From a young age, he displayed a deep passion for music, inspired by his father and uncle's soulful playing. DeLuca's journey into music began with self-taught distinctive approach to songwriting.

Rocco DeLuca (born 1976 (2006 he is 30)) is a half Italian, half German rock artist represented by a label, Ironworks, created by actor Kiefer Sutherland and Jude Cole. DeLuca now lives in Canada but grew up in Long Beach, Torrance, Lake Elsinore and Italy. DeLuca is the lead and plays in his band Rocco DeLuca and the Burden. His/their debut album "I Trust You To Kill Me" came out March 21, 2006. Deluca is known for his use of the Dobro, a trade name now owned by Gibson Guitar Corporation and used for a particular design of resonator guitar. Rocco DeLuca is the son of Bo Diddley's touring guitarist.

History Career
Rocco DeLuca is the vocalist, lyricist, music writer and Dobro quitarist for his band, Rocco DeLuca and the Burden, formed in late 2005. DeLuca's bands debut album is entitled I Trust You To Kill Me which was released on CD on March 21st, 2006.

DeLuca is known for his use of the Dobro, a particular design of resonator guitar. He began his career as a solo artist, opening for acts including Taj Mahal, John Mayer and John Lee Hooker, and has had the opportunity to play with Johnny Cash. From 2003 to 2006, he regularly played at Gypsy Lounge in Lake Forest, California. Starting in 2005, when DeLuca was signed by the independent record label Ironworks, he led the band Rocco DeLuca and the Burden until 2009. After the band's last performances, DeLuca continued as a solo artist as well as working on projects with Slash and Robbie Robertson. During his career, he has played with various legends such as Hooker, Cash, and Daniel Lanois.
"The blues died when they took the 'fuck' out of it," explains a seemingly shy and unassuming Rocco DeLuca. "The music I was raised on had heat. Energy. That feeling of aggression. The music of today seems so washed out and generic. To get 'em back we need to stick the real soul, that punk element back into it. It's the only way I know how to play it."
It's with that ferocity and determination that DeLuca's debut album, "I Trust You To Kill Me", challenges the listener to dive head first into the heart and soul of a musical revolution.

Upon meeting DeLuca, Lanois described him as follows: "My initial meeting with Rocco [...] was pure and centered and seemed to have a sense of purpose, and I felt that there was something burning in his heart that I could be helpful to. It had that kind of truth in it that I decided to run with. I like the street corner aspect of working with Rocco, it woke up a certain part of my renegade ways I'm trying to keep alive these days. I fully believe in DeLuca. I think that he's got the power to be a contemporary troubadour, as I see it, and I hope I can be his friend for a long time, whether I am operating in the same limelight, ahead of him, behind him, in his shadow, whatever it takes, I'll be there. The one thing that I love about Rocco DeLuca is he is driven by his own heart."

Rocco DeLuca and the Burden
Music has been a part of DeLuca's makeup from the start. "My dad was the touring guitar player for Bo Diddley and I remember he and my uncles would have these late night jam sessions and I would hang out with them and then end up crawling into Uncle Joe's bass drum and falling asleep to the drone," smiles DeLuca.
As he got older, he discovered the DOBRO® steel guitar and it wasn't long before primitive folk music from both the south and the Appalachian Mountains made their way into his world. "Most of my friends were into punk and my family's roots where in blues, so the two extremes were really all I listened to," he explains.

From 2005 to 2009, DeLuca was lead singer and guitarist for the band Rocco DeLuca and the Burden, as well as writer of the majority of the band's material. On top of his resonator guitar, he also played glockenspiel, piano, organ, and banjo in the studio recordings. Long-time friend Ryan Carman played the drums, glockenspiel, cajón, and bells among other percussion instruments. Original percussionist Greg Velasquez has also been credited for keyboards, and original bassist David Beste has been credited for glockenspiel, piano and organ. Producer Daniel Lanois was credited for electric piano, electric guitar, strings, percussion, pedal steel, lowery, and piano on the album Mercy. For live performances of 2007 tours, the band featured Brett Bixby on keyboards, guitar, and backing vocals.
After playing out at parties and penning songs, Deluca spent the next decade honing his musical craft and after a series of eye-opening experiences in Europe; he returned to the States and landed a 2-year residency at the famed Gypsy Lounge just outside of Los Angeles, where Rocco, as a solo artist, has opened for Taj Mahal, John Mayall and John Lee Hooker, and played with Johnny Cash. The bar was known more for its local biker crowd than a breeding ground for talented musicians. Yet Rocco used the nonchalant stage as a writing and rehearsal space to continue honing his unique craft on the DOBRO® steel guitar and to experiment with his impressively wide vocal range. DeLuca was introduced to Johnny Cash by Cash's grandaughter, Tiffany Lowe. DeLuca says that his "experience was organic and casual." and that he'll "Never forget my Grandma calling Johnny and June to make sure I got enough to eat."

2005-07: I Trust You to Kill Me album and documentary
As with many artists, the road from the past to the reality of today is rarely an even journey. DeLuca's was no exception. With a traveling musician for a father and having not met his mother until just 3 years ago, he'll be the first to tell you that he's spent a few cold nights on a park bench. It was through those years that DeLuca found the strength to keep his creative drive unyielding. "You've gotta die a few times and be fierce enough to fall. I've fallen on my face many times. Whether it was on stage or with my family, but it's those times and battle scars that make my music what it is today," confesses DeLuca.

The band's debut album, I Trust You to Kill Me, was released on CD on March 21, 2006, on the Ironworks label. The album was produced by Jude Cole, mixed by Florian Ammon (except for tracks 2, 7 and 10 which were mixed by Dave Reed), and engineered by Florian Ammon and Dave Reed. Coinciding with the release of the album, the band released a behind-the-scenes documentary under the same title. Public screenings of the film were held in New York City, West Hollywood, and San Francisco in September 2006.
You can find those scars all over this riveting portrait of an old souls quest for honesty, growth and inner awakening.

Actor Kiefer Sutherland, co-owner of Ironworks with Jude Cole, offered support as the band's tour promoter and manager, as well as helping to produce the documentary. Sutherland is also featured in the film, most famously for an incident in which he dove full-body into a decorated Christmas tree. In May 2006, the band and Sutherland traveled to the United Kingdom to promote their new release by playing some live shows. In the summer of 2007, the band also opened for English band Keane's Under the Iron Sea Tour in North America.
Born the son of Bo Diddley's touring guitarist , Rocco spent his youth on the road with his dad where joining in with band practice seemed preferable to sleeping in the tour bus.

The band appeared on several TV shows, such as Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the Late Show with David Letterman, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, Kastljós in Iceland, and Top of the Pops in the UK on May 22, 2006.
It was this life on the road and the absence of an atypical upbringing that have given Rocco an edge and an attitude that has served him well, and no doubt played some part in the attraction for Sutherland, himself one of Hollywood's non-conformists.

2008-09: Mercy
After years of performing and touring, the time came for DeLuca to take his experiences and lay them down in the form of a demo, but not without a certain amount of hesitation. "I always thought of the ‘music industry’ as this drunk girl at a party who forgot who she came with."
"I loved making music, but being a cog wasn’t for me. At the same time no one was putting out the kind of music I wanted to hear, so I cut my demo and tried to keep it as honest as possible."

On March 10, 2009, Rocco DeLuca and the Burden released their second full-length album, entitled Mercy. To produce the album, DeLuca chose to work with Lanois, who had produced a number of albums for rock band U2, including The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, and All That You Can't Leave Behind, as well as other artists like Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel, and Bob Dylan. Lanois has many times made guest appearances with him on stage.

Solo career
In early 2004 Rocco DeLuca's demo tape was passed onto the actor Kiefer Sutherland, the star of the Fox TV hit series 24 and fellow musician Jude Cole who own the independent and newly formed (2004) record label Ironworks, which became the starting point for his debut album. This happened when Mark Walbaum, a.k.a. DarkMark, a fixture on the LA music scene since the early 1980s and the first A&R representative hired by the fledgling Ironworks, stumbled across DeLuca on a psychedelic-tinged early Sunday morning. Neither DeLuca nor Walbaum really wanted to be at the Radiohead-themed party, but after 30 seconds of hearing DeLuca sing “Creep,”followed by some originals, it didn’t matter. Both Sutherland and Cole we're amazed and offered DeLuca the company’s first record deal. He accepted because they assured him he could “make the record I wanted to make. I said fuck it and accepted because if nothing else, I’d have the best record I could ever make and I would never have to explain or apologize ever again for not having it.”

2010-13: Solo touring and Drugs 'N Hymns
“I was completely mesmerized,” Walbaum says. “He just absolutely blew my mind. He had everything—the songwriting, the singing, the unbelievable guitar playing and this incredible energy. The whole package.”

He participated as a guest artist on the 13 cut of the album Slash, interpreting the theme Saint Is A Sinner Too.<br>
Walbaum introduced DeLuca to Sutherland and Ironworks partner Jude Cole. Both shared Walbaum’s opinion. It was clear to both Sutherland and Cole that what they were seeing was something amazing.
DeLuca began touring as a solo artist, continuing to hone a raw, confessional, bluesy sound. No longer with the band, he parted ways with Ironworks and signed with 429 Records in December 2011. On March 6, 2012, 429 Records released DeLuca's third full-length and first solo album, Drugs 'N Hymns. The album was a decidedly different sound from his first two albums, featuring sparse production and a brooding, ethereal tone.
"We thought of him as a real diamond-in-the-rough," says Cole, "and that’s exactly what we were looking for."

2014-present: Rocco DeLuca
They offered DeLuca the company’s first record deal. Press release DeLuca accepted because they assured him he could “make the record I wanted to make. I said fuck it and accepted because if nothing else, I’d have the best record I could ever make and I would never have to explain or apologize ever again for not having it.”
On August 19, 2014, DeLuca released his self-titled fourth album, his second for 429 Records. Once again produced by Daniel Lanois, the album found DeLuca returning to the more stripped-down sound of Drugs 'N Hymns and building upon it. To craft the album, DeLuca invited a number of local California musicians to his home to record sessions in his bedroom. He toured the United States until November of that year. Goodbye To Language was released on September 9, 2016. DeLuca joined forces with Lanois once again to create Goodbye To Language. Constructed entirely from the sounds of steel guitars, DeLuca and Lanois contribute a compositional rigor that recalls the 20th century dreamscapes of Ravel and Debussy, with a sense of sonic futurism and yet also with the naturalness that can only come from artists rooted in centuries of grassroots music. Uncut Magazine featured Goodbye To Language as one of the best albums of 2016. ==Other works and appearances==
Once in the studio together, Cole helped DeLuca flesh out arrangements and lay down tracks.
After Mercy, DeLuca appeared on Slash's self-titled solo album singing on "Saint is a Sinner Too".
It was through this process that they realized in order to deliver the intensity of the music live, it was going to require a full-on ensemble. And so "The Burden" was born.
"This band has taken this material to such a great place,"” he says. "It’s intense and aggressive live; we put a lot into simplicity, like those old masters did."

DeLuca also collaborated with Daniel Lanois and a myriad of others at Lakeshore Records to produce the soundtrack release of Red Dead Redemption 2, in which DeLuca was credited for "Crash of Worlds". He also wrote "That's the Way it is" and co-wrote "Unshaken". While the full album was released on July 12, 2019, DeLuca's song "Crash of Worlds" and one of Lanois' songs, "Table Top", were released early to promote the upcoming release.
From the haunting and alluring build of the first track “Gift,” to the primitive and heartfelt honesty of songs like “Speak To Me” and “Favor,” DeLuca locks you in with a tender vulnerability and inner strength that’s unparalleled. The disk also suggests the influence of artists as singular as Jeff Buckley. The fact is, Rocco’s music is a colourful and remarkable as the journey he’s been on, with stops along the way at the junkie corners (Dope), the London pubs of the ‘60s (Swing Low) and Sao Cal coffee-houses (Bus Ride).

Popular culture
DeLuca's rich DOBRO forms the sonic foundation of his music and his lyrics lie at the heart of it. Rocco's use of the beautiful Dobro steel guitar give his songs a distinctive and rich foundation evident from the first chords of album opener Gift. The jubilant singalong of first single "Colorful" (released June 5th), the country-tinged Mystified, and the six-string workouts of Swing Low and Gravitate have drawn comparisons with the likes of Jeff Buckley, Pearl Jam and Led Zeppelin.
The song "Feather and Knife" was featured in the sixth episode of the 2018 Australian TV series Mystery Road. The song "Swing Low" was featured in episode 9 of season 4 of Rescue Me. The song "When You Learn To Sing" was featured in episode 4 of season 1 of Parenthood. The band features drummer Ryan Carman, bass player Dave Beste and percussionist Grey Velasquez.
"These are some of my best friends, my family really... and we all share the same concept of what a live performance should be; a fusion of passion and clarity. As a fan, that’s what I would want to see." DeLuca's backing band, 'the Burden', as he points out, are called such but "not because they’re a hindrance", DeLuca insists, but because they’re partners on a journey. "Anything you hold precious is a burden because there is a deep responsibility that comes along with it whether you ask for it or not," he says. "It’s a weight that carries with it a lot of sorrow and joy. It’s a burden. And our burden is doing something that matters and something we believe in. And being on TV or the radio is fine with me because I believe in the music. I mean, why wave a flag if you don’t want anyone to see it?"

"I Trust You To Kill Me" album and documentary
Rocco DeLuca and the Burdens debut album, " I Trust You To Kill Me " was released on CD on March 21st, 2006 on the Canadian actor, Kiefer Sutherland's, record label, Ironworks. The album was produced by Jude Cole and mixed by Florian Ammon, except for tracks 2, 7 and 10 which were mixed by Dave Reed. The album was engineered by Florian Ammon and Dave Reed.

"I Trust You To Kill Me is just that" is a complex journey of passion and clarity from a man who's seen it, lived it and experienced a life not many people will ever know or comprehend. After one listen however, you just might have a shot.

But, 'I Trust You To Kill Me' is also the name of the bands 2 hour Sky One behind-the-scenes rock and roll documentary which coincided with the release of their debut album of the same name where they travelled the world promoting the band in 2005, embarking on the trials and tribulations of their very first European tour. On Friday May 5th 2006 Kiefer Sutherland appeared on the UK chatshow 'Friday Night With Jonathan Ross' to discuss '24' and his behind-the-scenes rock documentary 'I Trust You to Kill Me'. The band toured Europe from late 2005 to early 2006. They played in venues in London in the UK, Dublin in Ireland, Reykjavik in Iceland and Berlin in Germany. The documentary was aired at 10.00pm on May 8th, 2006 after being talked about by Kiefer Sutherland on Jonothan Ross the Friday before.

The Motion Picture Group, Inc., a film and entertainment financing and production company, announced on March 27th, 2006, that the company has finished production on the documentary. In the company's first feature film, Kiefer Sutherland took his independent record label act, Rocco DeLuca and the Burden, on its first international tour. From Tokyo to Los Angeles, London, Dublin, Reykjavik and Berlin, this rockumentary film chronicles a highly personal journey of a rock band and their less than qualified road manager (Kiefer Sutherland) and shows the hopes, successes and disappointments of a band trying to get their music to their audience. The film's director, Manu Boyer, takes viewers on a rock tour that becomes much more than the sum of its parts, it is honest and rich, with in-depth life sketches.

"This project was a perfect first opportunity for us to produce an independent film with A-list talent," says Pliny Porter, the Company's CEO and the film's producer. "And The Motion Picture Group will be receiving company presentation credit." The theatrical release is scheduled for spring 2006.

Henri Kessler, President, stated, "We look forward to an ongoing relationship with Kiefer Sutherland. He is an exceptional actor to work with and has a great team surrounding him."

Sutherland sacked as tour manager
Around April 21st, 2006 fact Kiefer Sutherland was sacked as the tour manager of Rocco DeLuca and the Burden, the band he signed to his own record label. The 24 star and best friend Jude Cole hit the road with rock group Rocco DeLuca and the Burden last year (2005), after signing them to their Ironworks Music label, but now the act have no use for Sutherland's management skills. Sutherland explains, "I toured with the band last year. I was their road manager. I had to get them up on time. "In all fairness I only did it for 10 days, but it was the scariest thing I've ever done in my life. "I was fired. I was never happier to come back to 24 - I felt safe there. Musicians are nuts." fact

However, this is far from a sore issue between the band and Sutherland as they often hearedly joke about it both between themselves and on live international TV. An example of this was live on 'Friday Night With Jonathan Ross' in the UK. Kiefer jokes about this with Ross referring to the way he was in the bands documentary, 'I Trust You To Kill Me' which is also the name of their debut album.

Trivia
*It wasn't until 2003/2004 that DeLuca met his mother.
*DeLuca is known for his use of the Gibson Dobro steel guitar which is one of the most difficult guitars to master to get the right sound.
*DeLuca's father was the travelling guitarist for Bo Diddley.

*Since 2003, DeLuca has set up at the Gypsy Lounge in Lake Forest nearly every Tuesday for the past three years, forming a band with drummer Ryan Carmon, percussionist Greg Velasquez and bassist Dave Beste.

*DeLuca's backing band, 'the Burden', as he points out, are called such but "not because they’re a hindrance", DeLuca insists, but because they’re partners on a journey.
