Merger
GEFS should be merged with GEFS+ since the current GEFS article actually describes GEFS+. If someone wants to redo the GEFS page and make it actually describe GEFS then that'd make sense. I'll merge after two weeks if there are no complaints/changes to GEFS. --Dpryan 23:55, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Dravet Syndrome
They have recently discovered a cure for Dravet Syndrome with no side effects. It is called: Cannabis Oil Containing CBD (Cannabidiol).

:Yes, this article needs some mention of cannabis treatment. There may be very little scientific research, but there is some, and there has certainly been a lot of media attention given to this form of treatment. It's becoming something of a political issue in itself, with groups of parents forming around the country to agitate for medical marijuana so they can treat their Dravet children. It played into Chris Christie's decision to legalize MMJ for kids in NJ, as well. So I definitely think this needs some discussion.Ctnelsen (talk)
:Yes, there should be some mention of cannabis treatment but you are claiming it cures Dravet sydrome, which is harmful. Charlotte Figi still has seizures, yes they are less but she still has them. Also, anecdotal evidence isn't the same as data. The clinical data isn't all in yet. ==Mutations Listed in Table 1==
I have an interest in the W1204X mutation of SCN1A so I looked up the reference given in Table 1 (12566275), it only mentions W1204X in a note under one of the diagrams, and refers to earlier 2002 paper by Sugawara (11940708). In that earlier paper Patient 14 does indeed have the W1204X mutation of SCN1A but is only ever mentioned in relation to SMEI/Dravet rather than GEFS+. So why does the heading of the table say 'Summary of mutations found in patients diagnosed with GEFS+ type 2'. Because the patient in question was never diagnosed with that. In short, I'm sceptical of that table - the reference I followed just doesn't justify what the table says about it. ::This appears to be primarily based on primary sources
::Currently cannabidiol-enriched cannabis (known as Charlotte's Web or FDA approved orphan drug Epidiolex (which is a cannabis product) are being studied as an effective treatment for this condition. In Wisconsin, the state committee on children and families passed a bill last week to allow the use of CBD oil in the treatment of seizure disorders. Sources:
