[[島式ホーム]]1面2線を有する[[地上駅]]で、[[橋上駅|橋上駅舎]]を有する。かつて[[非電化]][[単線]]だった頃は[[単式ホーム]]1面1線と[[島式ホーム]]1面2線であったが、[[鉄道の電化|電化]]および[[複線]]時に[[相対式ホーム]]2面2線となった。さらに橋上駅舎化に際して現在の配置となる。橋上駅舎ではあるが、南口側は地表面レベルに出入口がある。北口の道路へ出るには[[階段]]か[[エレベーター]]を経由する。この他、エレベーターはコンコース - ホーム間に設置されている。また、ホーム大網方の階段に上り[[エスカレーター]]が設置されている。
茂原統括センター（[[蘇我駅]]）管理の[[日本の鉄道駅#業務委託駅|業務委託駅]]（[[JR東日本ステーションサービス]]受託）であり、[[自動改札機]]・[[自動券売機#指定券自動券売機|指定席券売機]]が設置されている。[[みどりの窓口]]は[[2013年]][[2月4日]]限りで営業を終了した。鎌取駅委託化前は同駅の[[被管理駅]]であった。
