Come il live ''[[Made in Japan (Deep Purple)|Made in Japan]]'' per i [[Deep Purple]], ''Unleashed in the East'' viene spesso indicato come uno dei migliori lavori dei Judas Priest.

Come il live ''[[Made in Japan]]'' per i [[Deep Purple]], ''Unleashed in the East'' viene spesso indicato come uno dei migliori lavori dei Judas Priest. Fatto insolito per un disco ''live'' [[hard rock]] degli [[anni 1970|anni settenta]], manca quasi del tutto l'[[improvvisazione]] (tranne che sulla sola ''Genocide''). I brani sono però eseguiti quasi tutti con un arrangiamento più incisivo e un ritmo più incalzante rispetto agli originali in studio. Circolano voci che le parti vocali furono reincise in studio, perché durante i concerti il cantante soffriva di un [[raffreddore]] degenerato poi in [[laringite]]. Inoltre si dice che esso sia un finto live realizzato in studio con l'aggiunta degli effetti sonori del pubblico. Tipton smentì ciò ma non negò il fatto che alcune performance vocali di Halford e qualche riff di chitarra furono "ritoccati". Alcuni detrattori hanno chiamato, ironicamente, il disco "Unleashed in the Studio".
