Career
Outlandish is a Danish hip-hop group based in Denmark. Formed in 1997, they consist of Isam Bachiri Azouaoui (born in Denmark and of Moroccan background), Waqas Ali Qadri (born in Denmark and of Pakistani background), and Lenny Martinez (from Honduras). All three members are religious, with Isam and Waqas being devout Muslims, and Lenny being Catholic. The band members lived in Brøndby Strand.
Their first formation consists of Isam Bachiri, Waqas Ali Qadri, and . All three members are religious, with Isam and Waqas being Muslims (of Moroccan and Pakistani origins, respectively) and Lenny being Catholic of Cuban and Honduran descent.

Their first single "Pacific to Pacific" was used in connection with an Amnesty International charity event. Next came the single "Saturday Night", a song that was later included on the soundtrack for the Danish film Pizza King.
History
Outlandish's R&B/Hip-hop/Rap/soul music takes influences from their various backgrounds (Arab, Indo-Pakistani, and Latin music), and although their songs are primarily in English, they usually feature lyrics in Spanish, Urdu, Danish, and Arabic. All these influences make the music of Outlandish somewhat unique and this is easy to notice from the variety of genres covered in their albums. Outlandish often include themes about Islam and contemporary issues facing young Muslims in the west in their music, and sometimes their songs define an urban nasheed-like unique genre.

The lyrics of their song "Look Into My Eyes" are based on a poem by Gihad Ali, a Palestinian who wrote the piece when she was a teenager; the poem expresses the plight of those suffering from America's foreign policy with regards to Israel and Palestine. The video is based around the fairy-tale Little Red Riding Hood. It portrays an Israeli soldier as the Wolf and the Palestinian girl, wearing a keffiyeh (Arab scarf), as Little Red Riding Hood.
Their single "Pacific To Pacific" was in connection with an Amnesty International charity event. Next came the single "Saturday Night", a song that was later to be included on the soundtrack for the Danish movie Pizza King. These singles were the prelude to their first album Outland's Official (2000) which was however only released in Denmark. The hit song "Walou" was later included on their second album Bread and Barrels of Water.

Their single "Kom Igen" is featured on EA Sports game, FIFA 07.
Closer than Veins (2005) is Outlandish's much anticipated third album. The first single was "Look Into My Eyes". The song's lyrics are based on a poem by Gihad Ali expressing the plight of those suffering from America’s foreign policy with regards to Israel and Palestine. This album showcased the group's more mature outlook compared to their previous works. Apart from "Look Into My Eyes", and "I've seen" that laments the plight of Muslim peoples across the world, tracks such as Just Me and Una Palabra give a rare insight into the life in Europe today as seen through the eyes of a second generation immigrant, whereas "Nothing Left To Do" boldly tackles the still taboo ridden issue of a young muslim man catching HIV "Warm smile – long blond hair/Pretty green eyes and skin damned fair/For sure lucky to get with a girl like that/Couldn’t pass this chance no matter what...Pretty woman though, not all she seemed/Soon grim reality and not a dream/Wasn’t the first certainly not her last/Moment of weakness, became victim of her past." Where Outlandish wrote all tracks on their first two albums Closer than Veins marked a departure in this respect particularly on the socially and politically heavy side the group has called in lyrical reinforcements. "Look Into My Eyes" is principally written by Gihad Ali, whereas "Just Me", "Una Palabra" and "Nothing Left To Do" are principally written by Omar Shah, who has also written Isam Bachiri's lyrics on "Try Not To Cry".

Sound of a Rebel, Outlandish's fifth album was released on 11 May 2009. Its first single was "Rock All Day".
The album features a track ("I've Seen") with Sami Yusuf (a popular Muslim musician / nasheed artist). Outlandish have contributed to a track on Sami Yusuf's recent album My Ummah (2005) called "Try Not To Cry", and Waqas Ali Qadri also features on the nasheed boy-band 786's "Meditate" from their album Straight Path (2005). Such collaborations between artists are becoming increasingly popular in the Muslim music world. Other Danish music contemporaries who have occasionally collaborated with Outlandish include Majid and Burhan G.

The group disbanded in 2017 as each member wanted to pursue personal projects. In 2019 band members Waqas and Lenny brought back the band as a duo while Isam continued to pursue a solo career. Outlandish has since released two singles and recently release a new album, titled The Cornershop Carnival.

Their club thumping single "Kom Igen" is featured on EA's FIFA 2007.

In 2004 during a concert in Musikhuset Aarhus Outlandish ordered a ban on alcohol sales during their performance because of the two Muslim members of the group. In 2019 Isam Bachiri stated about the episode with ban on alcohol sales that: ”… With regard to the ban of alcohol it was not a ban. We just asked to close down the bar while we performed. Prior and after the concert the people could do what they wanted. I have the belief I have, and it can tarnish one’s reputation when one is a public person and sticks the nose in.”

In 2006 the Danish tabloid newspaper BT reported that the two Muslim members of the group had the Norwegian singer Herborg Kråkevik removed to another point on stage in a Danish television program on the grounds that she had bare shoulders. A press responsible person from the record label of the group commented that it "is part of their religion. In 2007 Isam Bachiri and Waqas Qaadri performed at the large annual Canadian Muslim event Reviving the Islamic Spirit. At that occasion, the Danish tabloid BT wrote that the group performed for "extreme islamists", and that phrases like "the homosexuals should be punished with death" and "the Jews will encounter their demise" appeared at the conference. Outlandish denied the accusations. They stated that the conference was a peaceful Muslim convention whose main goal is to create integration and peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Non-Muslims in North America and mentioned that the highly respected American rabbi Michael Lerner had been an honorary guest and speaker at the conference. Associate Professor Torben Ruberg Rasmussen from University of Southern Denmark backed the statements of the group and he commented that: "There is no reason to condemn the event, and it is not a case of closet radicalism or anything reminding of that."<ref>[https://www.dr.dk/nyheder/kultur/outlandish-forundret-over-df-kritik Outlandish puzzled over criticism from Danish People's Party.
