I propose changing the {{para|status_code}} values C='Champion', G='Guest', H='Host'& O='Play-off winner' to the plurals Champions, Guests, Hosts & Play-off winners as the module is more often used with teams/nations and not individuals. When talking about teams, it is more common to use the plural than the singular values. [[User:Nthep|Nthep]] ([[User talk:Nthep|talk]]) 15:53, 8 August 2023 (UTC)

== Altering point total for one team ==
A single team in a league of nine teams was issued a six point reduction to their season point total as the result of not filing required paperwork for an international import player. The team's number of wins was not altered. Is there a way to edit only that team's point total, while continuing the use the standard module for the other eight teams?<br>
For context, this question is specific to the sports table at [[2023–24 Naisten Liiga season#Standings]]. [[User:Spitzmauskc|Spitzmauskc]] ([[User talk:Spitzmauskc|talk]]) 16:14, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
:@[[User:Spitzmauskc|Spitzmauskc]] yes. There's a parameter {{para|adjust_points_XXX}} you can use to add or delete points to a teams total. Just replace XXX with the relevant team code. See {{tl|2018 RFL League 1 regular season table}} for an example. [[User:Nthep|Nthep]] ([[User talk:Nthep|talk]]) 16:48, 21 September 2023 (UTC)

== The template_name parameter ==
{{ping|Mediocre Legacy}} In almost all cases, the {{para|template_name}} parameter is not needed since the module knows the name of the parent, so edits like [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:UEFA_Euro_2012_qualifying_group_tables&diff=prev&oldid=1186131483 this one] are pointless. :: {{ping|Mediocre Legacy}} no idea what you are talking about, the [[England_at_the_UEFA_European_Championship#UEFA_Euro_2012:_Poland–Ukraine|UEFA Euro 2012]] tables in that article are showing up just fine. [[User:Frietjes|Frietjes]] ([[User talk:Frietjes|talk]]) 22:24, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
== What's the difference between status letters "A" and "Q"? ==
And "T" as well. Presumably "Q" and "T" should be together, but never "A" and "T". Is that right? [[User:Howard the Duck|Howard the Duck]] ([[User talk:Howard the Duck|talk]]) 22:43, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
:Fairly semantic between A and Q. The next match might not be another round but could be another tournament altogether. T is for when you know the team have qualified for something but not sure what. For example, rugby league in the UK has post-season play-offs. The stage at which a club might start the play-offs depends on where they finish in the regular season. T is the status used when we know they will definitely make the play-offs but, as yet, not sure which bit of it they will start at. [[User:Nthep|Nthep]] ([[User talk:Nthep|talk]]) 17:24, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
::I reason I asked this is there's a dispute on what to use between A and Q. I'd argue that if there's a T, Q should be exclusively used, and if there's no confusion on what the "next round" should be, use A. [[User:Howard the Duck|Howard the Duck]] ([[User talk:Howard the Duck|talk]]) 23:01, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
:::That sounds context specific and not something where there is a 100% definite answer. [[User:Nthep|Nthep]] ([[User talk:Nthep|talk]]) 07:56, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
::::Okay; there should be guidance on this. FWIW, I've noticed that A is used if all teams are competing for the same set of berths on the next round (like FIFA World Cup teams in the group stages all gunning for a knockout stage berth), while Q and T if there are several types of berths, or if some teams wins byes or has an easier path to the title, or advance to a more prestigious competition based on its seeding (like in the UEFA Champions League where a team can advance to the knockout stage, to the Europa League, or be eliminated altogether).
::::This is not always clear-cut and there it should be distinguished when we should use Q/T and A. [[User:Howard the Duck|Howard the Duck]] ([[User talk:Howard the Duck|talk]]) 22:17, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
== Making this template compatible for night mode ==
Hi [[User:Frietjes]] this template has been flagged by https://night-mode-checker.wmcloud.org/en-mobile-night/ and <nowiki>[[Special:LintErrors/night-mode-unaware-background-color]]</nowiki> as having an issue in the upcoming night mode theme (example link: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Euro_2024_qualifying?minervanightmode=1 )
In Cyprus and Norway in Group A the text appears black on black background. Could the "background-color:transparent;" rule be removed per [[mw:Recommendations_for_night_mode_compatibility_on_Wikimedia_wikis#Avoid_using_background:_none_or_background:_transparent|this recommendation]]? : [[User:Jdlrobson|Jdlrobson]], removing it almost works, but now the team cells are colored the same as the header cells. we use the default wikitable background color (#f8f9fa) instead of transparent, or try to add something to the css to override the grey background for "row scoped" table rows? :The {{param|res_col_header}} parameter allows grouping and has the benefit of positively identifying which rows the comment applies to. == Help with a custom table ==
I've been trying to convert the wikitable at [[2024 USL Cup#Ranking of non-group leading teams]] to use [[Module:Sports table]], but have come across some issues. When using [[Module:Sports table/Custom]], the following issues arise:
*Played column calculation: cannot add W+PKW+PKL+L
*Points column calculation: cannot assign 2 points for a PKW and 1 point for a PKL
*Points column formatting: cannot disable bolding
See the below code for an example.

Or, instead of using the Custom module, would it be easier to allow an option to modify [[Module:Sports table/WL PK|WL PK]]/[[Module:Sports table/WDL OT|WDL OT]] to change which columns are and are not bolded? What would be the best solution? Pining {{u|Frietjes}}, who is very knowledgeable with this module. Thanks, [[User:S.A. Julio|S.A. Julio]] ([[User talk:S.A. Julio#top|talk]]) 18:06, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
: [[User:S.A. Julio|S.A. Julio]], yes, changing [[Module:Sports table/WL PK|WL PK]]/[[Module:Sports table/WDL OT|WDL OT]] would probably be less complicated, with a lot less code in the article. looking at [[Module:Sports table/WDL OT|WDL OT]]. we may be able to trigger it through {{para|ranking_style}} without adding another parameter. I have to look. [[User:Frietjes|Frietjes]] ([[User talk:Frietjes|talk]]) 18:17, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
:: I added {{para|ranking_style|forpts}} which bolds the goals for column. I could have it unbold the points column, but the looking at the logic for {{para|ranking_style}} in the other cases, I would expect it to bold both. to selectively turn on and off bolding, we should have a different parameter for clarity. but, in this case, the ranking is first by points scored, and second by points, so it seems okay to have both bolded. [[User:Frietjes|Frietjes]] ([[User talk:Frietjes|talk]]) 19:44, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
:::{{re|Frietjes}} Ok, great thank you! I will note that for this article, only head-to-head points is a tiebreaker. Therefore, the points column doesn't really need to be emphasized, but it's not a big deal if it requires too many changes for another parameter. [[User:S.A. Julio|S.A. Julio]] ([[User talk:S.A. Julio#top|talk]]) 20:06, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
== Totals check ==
{{ping|Frietjes}} One other quick question: often this module will be used to show how teams rank from different groups, for example: [[UEFA Euro 2016#Ranking of third-placed teams]]. However, then the totals check will give a number of warnings when previewing an edit that the wins/losses, goals for/against, etc. do not total each other. Is there any way the totals check feature could be disabled when groups are present? Would be really appreciated if possible! Thanks, [[User:S.A. Julio|S.A. Julio]] ([[User talk:S.A. Julio#top|talk]]) 20:48, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
:@[[User:S.A. Julio|S.A. Julio]] try adding {{para|notracking|yes}} to the table. [[User:Nthep|Nthep]] ([[User talk:Nthep|talk]]) 21:07, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
::{{re|Nthep}} The only issue is that there are hundreds of such tables, having a simpler way of disabling the totals check would be nice. I would say almost all tables with the 'group' column do not need a total check. [[User:S.A. Julio|S.A. Julio]] ([[User talk:S.A. Julio#top|talk]]) 21:17, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
:::The test to display total checks could be set to depend on either of the {{para|show_groups}} or {{para|notracking}} parameters without too much difficulty (I think). But there would need to be a way to allow total checks to be shown, if wanted, on tables with groups so the logic would need to allow that.
:::There's probably more investigation needed into how many tables there are that use groups and how many of those don't need total checks. [[User:Nthep|Nthep]] ([[User talk:Nthep|talk]]) 21:51, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
