At the age of 8, Tong first appeared in director John Woo's action-comedy ''[[Once a Thief (1991 film)|Once A Thief]]'', which was nominated for several categories at the 11th Annual [[Hong Kong Film Awards]]. TVB then recruited Tong as a childstarchild star, and she has since appeared in works such as ''[[The Greed of Man]]'' and ''[[State of Divinity]]''. Tong is not signed under TVB management but continues acting in numerous TVB series. She was casted in ''[[Twin of Brothers]]'', the first major TVB production starring newcomers.
 
Tong received a boost in her career after the great success of TVB series ''[[Square Pegs]]'', starring [[Roger Kwok]] and [[Jessica Hsuen]], which broke TVB's all-time record for the highest rated television drama in 2003. The sequel ''[[Life Made Simple]]'' was released two years later, with the original cast and a few new actors. At the end of its run ''Life'' broke TVB's rating record for a TVB series, with highest single night rating of 43 points, and became the third best rated TVB series in 2005. Tong has been nominated for TVB's "Most Improved Actress" award several times. In 2005, she made it to the top 10 list with both her nominations: her character as Angel in ''Life Made Simple'', and as Ha Hiu Ching in ''[[The Last Breakthrough]]''. In 2006, two of her series has been released: ''[[Bar Bender]]'' and ''[[War and Destiny]]'' (only overseas).
