My primary aims on Wikipedia, and what I try to encourage are - knowing and understanding Wikipedia policies (not just words, but what they mean and why they're there); being civil with other users and always attempting to find resolution, although realising when resolution is probably impossible and calling in admin help; producing or collaborating to produce articles of a Good or Featured standard; and not biting the newbies. Too strict an interpretation of policy produces a legalistic atmosphere and boring articles, too loose an interpretation produces an anarchy of sorts and unreliable/potentially offensive articles, so it's a matter of striking a balance.
