.
