Figlio del giocatore di [[hockey]] [[Canada|canadese]] [[Ted Irvine]], Christopher Irvine è nato [[Manhasset]] ([[New York (Statostato)|New York]]), ma è cresciuto a [[Winnipeg]] ([[Manitoba]]). == Carriera nel wrestling ==

La carriera da lottatore inizia nel 1990, quando inizia a lottare nel [[circuito indipendente]]; nei primi anni della sua carriera lotta anche in [[Messico]] e in [[Giappone]]. Il suo match di debutto è contro [[Lance Storm]] nella Stampede, la federazione canadese di proprietà di [[Stu Hart]].

Nell'inverno del 1993, lavora in Messico combattendo con il ring name di Corazón de León, dove lavorò per diverse compagnie fino ad approdare alla prestigiosa [[Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre]]. Nella CMLL, Jericho vinse l'NWA World Middleweight Championship sconfiggendo [[Último Dragón]] nel dicembre 1993. Poco dopo, abbandonò il Messico per andare a lottare in [[Germania]] e poi ancora in [[Giappone]], alla corte di [[Genichiro Tenryu]]. Qui vinse il WAR International Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship insieme a [[Gedo (wrestler)|Gedo]].
