David Wisdom was born into a family of touring actors in England, but moved to Vancouver at a young age. He grew up in an atmosphere of theatre, music and art, and these early influences continue to be central to his life.

On the strength of his broad musical knowledge gained from amassing a vast record collection, Wisdom joined CBC Radio in 1977. He created and hosted the programs Club Deluxe, Listen To The Movies and Radio On, but is best known for his long term programs, RadioSonic, Nightlines, and most recently Pearls of Wisdom.

He has broadcast live from Threadgill's in Austin, Texas, the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto and The Chelsea Hotel in New York, and was arts commentator for CBC broadcasts live from the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. He also produced items in London, England for Vicki Gabereau on three different occasions.

During his tenure with CBC, Wisdom made regular appearances on national programs such as Variety Tonight, Gabereau, The Beat, Coast to Coast, The Great Canadian Goldrush, The Roundup and RealTime, as well as regional programs including The Afternoon Show and Almanac.

He was guest host for shows including Gabereau, After Hours and My Kind of Music and for numerous specials, including the Radio 2 network programming on September 11, 2001. Wisdom has also worked behind the scenes as music programmer for several shows including The Roundup, Sounds Like Canada, Variety Tonight and Gabereau.

In the late 1960s, while living in Vancouver's notorious "Peace House", once a centre for beatnik and hippie gatherings, he began taking slides and showing them at parties, accompanied by the latest treasures from his record collection. These parties developed into the Point Grey Slide Festival, an event held annually for 10 years, involving some of the city's best photographers and artists as well as regular family and holiday pictures by friends. The idea was to tell a story in pictures accompanied by music, and by the later 70s, the event evolved into an elaborate occasion attended by well over 100 invited guests.

During these years the photographic work of The Vancouver School (Ian Wallace, Rodney Graham, Jeff Wall) came to international prominence, but Wisdom devoted himself to another of his passions: music.

In the late 60s he was the singer in "Vancouver's Best Acid Band", The French Hand Laundry, but abandoned performing for travel and university.

In 1979, he joined with Graham, Wall and Wallace, as well as Frankie Ramirez, Kitty Byrne, Danice Macleod and Colin Griffiths in the rock band UJ3RK5. They performed several times and recorded tracks on The Vancouver Complication LP as well as their own EP on the Quintessence and later the Polygram labels. With its cover photographed by Jeff Wall, it is now a collector's item throughout the world.
