It uses a [[metaobject protocol]] (MOP) to provide services for [[language extension]]sextensions. [[Michiaki Tatsubori]] was the lead developer of OpenJava. This isn't to be confused with [[OpenJDK]], which is the open source release of the Java compiler runtime and tools.
