Rex''' (a volte anche scritto come '''T Rex''' o '''T-Rex'''), noti fino al [[1970]] con il nome di '''Tyrannosaurus Rex''', sono stati un gruppo [[rock]] [[Regno Unito|britannico]] fondato a [[Londra]] nel [[1967]] da [[Marc Bolan]]. È considerato il gruppo che ha dato vita alla corrente del [[rock]] denominata [[glam rock]]<ref>{{cita web|http://www.ondarock.it/pietremiliari/trex_electricwarrior.htm | T. Rex - Electric Warrior :: Le pietre miliari di Onda Rock | 7 luglio 2016}}</ref> genere poi perfezionato da [[David Bowie]].<ref name=aus71/>. La band si sciolse definitivamente alla morte del suo fondatore, nel [[1977]].
Nella Gran Bretagna dei primi anni settanta {{Citazione necessaria|in termini di popolarità presso il pubblico giovane il gruppo era secondo solo ai [[Rolling Stones]] e a [[The Who]]}}. Successivamente, a partire dal [[1973]], altre personalità di spicco della corrente, quali [[David Bowie]] e i [[Queen]], iniziarono a mettere in ombra la ''band''. Il repertorio dei T. Rex copre gran parte degli anni settanta fino all'avvento del [[punk rock]]. Il gruppo, infatti, sotto alcuni aspetti, può considerarsi tra i precursori del punk rock ([[proto-punk]])<ref name="allmusic.com" />.
Nel settembre del [[1977]] Marc Bolan, che si era nel frattempo guadagnato una certa popolarità grazie al programma televisivo ''Marc'', da lui stesso presentato, annunciò che avrebbe voluto riformare di nuovo i T. Rex con la formazione originale (con Tony Visconti come produttore). All'alba del 16 settembre Marc Bolan morì in un incidente d'auto: l'automobile su cui viaggiava (guidata da Gloria Jones) si schiantò contro un albero, a seguito dello scoppio di un pneumatico. La morte di Bolan segnò la fine dei T. Rex.
