Line 3:
The production of a summary description of nature in the form of such laws is the fundamental aim of science. Laws of nature are distinct from the law, either religious or civil, and should not be confused with the concept of natural law.
Moreover, "law of nature" and "proposition (or formula) expressing a law of nature" are often used synonymously. However, taken strictly, there is a difference between law-propositions (or formulas), which, qua being formulations of laws, are semiotic entities, and laws (of nature), which are non-semiotic entities. Laws of nature exist independently of their physical formulations.
