'''The Wikipedia Signpost has [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost/2010-03-15/Dispatches|an article]] on GA Sweeps, explaining its origins, purpose, and achievements. There are no plans to repeat the process.'''
In order to raise and uphold the quality of Good articles, we need to ensure that articles tagged and listed as Good articles meet the criteria. The easiest possible way to do this, in my opinion, is a long lost process of '''sweeping'''. Basically, take a sub-category at [[WP:GA]] and review the articles. Take appropriate action, as listed below, and mark the [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/sweep list|sweep list]] when that sub-cat is completed.

==Intro==
The integrity of [[WP:GA|Wikipedia's Good articles]] requires that all articles tagged and listed as Good articles meet the [[WP:WIAGA|criteria]]. The aim of this project is to "sweep" through the current good articles to check that they meet the criteria. To participate, pick a sub-category at [[WP:GA]] and review the articles; take appropriate action, as described below, and mark the [[WP:GAPQ/SL|sweeps list]] when reviews of the sub-category have been completed. Editor's contributions can be recorded [[WP:GAPQ/SR|here]].

Due to the fact that sweeps has not been conducted thoroughly before, we will be checking '''all listed articles''' in first round of sweeps. However, mathematics, physics, and chemistry articles will be reviewed by experts in those respective fields.

==Process==
[[File:GASweepsProgressPie.jpg|thumb|right|400px|Progress as of the end of February 2010]]
For this initial sweep, ''all'' Good articles listed need to be reviewed against all [[WP:WIAGA|GA criteria]]. Because everyday new GA are listed, we will be using [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Good_articles&oldid=153815416 thislisted editbefore version26 August 2007] asneed theto establishedbe versionreviewed whereagainst the Sweeps[[WP:WIAGA|GA will be based oncriteria]].
#Choose a sub-category on the [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/sweep list|sweep list]].
#Choose articles from the '''[[Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force/Sweeps worklist|full list of articles left to review]]'''. Before reviewing double-check on the '''[[Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force/Sweeps/Running total|running total]]''' page if has already been reviewed or is currently on hold (also view the article's talk page to see if it already has been delisted, has become an FA, etc.).
#Tag the subcategory with {{tl|UnderReview}}.
#Start the review on the talk page of the article by adding <nowiki>{{subst:GAR}}</nowiki>. Save the page, and then follow the first bold link ("individual reassessment") to create the subpage for the review. Review the articlesarticle against the [[WP:WIAGA|criteria]] as you would an article listed at [[WP:GACGAN]] or [[WP:GA/RGAR]] and save.
#*If the article '''passes''' review, in {{tl|ArticleHistory}}, add an entry and classify the action as GAR kept.
#*If an article ''clearly'' fails to meet the criteria&mdash;which will be the case for many articles promoted prior to the creation of criteria in 2006&mdash;[[WP:BOLD|boldly]] delist the article by removing it from [[WP:GA]] and leave a message on the article talk page using {{tl|GABoldDelist}} with a detailed list of issues below it.
#*If an article '''fails''' to meet the criteria, list what issues need to be addressed on the subpage. Leave a message on the talk pages of the main contributors of the article (using [http://vs.aka-online.de/cgi-bin/wppagehiststat.pl this tool]), the GAN nominator (check the article history), as well as any related WikiProjects. Give editors enough time to respond to the issues (usually a week), and if progress is being made, consider extending the deadline.
#*If the article is questionable or appears to fail, but you are not comfortable delisting it, nominate it for review at [[WP:GA/R|Good article review]].
#**In the case of a clear failure to meet the criteria, remove the article from [[WP:GA]] and leave a message on the review subpage, using {{tls|GASweepsDelist}} with a detailed list of issues below it.
#*Minor issues which can easily be addressed should either be listed on the article talk page or boldly corrected during your review. Give editors seven days to address issues. Be sure to keep up with articles that are "put on hold" (so to speak, don't tag as on hold).
#**In the case of minor issues, or issues which can be easily addressed, try to fix as many problems as you can, list any remaining issues on the review subpage, then allow editors seven days to address them, as you would with "on hold" at GAN. Be sure to keep track of the article. You may find it helpful to use {{tls|GASweepsHold}}.
#*If the article passes review, update to the current oldid with an edit summary of <code>Updating oldid per [[[[Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force]]]]</code>.
#*If theyou articleare is'''unsure''' questionablewhether orthe appearsarticle tomeets the failcriteria, butor you are not comfortable delisting it, nominate it for community review at [[WP:GA/RGAR|Good article reviewreassessment]].
#Once you've completed a subcategory, update the <code>Last article quality sweep</code> field on the sweep list with your signature.
#If you have any questions about the process, leave a message on the talk page.
#Do your best, remain courteous with the articles' editors (they may have spent a lot of time working on the article and may not want to hear about changes you are recommending), and have fun reviewing!

===Talk page messages===
:''Participants list and progress found [[Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force/SweepsRunning_total|here]].''
Below are examples of messages that can be left on the article talk page. These are only example, each reviewer is free to customize their own messages, of course. However, be sure to include all relevant links, including the link to this page.
Considering the entire point of this task force is to improve and uphold the quality of Good articles, only experienced reviewers who are established (trusted) within the project should participate in this initial sweep. It is key that clearly substandard articles be weededremoved outfrom the GA list, while those that are almost there are improvedbrought up to current GA standards. The point is to target articles that have "fallen through the cracks", so we can't have any fall through the cracks a second time during this sweep.

If you are interested in helping, please leave a message on [[User talk:OhanaUnited|OhanaUnited's talk page]]. Keep in mind that we're looking for those individuals that have a very strong understanding of [[WP:WIAGA|good article criteria]] and all GA processes. We thank everyone for their interest, but only selected individuals will be invited to participate in the sweeps. Those who have participated can use {{tl|User GA sweeps}} on their user pages.

:This article has been reviewed as part of <nowiki>[[Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force]] in an effort to ensure all listed Good articles continue to meet the [[WP:WIAGA|Good article criteria]]. In reviewing the article, I have found there are some issues that may need to be addressed. [Insert detailed list of issues here.] I will check back in no less than seven days. If progress is being made and issues are addressed, the article will remain listed as a [[WP:GA|Good article]]. Otherwise, it may be delisted (such a decision may be challenged through [[WP:GA/R]]). If improved after it has been delisted, it may be nominated at [[WP:GAC]]. Feel free to drop a message on my talk page if you have any questions. Regards, ~~~~</nowiki>

==Awards==
Quality is the goal here. For that reason, awards will be given out based on the quality of reviews, not solely on quantity. What awards will be given out will not all be known until the sweep is completed. Reviews should be done for the betterment of the project and the encyclopedia, not for a star... But you'll still get a star (maybe something better) if you make a significant impact during the sweeps.
