The armour of wrought iron consisted of a 7-8.7” belt (220mm thick on a 800mm thick layer of wood) while the turret was protected by 7”. * To my knowledge, I am the only person to have hit a snake while flying. The snake, which had been released from an eagle's talons that was startled by my approaching aircraft, collided with the propeller. All three parties involved (the snake, the eagle, and me) were unhappy with the result of the incident.
