The participating countries were [[Chile national football team|Chile]], [[Ecuador national football team|Ecuador]], [[Paraguay national football team|Paraguay]], [[Peru national football team|Peru]], and [[Uruguay national football team|Uruguay]]. Although [[CONMEBOL]] members since 1927, this tournament was the first time the Ecuadorian side participated. [[Colombia national football team|Colombia]] –member since 1936– withdrew again from the tournament, as well as [[Argentina national football team|Argentina]], [[Bolivia national football team|Bolivia]] and [[Brazil national football team|Brazil]]. Peru won for the first time.
