the f/a-18 shouldn't be here |

Line 358:
The Hornet was also featured in the Hollywood film Independence Day. Inaccurately, some F/A-18s in the film were seen with markings from the United States Air Force, the Israeli Air Force, and the Iraqi Air Force. They were also erroneously equipped with a drogue parachute that deployed from beneath the speed brake between the vertical stabilizers.
Future
However some may think of the Hornet to be up to date and possibly superior to the new genaration of fighters, such as the F-22, JSF, French Rafale, and Eurofighter. When in fact it is inferior to all of these fighters, because it is a multirole, it is replacing attackers and air superiority fighters, such as the F-14 Tomcat and A-7II Corsair, which fill comepletely different roles. By 2008, the Hornet will be the only fighter on carriers. It has poor fusalage and poor range. The F/A-18E/F is an aircraft with a more recent wing, fuselage and empennage, and is thus a new aircraft, F/A-18C's cannot be modified to be a Super Horne, yet the USN proposed this aircraft as a 'modification program' when clearly it is only a Hornet by name. When new aircraft are proposed they need Congress approval and the Super Hornet never got that approval and is thus an illegal aircraft. In the early ninties, an F/A-18 was shot down by a MiG-25 Foxbat, an intercept aircraft that wasn't even disigned to dogfight! The Hornet should be used to combat lower threats and as an auxillary aircraft, since it is easy to repair and is a multi-role.
