What about the geopolitical/geostrategic implications of the dam? If the dam were destroyed (for example by an Israeli nuclear strike), the resulting flood would effectively destroy Egypt completely. It has been suggested that this realization was the main reason for the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel. [[User:GCarty|GCarty]], 18 Nov 2003 09:52 UTC

I retrieved this picture from NASA's '[http://earth.jsc.nasa.gov/sseop/EFS/lores.pl?PHOTO=STS102-303-17 Earth from Space]' website. It definitely should be used in the article, but I don't have the time right now to find a nice place, so I'm parking it here for anyone to insert. Details about all the participants can be found on the official resource =Hydroproject= http://www.mhp.rushydro.ru/company/history/asuanskaya-plotina/ that designed this dam, there are no details in English. If there is no resource in English, this does not mean that the truth should be hidden. <!-- Template:Unsigned IP --><small class="autosigned">—&nbsp;Preceding [[Wikipedia:Signatures|unsigned]] comment added by [[Special:Contributions/37.145.62.194|37.145.62.194]] ([[User talk:37.145.62.194#top|talk]]) 06:28, 22 July 2022 (UTC)</small> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

:You have been making repeated unsourced edits and refuse to provide any valid sources, despite attempts to reach out to you in good faith. The one English language source you cited did not mention the Aswan Dam project and is a dubious anyways (FreeDictionary.com). As for your other source (mhp.rushydro.ru), it is not an English language site (and, no, "you're lazy - just translate this Russian source with google" does not cut it as an English language source) and also appears to be a commercial webpage, not a historical site or news site. Find an English source that meets the criteria in [[wp:sources]] as I asked you to do and you can redo your edit. But you refuse to do so.
This article is overall well-written and informative, but lacks [[Wikipedia:Cite sources|references]]. Does anyone know where exactly the information comes from? [[User:Mark Dingemanse|<nowiki> </nowiki>]]&mdash; [[User:Mark Dingemanse|mark]] [[User Talk:Mark Dingemanse|&#9998;]] 00:14, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC)
:Additionally, the person you are claiming was the project engineer has never been mentioned before and does not have a Wikipedia article. Even if they did contribute, no one has ever seen a need to add it to the article before. See [[Wikipedia:Existence ≠ Notability]] for details.
:Finally, you add insulting comments in your edit comments and are now making personal attacks on me here. I am not on some sort of vendetta - I have simply asked you to obey the policies cited above and you refuse to do so. If you were to simply find a sutiable source, redo your edit, and move on, we'd both be happy. But you refuse.
:Just find a suitable source and make us both happy, okay? [[User:KNHaw|<span style="font-family: comic sans ms; color: SeaGreen;">'''''KNHaw'''''</span>]] [[User talk:KNHaw|<span style="color: SeaGreen;">(talk)</span>]] 15:48, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
::This is the official source of the [[Hydroproject|company that designed the project]]. The dam was built by the [[USSR]]. Every company has its own history, if you're so dumb you don't understand the basics. Look who designed this dam? and go to their website. http://www.mhp.rushydro.ru/company/history/asuanskaya-plotina/ Source of the company that developed the project- 100%. :::First, can we stop with the personal attacks here? This is a clear violation of [[Wikipedia:Civility]]. I don't know where you're used to posting but that kind of garbage has no place on Wikipedia. I wouldn't stand for someone insulting any user - including you - in that way. So I sure am not going to stand for you doing it to me. It stops '''now'''.
:::Second, you haven't answered the core question: Can you find an English language source that backs up your claims? If so, please make your change with my blessings! If this is really important to you, do some digging - you may just find what you need. But as it is, these sources don't cut it.
:::Finally, I get that you're not going to listen to me. So, I'm moving this discussion [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Edit_warring#User:37.145.62.194_reported_by_User:KNHaw_(Result:_) here] so experts can inform us who is in the right. Sound good?
:::Good luck. [[User:KNHaw|<span style="font-family: comic sans ms; color: SeaGreen;">'''''KNHaw'''''</span>]] [[User talk:KNHaw|<span style="color: SeaGreen;"><sup>(talk)</sup></span>]] 20:34, 23 July 2022 (UTC)

== High floods destroy crops? ==
== not really _that_ useful high dam pictures... ==

Crops are planted on the floodplain. Flooding should destroy all crops every year except when the flood fails by this logic. Surely the danger posed by high flooding was damage to infrastructure (such as dykes) built to maximize yields, or to structures built on the lowlands. [[Special:Contributions/108.34.149.124|108.34.149.124]] ([[User talk:108.34.149.124|talk]]) 18:07, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
i, on the other hand, have two pics that are quite loosely related to the high dam... i.e. they depict the lotus flower tower (soviet-egyptian friendship monument) itself... i'm not sure they fit this article, nor i am truly convinced that there should be a separate article concerning the tower... i seek advice... regards, [[User:Blueshade|Blueshade]] 18:11, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)

:Traditional agriculture in Egypt - before the building of the first dams in the 19th century - was based on a single crop planted after the annual flood and harvested a few months later. The floods thus did not damage any crops. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flooding_of_the_Nile#Agriculture. I thus believe you are right when you write in your second sentence that the benefits from flood protection (mentioned in the article by Abul-Ata and quoted in this Wikipedia article) refer to damage to infrastructure. ps: the second one is, imho, nice since it contains some text in russian and arabic commemorating the completion of the dam...

This whole section is full of grammar and punctuation errors, and it reads like an advertisement rather than part of a wiki. [[Special:Contributions/2601:601:4085:AFE0:0:0:0:8813|2601:601:4085:AFE0:0:0:0:8813]] ([[User talk:2601:601:4085:AFE0:0:0:0:8813|talk]]) 05:41, 11 October 2023 (UTC)

:Completely agree, and it only cites one source. It should be removed or reduced to a couple sentences [[Special:Contributions/213.27.234.246|213.27.234.246]] ([[User talk:213.27.234.246|talk]]) 22:26, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
it now breaks miserably on larger-resolution screens... - [[User:Blueshade|Blueshade]]

:Really? I'm running 1280x1024 (but maybe that's not considered large any more, at least in your town). Is it a browser issue with the "< div >" command? It looks ok here in Opera 7 and IE 6, with 2 different skins. Would you like to try placing them individually at different points of the article instead of stacking them, see if that works? [[User:Hajor|&ndash;''Hajor'']] 13:48, 10 Feb 2005 (UTC)

[[Image:Aswan dam opera screenshot.jpg|thumb|128px|right|screenshot illustrating the "horizontal overlapping" issue]]
:: uh... i'm running at 1280x960 under Opera 7.54... and this is indeed considered a rather large resolution here... but to the point - just to clarify what i mean, i uploaded the screenshot (on the right), so you know what i'm talking about... anyway, i already had no idea how to arrange the pics so they could render correctly enough in most situations and that's why i had put them all aligned to the right at the beginning of the article (they aligned themselves nicely along the right edge - i know that's not too interesting a way to put the images into an article but i know no better as for now)... - [[User:Blueshade|Blueshade]] 12:21, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

:OK, our setups aren't that dissimilar, then -- except from what I can see, you can get by with a much <small>smaller default font</small>! I'll put 'em all in a single stack, see if that resolves the overlap. (Are there any guidelines anywhere on how to include a large number of pics in an article without causing display problems?) BTW, when you say, they "aligned themselves nicely along the right edge," do you mean vertically or horizontally? It sounds like you mean vertically, but what I was seeing was horizontal: looked pretty rough, that's why I changed it. [[User:Hajor|&ndash;''Hajor'']] 01:47, 15 Feb 2005 (UTC)

[[User:Hajor|&ndash;''Hajor'']] 01:47, 15 Feb 2005 (UTC)

:: hmm... it '''certainly''' was vertically... i assumed that's how they would look elsewhere, but apparently, i assumed wrong... - [[User:Blueshade|Blueshade]] 11:38, 15 Feb 2005 (UTC)
