being: Edmund, Katherine Sutton, Margaret Sutton, William Sutton, Jane Sutton, Oliver Sutton, Eleanor Sutton, and John Dudley, Esq., of Atherington, Sussex, who became Sheriff of Sussex and Surrey in 1484/5, and whom was the grandfather of John Dudley, (Duke of Northumberland).

Sutton was born in [[Dudley]], the eldest son of [[John Sutton, 1st Baron Dudley]], [[Order of the Garter|KG]], and his wife Elizabeth, daughter of [[John Berkeley (1352–1428)|Sir John Berkeley]].<ref name="Burke"/>

==Career==

Sir Edmund Sutton was born in the year of 1425 in Dudley, (d. After 6 July 1483). 

He fought alongside his father during the conflict today known as the Wars of the Roses and was present at the battles of St Albans, Blore Heath, and Towton.{{citation needed|date=May 2016}}

==Personal life==

By right of his first wife, the family title was passed to her as the third and youngest daughter of lord Sir John de Tibertot, the sister and heir to John, her brother, the Earl of Worcester by her mother, Joyce, being the daughter of Edward lord Cherleton.

Edmund married Joyce Tiptoft, daughter of [[John Tiptoft, 1st Baron Tiptoft]] by Joyce de Cherleton<ref>{{cite book |last=Lee |first=James Wideman |title=The geography of genius |year=1920 |publisher=Fleming H Revell, Co |url=https://archive.org/details/geographygenius00leegoog|page=90}}</ref>(daughter of [[Edward Charleton, 5th Baron Cherleton]]), ultimately coheir to the baronies of Cherleton and Tiptoft. She transmitted to the Dudley family the quarterings of Tiptoft, Cherleton, Holland, and that of [[Edmund of Woodstock, 1st Earl of Kent|Edmund of Woodstock]], youngest son of King [[Edward I of England]]. Together, they were the parents of:

Thus it came to pass that through this association the quartering of Edmund of Woodstock, earl of Kent, youngest son of King Edward I came, through the families of Holland, Cherleton and Tibertot to the Dudley family.

Edmund then (c. 1465) married Matilda, daughter of [[Thomas Clifford, 8th Baron de Clifford|Thomas Lord Clifford]] and they were the parents of:

Edmund's exact date of death is not known, but was living on 6 July 1483 but died before his father (who died 30 September 1487).{{citation needed|date=May 2016}}
