Il 12 gennaio 2014, è stato annunciato che, con l'appoggio di [[Mark Burnett]], la [[Lucha Libre AAA manderàWorldwide|Asistencia Asesoría y Administración]] avrebbe mandato in onda unoun spettacolo[[Programma sul networktelevisivo|programma]] americanosu El Rey nellaNetwork durante la seconda metà dell'anno.; Ilil 5 ottobre 2014, Prince Puma[[Ricochet (Ricochetwrestler)|Prince Puma]] è stato incoronato come primo Lucha Underground Champion.

Al termine della [[Episodi di Lucha Underground (quarta stagione)|quarta stagione]], molti [[Glossario del wrestling#Wrestler|wrestler]] hanno intentato una causa legale a ''Lucha Underground'' per essere stati licenziati senza un chiaro motivo.

Il programma è da definire unico nel suo genere in quanto mescola lo stile di lotta messicana (lucha libre) con elementi tipici delle serie tv, con segmenti registrati che presentano colpi di scena seguendo la storia dei personaggi.

Viene introdotta la figura di ''Dario Cueto'' (interpretato dall'attore spagnolo Luiz Fernandez-Gil) che dirige lo spettacolo e controlla tutto ciò che avviene nel tempio.
