ANI or AE?
Hello, I'm asking your advice on the dispute with Volunteer Marek. Please note that while I'm not a newcomer, I'm relatively inexperienced about conflict resolution on en.wiki. <br> Recently I had this conversation with User:Boud. The topic is withdrawing my ANI complaint and opening an AE request. At ANI you invited us to find a compromise. While I think that that is both desirable and possible with regard to the contents of the article on war crimes, I doubt we can compromise on civility. But the point is: as a relatively inexperienced editor, I might have misunderstood the standards of civility and tendentiousness that this community deems acceptable. If that is the case, I'd rather stop it here, don't waste my and other people's time, and possibly move to less controversial topic areas leaving the floor to others who have the stomach for this. If, on the other side, I haven't made a blatant mistake on civility and tendentiousness, and Volunteer Marek's behaviours are contrary to our guidelines and policies, or at least they are in a "grey area" where reasonable people could disagree on their appropriateness, then I'd be happy to bring the case to AE. <br> I'm not particularly keen on writing another complaint and I'm aware that this could easily backfire, but it might be worth it: exposing the way they behave and asking AE to uphold our policies might be the right thing to do, as I think that their contribution is quite harmful in that topic area. If in the process I get topic banned or blocked, that would be unpleasant, but not too hard to deal with: I have other projects and interests. <br> So the question for you is: AE or not AE? Your advice is very much appreciated. Gitz (talk) (contribs) 00:40, 24 June 2022 (UTC)

*Well, I might be too thick-skinned myself but I would have let the issue die if I were in your shoes. Find a compromise on the article and forget about some impolite discussion in between. I know User:Volunteer Marek for many years, occasionally the contacts were frustrating but overall he is a good guy. Anyway it is your choice. We have a policy WP:FORUMSHOP that discourages going with someone's grievances to another forum if the decision of the first one is unsatisfactory. We have a dozen of different forums with intersecting authority and if somebody would go to all of them he or she would eventually get their foe block. I do not see any quick exit out of it. I guess if WP:AN/I decision would not help the problem in a week you can try another forum WP:AE. On the other hand discouragement is not forbidding I guess you can drop a notice to WP:AE maybe with a link to WP:AN/I and ask if they think the issue is covered by WP:ARBEE - the arcom decision that sets simplified blocking policy for the tendentious editing in the area of Eastern European and Balkan issues. This is your choice Alex Bakharev (talk) 03:32, 24 June 2022 (UTC)
*:Thank you for the explanation and advice. I thought about it and decided to follow your suggestion: I will not pursue the matter further. In fact, I agree that WP:FORUMSHOP clearly applies to a case as this one. Out of inexperience I might have made a wrong decision about the best venue for addressing my quarrel, but VM cannot be burden with my procedural mistakes, and that would also be unfair to the editors who commented at AN/I. I should have followed Boud's advise immediately and asked to transfer the case at AE. However, I think that that mistake of mine will not prevent me from opening an AE request in case of future behaviours by VM that I deem disruptive or uncivil. If and when I will raise a case at AE, I will share a link to the discussion at AN/I, and I will hope that that doesn't fall under WP:FORMUSHOP. Thank you again for your time and consideration. Thank you for doing that. I don't believe him, because I know how they work, i've seen Datelines abiut this thing. They try to interact with your interests, try to get you alone, then they do something sexual to you and kill you. SO I know better. :Since I've become involved on the outskirts of this, I do want to point out that this could, indeed be an innocent situation. The vast majority of people are not the predators Dateline shows, and, in fact, a child is much more likely (by orders of magnitude) to be sexually abused by a relative or other caregiver than by a stranger. Dateline's entrapment operations make for good TV, but they distort the real dangers that young people face every day.

:Speaking partricularly of this matter, all we know for sure is that he offered to have you look at his Edsel, since you like Edsels. He may not necessarily have realized your age, since several userboxes on your userpage describe you as the owner/driver of various cars. In any regard, even if he did know your age, he made no improper suggestion to you. To my view, the response that this guy's message has garnered is out of all proportion to what he actually said. Based on the complaint & response, this guy was banned from this project for a month & a request was placed on a list to have his ISP notified of what he was accused of. He's apparently explained the situation to Alex Bakharev's satisfaction, and these actions were reversed. Is there something I'm not seeing? --Ssbohio 21:51, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

<!-- Message sent by User:Bri@enwiki using the list at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost/Subscribe&oldid=1143646876 -->
Thank you for protecting this article, User:Afrika paprika has really been causing us trouble with the article, he was even blocked for reverting and he keeps removing this referenced sentence. Now at the moment you protected it, Afrika paprika edited it again and removed this very sentence where it describes that Tesla was Serbian-American. Afrika paprika provides no references for his claims, he tries to accent the part that Tesla was born in Croatia and sidestep the part about him being a Serb, which is not NPOV. Now, I ask you to save the version of the article to any edit made before Afrika paprika (I prefer this version by Lowg) and then Afrika paprika might just figure out that Wikipedians need to provide good sources for their claims, and that deleting referenced text is considered vandalism. Thank you. --K<small>OCOBO</small> 19:40, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

::Hi, can you take a look at the Nikola Tesla page again? Afrika Paprika still keeps reverting while not providing any concrete references for his claims. See this newly created user User:BobShoe and his edits: the style/grammar suggests it's SuperDeng again. The odd English sentences and grammar mishaps by Deng (a classic example:) are very much similar to those written by this 'new' user . == Pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity ==
Libya
Hi,

I've recently added Libya to the list of featured article candidates. Overall the candidature is going well with many of the objections now sorted out. The final concrete objection is with the article's prose. I have been the main contributor to the article and have been looking at it for the previous 9 - 10 months. My eyes no longer see it freshly, so I am not a suitable copy-editor!
Established policy provides for removal of the administrative permissions of users who have not made any edits or logged actions in the preceding twelve months. Because you have been inactive, your administrative permissions will be removed&#32;if you do not return to activity within the next month.

Inactive administrators are encouraged to rejoin the project in earnest rather than to make token edits to avoid loss of administrative permissions. Resources and support for reengaging with the project are available at Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/administrators. If you do not intend to rejoin the project in the foreseeable future, please consider voluntarily resigning your administrative permissions by making a request at the bureaucrats' noticeboard.
To meet the final demand of copy editing, I have been advised to ask different people to edit parts of the article.

Thank you for your past contributions to the project. <!-- Template:Inactive admin -->—&thinsp;JJMC89 bot 00:15, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
I would really love to get this article featured as you can probably see from the page's history! I've worked very hard on it and I see this as possibly being the final hurdle.

Imminent suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity
You can see the prose objections, mostly raised by Sandy, on the candidature page. If you have the time, please choose a section (Politics, Religion, Culture etc.) and <s>copyedit<s>, <s>perfect<s>, ace it! I would be very grateful with any help I can get.

Thanks a lot,

Hi, Alex - I know you voted on this, so cannot do it yourself, but I wonder if you could point an other administrator to this and have it closed (enough votes, enough examples of disription, high enough percentage of delte votes). Of all the moderators I know, either I am having a lttle problem with them (something to do with tango - not that I expect those who were on the other side to rule "keep" by the way) or they have already voted - the exception being CrazyRussian, but I doubt whether Mbuk et al will appreciate if he closes it. Thanks in advance if you are able to find someone.--Pan Gerwazy 20:23, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

:And thanks after the fact, of course. I guess I now know why it was so disruptive: the "because" thing invited people to put up an NPOV template even when they knew in their hearts it was not the reason why they were objecting, but they could somehow explain it away with the "because" clause. "Martin Luther" was even a better example than "Russian architecture": there it was put up when plagiarism was claimed - making rewriting necessary, which made some editors very happy, since they hoped that that way the text could be moved towards their point of view. I have learned a lot reading these talk pages. --Pan Gerwazy 21:49, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

:::I don't know what they could do. Obviously from the logs collected at Wikipedia:Long term abuse/Roitr, he just uses new IP addresses every other day or so, probably just from resetting a cable modem, for example. Fortunately (!?!) his actions are constrained to a small set of articles, so it's easy to spot the new editing activity. For example, I am an active editor on the Olympic pages, so I have come across his edits very soon after they are made, over several pages in the past few months. As long as I can get a block applied on individual articles from individual IP addresses, he can be stopped before the revert wars escalate. How can I do that? What is the process? I think for a long-term abuser like Roitr, blocks can and should be applied immediately, with no warning period etc. He does not respond to 3RR warnings. *I have blocked Alexisha and the IP socks. I do not see the need to semiprotect the Russian Empire at that stage abakharev 21:36, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi, many years ago, this user:piotrus frustrated me quite a lot with his views about Russian history at Talk:Tsarist_autocracy#My_two_cents._Article_deletion.. Somehow, I stumbled across this very old discussion about what you labelled 'concentrated stalking and attacks against Russavia' and saw that this person was involved ]

So many years ago, I was frustrated by the way Wikipedia functions, allowing an uninformed person like Piotrus to google some things and then set up a misguided article, only to defend it forever by referring to some vague quotes on google books. Books he has never read, not understanding the underlying scholarly debates, not understanding which publications are good and which ones are marginal. So much for WP:OR, right?
*I just saw Jimbo's talk page and your initial actions on July 13 User:Karrmann were exemplary given what was known at the time. Excellent judgment -- <b>Samir</b> <small><font color="black">धर्म</font></small> 22:06, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

You don't really need to answer this, but do you think the involvement of Piotrus in that earlier stuff about Russavia means that Piotrus simply wanted to put the monarchy in Russia in a particular light, without caring about academic accuracy? #I want to nominate your article Imiaslavie for Wikipedia:Featured article candidates. Is this OK with you?
#I currently trying to write an article :ru:Катакомбная церковь. Any interest? Thanks. - Vald 09:05, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
#* It is OK with me, but it required a lot of work to bring this article to FA status, we might need more sources and better sources, to have a native speaker to copyedit the article etc. I will need help
#* Yes, it is a facinated subject. The problem I don't know much about it, though I have found that it often easier to write a wiki article when you know less about the subject abakharev 10:00, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
