Translated from German to mean ''Captain Englishman'' (Possibly a reference to fellow superhero [[Captain England]]), Hauptmann Englande is a representative for an alternate Earth called ''Earth 597'' for the [[Captain Britain Corps]].
Earth 597 is an alternate Earth where the Nazis have won the Second World War, and Hauptmann Englande is the leader of the Lightning Squad, his worlds' equivalent of ''[[Excalibur]]''.
== Causes of the War ==
In 1938, Slovak leaders succeeded in gaining autonomy for Slovakia. This came about after the dictator of Nazi Germany, Adolf Hitler, had annexed Czechoslovakia's western border regions, which were largely inhabited by ethnic Germans. Jozef Tiso, a Roman Catholic priest turned politician, became prime minister of the Slovak state. The part of Ruthenia with an ethnic Hungarian population was transferred to Hungary which infuriated Hungary who believed that Ruthenia was a possesion.
== War! ==
The Slovak state was well protected by Nazi forces. Even though Hungary knew this, they still would not allow Nazi forces control of Ruthenia. Hungary sent in a small amount of forces to settle the situation. Hungarian forces were met with a combination of Nazi forces and Slovak forces which quickly repelled Hungarian attempts to recapture Ruthenia. After several more attempts to reclaim Ruthenia, Hungarian forces finally accepted defeat.
== Aftermath ==
In 1939, Hitler incorporated Bohemia and Moravia into Germany and allowed Slovakia to become an independent country under German protection. When World War Two broke out in 1939, following Hitler's invasion of Poland, Slovakia was forced to become a military ally of Germany.
