A tag has been placed on [[:Adam Lieber]], requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable [[Wikipedia:Notability|(see the guidelines for notability here)]]. If you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add <code>{{tl|hangon}}</code> on the top of the page and leave a note on [[Talk:Adam Lieber|the article's talk page]] explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.

Could you please not delete the [[Alternative South Africa]] page, even though its content may contain queer or feminist references that you disagree with! Regardless of policy, I will retaliate if you insist on policing content that fails to live up to the standards of "white South Africa". Passive-aggressive behaviour such as exhibited by some of my compatriots, lead to campuses being invaded by baton-wielding cops during the 80s, in the mistaken assumption that our thoughts and ideas could be changed by force! As for Wikipedias [[Neutrality]] and [[Biase]]? When Nestle makes reperations for [[apartheid]] war crimes, then we can all talk about biase. Neutrality on a national page? Forget it!

: There is a current problem of SAIX proxies being blocked. As you have found, you can only edit your own talk page. In light of that, and the questionable validity of [[Alternative South Africa]], I '''strongly''' suggest you develop the page as Dewet suggests - as a sub-page of your own. Why don't you develop existing pages, like [[Culture of South Africa]] instead (it seems to be what you are striving for ?) '''Alternative South Africa''' is heading for another going-going-gone unless it ''radically'' improves. Dear Wizzy, could you shut the fuck up, unless you have something constructive to say. No, doubt, that article will arrive, in its final form as g-d intended, and you are free to attack it then, but as far as the validity of the topic is concerned, suck my *453

== A friendly, sort of response ==

Who elected [[User:Dewet|dewet]]to police the discussion on South Africa? I take exception to the rudeness of his tone and his assumption that he represents South Africa. Also, I don't think deleting the Alternative South Africa article sets a good precedent. As for getting personal, I'm not about to make friends with an engineer who refuses to acknowledge the vast contribution of people like Koos Kombuis, Benoldus Niemand and Valient Swart to popular culture. If it weren't for the "alternative" label, nothing would have changed in the country.

Spurred on by such invective, Ive decided to go ahead and create a genuine "Alternative South Africa" whose starting point will be everything that the so-called South Africa ___domain policed by certain "individuals", is not. You may join the discussion on counterculture, but I'm not going to buy into Mr South Africa's prognosis about either the media, or wikipedia policy. [[User:Ethnopunk|Ethnopunk]] 15:17, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

: I deleted the article, both times. [[User:Dewet]] is a respected contributor to both the English and Afrikaans wikipedias. I expect that, in time, you will also be. If you are proposing a [[POV fork]], it will not survive. Please read the links Dewet pointed to. [[Koos Kombuis]], [[Benoldus Niemand]] and [[Valient Swart]], and their contribution to [[Culture of South Africa]], sounds like an excellent project, and I support you in doing so (as does Dewet). You will encounter least resistance if these articles spring into being as at least a paragraph, conforming to style, spelled correctly, and wiki-linked to other relevant articles. Have at it. [[User:Wikiwizzy|Wizzy]]&hellip;[[User talk:Wikiwizzy|<big><big>'''&#9742;'''</big></big>]] 15:43, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

:: Or what, you'll erase my name from the annals of history and shambock students in the library like what happened while I was at UCT? While I appreciate your effort, I really don't like being dominated by a couple of engineers from the computer dept. Do I really have to argue for the inclusion of popular culture and media studies as something more than an offshoot of boerestaat? BTW, its a long haul project and not something that's bound to spring up overnight.
[[User:Ethnopunk|Ethnopunk]] 15:52, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

: Goodness, you aren't one for easily making friends, are you? You have come with preconceived notions and stereotypes (engineers and [[boer]]e, nogal!), and attacked without provocation. Somewhere you've gotten the idea that I am "policing" South African topics to reflect some fantasy version of history, which couldn't be further from the truth! I challenge you to look through my contributions, and show me one instance of that! As you can see, the articles on [[Koos Kombuis]], [[Bernoldus Niemand]] and [[Valiant Swart]] are ''waiting'' to be written; not because of censorship, but because of simple lack of hands. Click on the red links and '''do it'''! However, your confrontational style will hamper all your contributions to this serious, honest project. Take this as advice, or leave it. :: It's a pity really, because those notions keep getting varified by passive-agressive behaviour learnt while playing [[Quake]] or [[Doom]]. Its not the interface I don't trust, its the way software engineers take over the encyclopeadia, while insisting that pictures of bare breasted women prancing around naked on the savannahs isn't racial or masculine bias. I'm off to an alternative event in [[Observatory]] to talk about corporate bias in the news. Later. [[User:Ethnopunk|Ethnopunk]] 16:20, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Apoligies for the [[Ad Hominem]] attack, but the text was not copied directly from that site. It was saved and then edited online. The result was substantially different and in no way a copyright infringement. Schuminweb is behaving like a boy scout who knows he is in the wrong, the copy should have been moved to the discussion page before being deleted.

== Be careful ==

Hi, maybe by now you know that I have some of the same interests as you and contribute to some of the same discussions. Maybe we're from similar backgrounds too, but Wikipedia hides that, and lets you build up a reputation based entirely on your contributions. I've followed yours with interest, and noticed you getting into a lot of arguments. Most recently, I saw your comment "Just so you know, I clapped and cheered when the WTC came down" on [[Talk:Angolan War]]. This is a friendly but '''very serious''' warning not to say stuff like that, ever. If it needs any explanation, consider the feeling in your stomach if someone said they cheered when the Sharpeville massacre happened, or when they heard how many Africans are dying of Aids.

So where to from here? You could go a lot further sharing knowledge about topics that you know and care about, but only if you act a lot more carefully to avoid the fights you've been getting into. Sorry this is a real sermon, but someone needs to say it to you nicely. Otherwise you'll either burn out and leave in disgust, or be pushed out by the community. I'd rather you stayed. How you react to this warning is a test of your character. I don't think you're going to find many people going to this length to include you.
[[User:Zaian|Zaian]] 21:54, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks Zaian, but the situation is really like somebody laughing off the Angolan War or forgetting about Sharpville and saying my experience (along with hundreds of other South African's) is irrelevent, because they know-it-all. The debate has been dumbed down to the point of stupidity merely because the American media left out the CIA's role in the war and now some bright spark sees fit to question my ''bone fides''. As for my comment on the WTC, its not something I say lightly, I would rather launch a critique of the information age, the lack of contemporaneity in cyberspace and the disadvantages still faced by those living in the third world but that would take all day. ==Wikipedia is not a bureacracy==
In particular, Wikipedia is not a system of law. Disagreements should be resolved through consensual discussion, rather than through tightly sticking to rules and procedures. Instruction creep should be avoided. A perceived procedural error made in posting anything, such as an idea or nomination, is not grounds for invalidating that post. Follow the spirit, not the letter, of any rules, policies and guidelines (see [[Wikipedia:Wikilawyering]]). Our dispute resolution process exists to mediate and arbitrate disputes between users, not to enforce judicial remedies. From [[Wikipedia:What_Wikipedia_is_not|What Wikipedia is not]].

</h2>
Community Justice is no more. It has been reformed to [[Wikipedia:Concordia|Concordia]]. Membership has been transferred.

Concordia is an organization of editors on Wikipedia that strive to encourage civility and fair treatment among ''all'' editors in the Wikipedian community, from the [[Wikipedia:WikiGnome|Wikignome]] to the [[Wikiholic]]. The project was designed to have a friendly and helpful environment to support any unfortunate Wikipedians that have become victims of incivility, hostility, or continual disrespect.

We currently need help in getting going, and making the community understand our aims. We work for '''civility'''. Nothing more, nothing less.

If you have ideas, let us know at our talk page, or on the IRC channel. We aim to spread civility in every way we can.

Should you wish to unsubscribe to future newsletters, please add your name to [[Wikipedia:Concordia/Do Not Spam]].

Thank you for your time. If you need anything, feel free to comment at [[WT:CCD]] or come into our [[IRC]] channel [irc://irc.freenode.net/#concordia-wp].

[[Image:Concordiabig.svg|300px]] <big>'''NEWSLETTER'''</big>

Concordia is currently trying to relaunch. I, and all the members of the ex-council, wish to welcome new members to the group. We are a group who aim to promote remaining civil, in an environment where messages can easily be interpretated wrongly.

====''Help out now!''====
*Try and help people remain civil! Talk to them, and help them in any way possible. Do not be afraid to use the [[WT:CCD|talk page]].
*Give people the [[:Image:Civility_barnstar.png|Civility Barnstar]].
*Make and spread some Wikitokens so people know there are people to help if they want assistance.
*Add banners or logos to your userpage to show your support.
*'''Suggest some ideas!''' Add 'em to the [[WT:CCD|talk page]].
We are a community, so can only work though community contributions and support. It's the helping that counts.

====''Decision Making''====
The council expired one month ago, but due to the current position of the group the current council will remain until the position of the group can be assessed, and whether it would be sensible to keep Concordia going. For most decisions, however, it will be decided by all who choose to partake in discussions. I am trying to relaunch because of the vast amounts of new members we have received, demonstrating that the aims are supported.

If you wish to opt of of further talk-page communications, just let us know [[Wikipedia:Concordia/Do Not Spam|here]].

Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the [[WP:PROD|proposed deletion process]], the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the [[Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion|speedy deletion criteria]] or it can be sent to [[Wikipedia:Articles for deletion|Articles for Deletion]], where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. :You have asked at [[WP:DRV|Deletion review]] for this to be undelted. Technically, as a contested prod, it should be. But the article as it was before it was deleted showed not a hint of notability, so if this is undeleted, it is pretty much certian to be sent to [[WP:AfD]] at once, and unless there are significant sources and information toa dd to the article, IMO it is highly likely to be deleted at an AfD. Do you have significant additional information that you would add to the article if it were to be undeleted? if not, perhaps you would consider withdrawing your request, and save everybody soem fairly pointless hoop-jumping? Hello. Concerning your contribution, [[:South African dance music]], we cannot accept [[Wikipedia:Copyrights|copyrighted]] text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material without the permission of the author. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from {{{2|http://deity.digitalzones.com/dance/dance.html}}}. [[:South African dance music]] has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message. ==Copyright problem: South African dance music==
Hello, and [[Wikipedia:Welcome, newcomers|welcome to Wikipedia]]! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as [[South African dance music]], but we regretfully cannot accept [[Wikipedia:Copyrights|copyrighted]] text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a copy from http://deity.digitalzones.com/dance/dance.html, and therefore a [[Wikipedia:Copyright violations|copyright violation]]. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted.

If you believe that the article is ''not'' a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely ''under the [[GNU Free Documentation License]] (GFDL)'' then you should do one of the following:

:*If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details at [[Talk:South African dance music]] and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". '''See [[Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission]] for instructions.'''
:*If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted ''under the [[GFDL]] or released into the public ___domain'' leave a note at [[Talk:South African dance music]] with a link to where we can find that note.

It is also important that the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and that it follows [[Wikipedia:Guide to layout|Wikipedia article layout]]. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see [[Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines|Wikipedia's policies and guidelines]].

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at [[Talk:South African dance music/Temp]]. Leave a note at [[Talk:South African dance music]] saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved.
Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing!<!-- Template:Nothanks-web --> [[User:Stifle|Stifle]] ([[User talk:Stifle/wizard|talk]]) 18:27, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

==I own the copyright dammit!==
It's eager chipmonks like you who made me leave wikipedia. I really don't have time to debate issues like who own's copyright over my own work and whether or not I can put material that I own on wikipedia. This discussion, if you had bothered to follow the thread on the discussion page occurred about two years ago. Now you raise it, and since you're so keen to takeover the known universe with your moral prudery, have enough admin privileges to destroy probably every contribution I have ever made to wikipedia. I notice you are not a South African and probably haven't a clue about the topic you deleted. It's supposed to be an article on the history of SA dance music, but thanks to you, its been erased. ==File source problem with File:4thworld.jpg==
[[File:Copyright-problem.svg|64px|left]]
Thanks for uploading '''[[:File:4thworld.jpg]]'''. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the [[copyright]] status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

==File permission problem with File:Yemi.jpeg==
[[File:Copyright-problem.svg|64px|left]]
Thanks for uploading '''[[:File:Yemi.jpeg]]'''. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
* make a note permitting reuse under the [[WP:CC-BY-SA|CC-BY-SA]] or another acceptable free license (see [[Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Free licenses|this list]]) '''at the site of the original publication'''; or
* Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to '''{{NoSpamEmail|permissions-en|wikimedia.org}}''', stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter [[WP:CONSENT|here]].

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to '''{{NoSpamEmail|permissions-en|wikimedia.org}}'''.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at [[Wikipedia:Non-free content]], use a tag such as {{tlp|non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at [[Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use]], and add a [[WP:NFURG|rationale]] justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See [[Wikipedia:Image copyright tags]] for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in [{{fullurl:Special:Log|type=upload&user=Ethnopunk}} your upload log]. '''Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged''', as described on [[wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#Files|criteria for speedy deletion]]. ==[[Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion|Speedy deletion]] nomination of [[:Dolphin Action and Protection Group]]==
[[Image:Ambox warning_pn.svg|48px|left]] A tag has been placed on [[:Dolphin Action and Protection Group]] requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under [[WP:CSD#G12|section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion]], because the article appears to be a clear [[Wikipedia:Copyrights|copyright]] infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of ''information'', but not as a source of ''sentences''. This part is crucial: ''say it in your own words''.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you ''must'' verify that externally by one of the processes explained at [[Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials]]. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see [[Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission]]. You might want to look at [[Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines|Wikipedia's policies and guidelines]] for more details, or ask a question [[Wikipedia:Help desk|here]].

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding <code>{{tl|hangon}}</code> to '''the top of [[:Dolphin Action and Protection Group|the page that has been nominated for deletion]]''' (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on '''[[Talk:Dolphin Action and Protection Group|the talk page]]''' explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for ''speedy'' deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. <!-- Template:Db-copyvio-notice --> <!-- Template:Db-csd-notice-custom --> [[User:Andyjsmith|andy]] ([[User talk:Andyjsmith|talk]]) 16:28, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

== RE: Translation of Die Suid-Afrikaan's story on the [[Purple Rain Protest]] ==
It seems to have taken quite a while for anyone to get back to you on your request for a translation, but I've translated the extract you posted [[Talk:Purple_Rain_Protest#Please_translate_this_into_English|here]] as follows:<br />
"By ten o'clock Greenmarket Square was already thronged with people. Everywhere in the streets there were police; at that stage, at least I thought, definitely in greater numbers than bona fide demonstrators... There was a sort of festive atmosphere amongst the people gathered; it wasn't a bad day, cloudy yes, but without rain and not terribly cold either. Myself and a few friends first drank some coffee, then later walked to the Methodist church in Burg street. Everywhere people were greeting one another, calling out names and recognising acquaintances. The Methodist church was full to the brim. On the pulpit there was a protest leader who was busy explaining what the day's procedure would be. A lot of emphasis was placed on orderliness, calmness and discipline. It was only half-past ten, but already the protest was delayed. We were still waiting for the group who would be arriving from the Bo Kaap; we didn't yet know that they had already been taken into police custody.

I went outside again, where the atmosphere in Burg street felt like that of a carnival on a Saturday morning. Around Newspaper House stood first-aid people and medical students from the nearby Shawco union, busy chatting and joking amongst themselves; everywhere one could see people with cameras. The police closely supervised [the protest] from the sidelines. Later I would realise that Burg street was like a display cabinet when compared to Waal street. I'd have easily been able to just stay there, surrounded by the overall geniality, and participated in the chatting and joking - at the safe distance from which the press was observing and reporting - but a colleague pulled me closer. "Come, the protest at the cathedral has begun".

I went after her at jogging pace, around the bend, and saw from Burg street's corner that the protest at Waal street had so-to-say ground to a halt. We squeezed through a multi-racial row of neatly blue-attired SAP [South African Police] men and women: a non-racist and non-sexist façade presented [by the government] for the onlookers and the rest of the world... although representatives of the media were hidden; in high buildings, behind curtains, and in-between the "normal" shoppers at Greenmarket Square; due to the media being forbidden from covering political unrest. According to reports from Burg street, teargas and a water cannon with purple dye were used to "break up the illegal gathering". Just around the corner in Waal street where a second march from St George's Cathedral took place, it was a different story."<br />

== Stellenbosch to bid for Wikimania 2012! ==

Hi Ethnopunk!

The nascent [[:meta:Wikimedia South Africa|South African Wikimedia chapter]] has decided to bid to host Wikimania in Stellenbosch, South Africa in 2012. This would be the first Wikimania in South Africa, and would be a great advertisement for our country. Please take a look at [[:meta:Wikimania_2012/Bids/Stellenbosch]]. If you can add to the discussion, please do. If you feel that you are able to do anything to help, please join the [https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimediaza Wikimedia South Africa mailing list] and let us know. Even simple messages of support are valued!

== Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference ==

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse ([[Help_talk:Minor_edit#Should_we_remove_the_Preference_setting_to_.22Mark_all_edits_minor_by_default.22_.3F|consensus discussion]]). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was <code>true</code>. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to <code>false</code> in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is '''[[Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)/Archive_78#Preference_to_mark_all_edits_minor_by_default_asked_to_be_removed_in_bugzilla:24313|a workaround available]]''' involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by [[WP:MINOR]]). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of [[User:Jarry1250]], [[User:LivingBot|LivingBot]] ([[User talk:LivingBot|talk]]) 19:17, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

==File permission problem with File:Dntcover.jpg==
[[File:Copyright-problem.svg|64px|left|alt=|link=]]
Thanks for uploading '''[[:File:Dntcover.jpg]]'''. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
* make a note permitting reuse under the [[WP:CC-BY-SA|CC-BY-SA]] or another acceptable free license (see [[Wikipedia:File copyright tags/Free licenses|this list]]) '''at the site of the original publication'''; or
* Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to '''permissions-en@wikimedia.org''', stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter [[WP:CONSENT|here]]. If you take this step, add {{tl|permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to '''permissions-en@wikimedia.org'''.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at [[Wikipedia:Non-free content]], use a tag such as {{tl|non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at [[Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use]], and add a [[Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline|rationale]] justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See [[Wikipedia:File copyright tags]] for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is [[Special:ListFiles/Ethnopunk|a list of your uploads]]. '''Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged''', as described in [[Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#F11|section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion]]. If you have any questions please ask them at the [[Wikipedia:Media copyright questions|Media copyright questions page]]. ==Image copyright problem with File:Cape Town Ecology Group (postcard).jpg==
[[Image:Copyright-problem.svg|64px|left|alt=Image Copyright problem|link=]]
Thank you for uploading [[:File:Cape Town Ecology Group (postcard).jpg]].

This image is a [[derivative work]], containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the image description page states the source and copyright status of the derivative work, it only names the creator of the original work without specifying the status of their copyright over the work.

Wikipedia takes [[Wikipedia:Copyrights|copyright]] very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the '''license''' and the '''source''' of the original image. If you know this information, then you can add a '''[[Wikipedia:Image copyright tags|copyright tag]]''' to the [[Help:Image page|image description page]].

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in [{{fullurl:Special:Log|type=upload&user=Ethnopunk}} your upload log].

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the [[Wikipedia:Media copyright questions|media copyright questions page]]. {{You can request undeletion}} Thanks again for your cooperation.<!-- Template:Di-no license-notice --> —'''Matr1x-101''' <sub>('''''Ping me when replying''''')</sub> <nowiki>{</nowiki>''[[User:Matr1x-101|<sub>user page</sub>]] [[:commons:User:Matr1x-101|<sup>(@ commons)</sup>]] - [[User:Matr1x-101|<sub>talk</sub>]]<nowiki>}</nowiki>'' 15:10, 18 August 2023 (UTC)

== Wikimedia South Africa Engagement ==

Good Day Fellow Wikimedian

I write to invite you to a Wikimedia ZA birthday celebration which will take place on 22 February 2025 at the Goethe Institut in Parktown, Johannesburg and Code Bridge in Cape Town as well as online if you will not be able to join in person.

Wikimedia South Africa is a chapter founded on 25 February 2012 after being approved as a chapter by the Wikimedia Foundation on 26 March 2011. Our chapter seeks to promote local awareness of the projects and their proper academic use, encourage translation efforts into local languages and support the creation of local free knowledge and media

We are always looking to support South Africans or Africans in the promotion of free knowledge and to promote the enhancement of local knowledge in local languages on wikipedia and online for the benefit of all.

As a chapter engagement is an important strategic initiative and we would encourage you to check out the chapter on the links below.

Each month the Chapter hosts In-Person Meetups in Cape Town and Johannesburg where fellow Wikimedians and newcomers meet to enjoy refreshments and snacks and to discuss Wikipedia, Wikimedia South Africa initiatives and to isolate community needs.

In February our next Chapter Meetups will occur in person in Johannesburg at the Goethe Institut:

and in Cape Town at the Codebridge offices:

The Meetup will occur on Saturday the 22nd February 2025 between 10:30am and 12:30pm.

This meetup will be special as we will be celebrating the 13th Anniversary of Wikimedia South Africa and the 24th Anniversary of Wikipedia.
There will be refreshments and entertainment.

We will be reflecting on our past year as well as our plans for the Chapter in 2025 and would love for you to participate. If you are able to attend in person please RSVP so we can appropriately plan by completing the form by 12th February 2025:
