Cena debuttò a [[WWE SmackDown|SmackDownǃ]] da [[face]] il 27 giugno 2002 accettando una sfida di [[Kurt Angle]], avendo dichiarato in quel momento di essere il wrestler più forte di [[WWE SmackDown|SmackDown]]. Cena perse il match, ma nel corso dello stesso lottò bene, uscendo anche da un tentativo di [[Body Slam#Olympic Slam|Olympic Slam]] e arrivando vicino alla vittoria.

Dopo questo match, Cena iniziò una rivalità con il più esperto [[Chris Jericho]], che culminò a [[Vengeance (2002)|Vengeance 2002]] con la sorprendente vittoria di Cena tramite roll-up. Questo fu l'inizio di una lunga serie di incontri che Cena vincerà in questo modo da "superman" e che lo porterà ad essere fischiato da una parte del pubblico.

Dopo WrestleMania, Cena presentò un nuovo tipo di cintura, rendendola una spinner belt, mentre JBL rubò la cintura originale, pretendendo una rivincita. A [[Judgment Day (2005)|Judgment Day]] Cena vinse contro JBL in un [[Tipi di match di wrestling#I quit match|I quit! match]] riprendendosi anche il vecchio titolo WWE diventando l'ultimo possessore del vecchio tipo di WWE Championship

Bischoff scelse [[Chris Jericho]] come spalla. Nel corso della [[Feud|faida]], anche se Cena ricoprì il ruolo del [[face]] e Jericho quello dell'[[Heel (wrestling)|heel]], una parte dei fan presenti iniziò a criticare Cena con cori ([[Terminologia del wrestling#H|heat]]), tutto questo perché ai fan non piacque il suo stile da ''underdog'' (ovvero un wrestler che si lascia dominare dall'avversario per gran parte del match con sporadiche reazioni). A causa di ciò i fan iniziarono a definire Cena un "supereroe" ma in senso dispregiativo, in quanto volevano sottolineare che nonostante nei suoi incontri Cena subisse di tutto con delle prestazioni che lasciavano a desiderare, alla fine ne usciva sempre vittorioso. Cena iniziò una faida interbrand per determinare il cosiddetto "Champion of Champions". Cena, e gli allora campioni di [[WWE SmackDown|SmackDown]] [[Booker T|King Booker]] e della [[Extreme Championship Wrestling|ECW]] [[Big Show]], si sfidarono ad un [[Tipi di match di wrestling#Triple Threat match|Triple Threat Match]] a [[WWE Cyber Sunday#2006|Cyber Sunday]], con la possibilità per i tifosi di votare quale dei tre titoli sarebbe stato messo in palio. La scelta ricadde sul [[World Heavyweight Championship (WWE)|World Heavyweight Championship]], ma King Booker riuscì a conservare il titolo e ad ottenere il riconoscimento di campione dei campioni. Nonostante l'infortunio, Cena riuscì a terminare l'incontro e solo nella giornata successiva i medici compresero l'effettiva entità del danno. Nella puntata successiva di Raw "Viewer's Choice", Cena riceve un brutale assalto dai Rookie di NXT durante il suo match contro [[CM Punk]]. Al PPV [[WWE Fatal 4-Way]] perde il [[WWE World Heavyweight Championship|WWE Championship]] in un Fatal 4-Way Match a causa dell'interferenza dei rookies di NXT che attaccano i partecipanti del match e a vincere è [[Sheamus]] che riesce ad approfittare della situazione; nella contesa erano coinvolti anche [[Adam Copeland|Edge]] e [[Randy Orton]]. Al PPV successivo, [[WWE Money in the Bank 2010|Money in the Bank]], John Cena ottiene il suo rematch contro il guerriero celtico in uno [[Tipi di match di wrestling#Steel Cage match|Steel Cage Match]]. A vincere è Sheamus per via di una nuova interferenza dei rookies di NXT (denominati [[The Nexus (wrestling)|Nexus]]) i quali dopo il match vengono attaccati da Cena, che dichiara guerra al [[The Nexus (wrestling)|Nexus]] creando un team di 7 stelle di Raw, composto da [[Adam Copeland|Edge]], [[Chris Jericho]], [[John Hennigan|John Morrison]], [[Dalip Singh|The Great Khali]], [[Ron Killings|R-Truth]] e [[Bret Hart]], che sfida a [[WWE SummerSlam 2010|SummerSlam]] il Nexus in un 7 vs 7 Elimination Tag Team Match. Dopo l'attacco del Nexus a Khali, questi viene sostituito da [[Bryan Danielson|Daniel Bryan]]. A Summerslam il team WWE sconfigge il Nexus con John Cena che rimane l'unico superstite della squadra eliminando gli ultimi rimasti che erano rispettivamente Justin Gabriel e [[Stu Bennett|Wade Barrett]]. Nel Six Pack Challenge di [[WWE Night of Champions 2010|Night of Champions]] viene eliminato dalla contesa per terzo da [[Stu Bennett|Wade Barrett]].

La sera successiva, a [[WWE Raw|Raw]], Cena sfida Barrett a [[WWE Hell in a Cell 2010|Hell in a Cell]]. Questo match prevede due condizioni: se il leader della CeNation verrà sconfitto dovrà entrare a far parte del [[The Nexus (wrestling)|Nexus]], ma se vincerà il Nexus si scioglierà definitivamente. A Hell in a Cell, [[Stu Bennett|Wade Barrett]] riesce a vincere il match, grazie alle interferenze di [[Windham Rotunda|Husky Harris]] e [[Joe Hennig|Michael McGilligutty]], costringendo così Cena ad entrare nel [[The Nexus (wrestling)|Nexus]]. La sera successiva a Raw, dopo un giuramento entra con rammarico nel Nexus. Inizia poi a subire la furia degli esordienti ma a sua volta lui infortuna Tarver. Tuttavia arriva un'e-mail dal GM che dice che se Cena aggredirà i membri del Nexus verrà licenziato. Alle [[WWE Survivor Series 2010|Survivor Series]] Cena arbitra un match per il [[WWE World Heavyweight Championship|WWE Championship]] fra [[Randy Orton]] e [[Stu Bennett|Wade Barrett]]. La stipulazione era che se Barrett avesse perso, Cena sarebbe stato licenziato. Il match viene vinto da Orton e quindi Cena viene licenziato. Continua però gli attacchi ai membri del Nexus, dicendo di voler mantenere la promessa di distruggere l'intero team.

Ritorna poi a Raw poiché Barrett era stato costretto a riassumerlo dagli altri membri del Nexus dopo le aggressioni subite da questi ultimi. A [[WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs 2010|TLC]] Cena sconfigge Barrett in un Chairs match, terminando la sua faida con il Nexus.

Alla [[WWE Royal Rumble 2011|Royal Rumble]] partecipa al Royal Rumble match e dopo aver eliminato molti membri del New Nexus, viene eliminato da [[Mike Mizanin|The Miz]] che non era nemmeno in gara in quanto [[WWE World Heavyweight Championship|WWE Champion]]. Dopo che [[Dwayne Johnson|The Rock]] fu annunciato host di [[WrestleMania XXVII]], quest'ultimo inizia una faida con John Cena, basata sulle brutte parole usate da quest'ultimo poco dopo il suo esordio (si parla degli anni 2002 e 2003, quando Cena era un [[Heel (wrestling)|heel]]). Nella puntata del 21 febbraio Cena risponde con un Rap a The Rock e vince il [[WWE Tag Team Championship]] insieme a The Miz la sera dopo l'Elimination Chamber, sconfiggendo [[Heath Slater]] e [[Paul Lloyd, Jr.|Justin Gabriel]]. Perderà però i titoli pochi minuti dopo, nel rematch sancito dal General Manager anonimo, a causa dell'attacco perpetrato dal suo stesso compagno ma anche rivale The Miz. Il 24 luglio a [[Battleground (2016)|Battleground]] John Cena, Enzo Amore e Big Cass, hanno sconfitto il Club in un six-man tag team match. Nella puntata di ''SmackDown'' del 26 luglio Cena ha partecipato ad un six-pack challenge match che comprendeva anche AJ Styles, [[Apollo Crews]], [[Baron Corbin]], [[Bray Wyatt]] e [[Dolph Ziggler]] per decretare il contendente numero uno al [[WWE World Championship]] di Dean Ambrose, ma il match è stato vinto da Ziggler. Il 21 agosto a [[SummerSlam (2016)|SummerSlam]] Cena è stato sconfitto da AJ Styles. == Personaggio nel wrestling ==

Il personaggio di debutto di John Cena era quello di un rapper ''heel'' che si fece una buona popolarità tra il pubblico, soprattutto per il modo originale con cui i suoi promo prendevano in giro gli avversari e rispecchiavano perfettamente il suo atteggiamento da ragazzo teppista che fa il duro. In seguito però alla famosa stretta di mano con [[Chris Benoit]] e alla vittoria dello [[WWE United States Championship|United States Championship]] a [[WrestleMania XX]], Cena passò tra i ''face'' e la sua popolarità crebbe tantissimo.

A [[WrestleMania 21]] vinse il suo primo [[WWE World Heavyweight Championship|WWE Championship]] e divenne il beniamino della federazione; tuttavia, molte persone cominciarono a criticare l'esagerato buonismo e l'aspetto da supereroe che il personaggio di Cena cominciava ad assumere, oltre che a mettere in dubbio la sua abilità sul ring a causa del nuovo copione da ''[[Underdog (termine)|underdog]]'' che Cena si vedeva costretto ad interpretare, un copione che prevede un ''face'' che vince il match con poche mosse dopo aver subito per tutto l'incontro. Fu così che, accanto ai suoi fan, nacquero gli "hater" che lo fischiavano e che, in modo variabile, continuano a fischiarlo tutt'oggi. Nel 2006 questo movimento di protesta (in particolare i cori di disapprovazione e gli insulti ricevuti dal pubblico a [[WWE ECW One Night Stand 2006|ECW One Night Stand]]) consolidò il personaggio controverso di Cena, rendendolo unico nel suo genere. Sebbene all'inizio i fischi erano nati presso i fan per il modo ripetitivo ed ''underdog'' con cui Cena conduceva i suoi match, col tempo fischiare Cena divenne sempre più una moda, tanto che nel 2006 durante il tour di ''Raw'' a Milano, Cena venne fischiato anche dai fan italiani che invece lo avevano sempre ben accolto in passato. Nonostante ciò, Cena rimane ancora oggi il volto della federazione essendo l'idolo soprattutto dei fan più piccoli e quindi il wrestler simbolo della attuale "Universe Era" (conosciuta anche come "Era PG").

Emblema del personaggio di Cena sono poi l'imbattibilità negli [["I quit" match]] (combattuti contro [[John Layfield|JBL]], [[Randy Orton]], [[Dave Bautista|Batista]], [[The Miz]] e [[Alexander Rusev|Rusev]]) e il fatto che egli abbia perso per sottomissione soltanto per quattro volte nella sua intera carriera, di cui tre negli anni antecedenti alla sua ascesa.

== Note Trama==

Il tredicenne Adam vive un'adolescenza complicata per via dei suoi capelli scombinati e dei suoi piedi molto grandi, che lo rendono il bersaglio di tre bulli. Partito alla ricerca del padre, misteriosamente scomparso, scopre che si tratta in realtà di [[Bigfoot]]; col tempo, inoltre, scopre di avere dei poteri, come la velocità e la capacità di comunicare con gli animali.
