SpaceX attempted to land the first stage of the [[Falcon 1#Reusability|Falcon 1 by parachute]], but the stage did not survive atmosphere re-entry. They continued to experiment unsuccessfully with parachutes on the earliest [[Falcon 9]] flights after 2010.
