The FastStone Image Viewer was first released in [[2004]] by [[FastStone Soft]]. Since then, a new stable version of the program has been released every few weeks to few months. The latest released stable version of the program is version 2.7 which was released on [[October 18]], [[2006]].

As of late October 2006, it appears their web site is down at least temporarily and their download has been removed from some of the major sites such as Download.com and Snapfiles.com Speculation seems to be that the product may make a complete move to a commercial title either internally or through an outside purchase of the product.
